Youth Tumbling Classes The Park District’s tumbling classes provide age-appropriate instruction for youth aged 3 - 13. Beginners focus on flexibility and coordination, while intermediate tumblers enhance their skills. Celebrate a safe Halloween with fun for the entire family! Hundreds of Jack-o’-lanterns will guide you through the spooky treat stations. Take a ride on the Fright Night Express and the Endangered Species Carousel. Hours are 5:30 - 8 p.m. on October 14, 21 & 27 - 28 and from 3 - 8 p.m. on October 15 - 16, 22 - 23 & 29 - 30. Can’t take a field trip to Scovill Zoo? The Mobile Zoo can bring the animals to your school, event, or organization! Participants will learn hands-on about the animal kingdom with presentations that last approximately thirty minutes for younger students and up to one hour for older students. Schools and organizations can also arrange to take a narrated zoo tour, with age-appropriate descriptions of exhibits and their residents. For more information, call 421-7435.
Zoo Buddies Classes Can you waddle like a penguin, howl like a wolf, or run like a cheetah? An exciting animal adventure awaits 3 - 5 year-olds and their adult guests! Activities such as dances at the KC Hall, a dinner club, BINGO, game nights, and movie nights are included on an activities calendar, which can be found on the Park District website: decatur-parks.org. The Park District celebrates 10 years of dance instruction in 2016-2017. Under the direction of Marie Jagger-Taylor, the Park District’s dance program instructs students in the disciplines of ballet, jazz hop, tap, and lyrical! Dance classes culminate with a recital on May 12 & 13. For more information and class placement, contact Marie Jagger-Taylor at 421-6648. Cross Country Twosome Relay Give this relay a try! Two people will make up the relay team, with youth, adult, and parent/child divisions. The XC course is a one-mile loop in Fairview Park. Shoreline Classic Road Race Sunday, September 18, Nelson Park
15 K - 7:30 a.m.; 5 K - 8 a.m.; Tot Trot - 9:15 a.m. In its 27th year, the Shoreline Classic draws nearly 1,200 participants, who run along the shores of beautiful Lake Decatur in a colorful fall setting. MidState Soccer Club High School & Adult Recreational Leagues The MidState recreational soccer leagues are designed for players who prefer casual matches rather than those that are intensely competitive. The high school league consists of JV and varsity divisions, while players aged 18 and older will participate in the adult recreational league. Games are 6 v 6. No games from Nov. 24 - 27. Parks Insider Little Kritters Soccer Little Kritters is a 5-week program specially designed for preschool players. A story book is provided, which highlights 11 animal characters who possess unique soccer skills. MidState Soccer Club coaches help participants learn these soccer skills through fun activities. Parents are encouraged to read the book with their child to help prepare them for each session. Lacrosse Fall Lacrosse Program Boys and girls aged 8 - 15 can continue playing lacrosse this fall! Players will practice one night a week and end the season with an away tournament. Please read this form carefully and be aware that in signing up and participating in this program, you will be expressly assuming the risk and legal liability and waiving and releasing all claims for injuries, damages or loss which you or your minor child/ward might sustain as a result of participating in any and all activities connected with and associated with this program, including transportation services and vehicle operations, when provided. I recognize and acknowledge that there are certain risks of physical injury to participants in this program, and I voluntarily agree to assume the full risk of any and all injuries, damages or loss, regardless of severity, that my minor child/ward or I may sustain as a result of said participation. I further agree to waive and relinquish all claims I or my minor child/ward may have (or accrue to me or my child/ward) as a result of participating in this program against the Decatur Park District, including its officials, agents, volunteers and employees (hereinafter collectively referred as “Decatur Park District”). Photo Disclaimer: I understand that my child/ward or I may be photographed or videotaped while participating in a Decatur Park District program. I give permission for photos and videotapes of my child/ward or me to be used to promote the Park District. Such photos and videotapes will remain the property of the Decatur Park District. I do hereby fully release and forever discharge the Decatur Park District from any and all claims for injuries, damages, or loss that my minor child/ward or I may have or which may accrue to me or my minor child/ward and arising out of, connected with, or in any way associated with this program/activity.
