Please know our Covid-19 webpage will be amended as policy updates are made and ticket holders will be notified of any changes right away. SOPAC is guided by CDC guidelines and the state of New Jersey for our policies in preventing the spread of COVID-19 and protecting the health of our audiences, staff, volunteers, artists and their production teams.

As of September 1, 2021, all SOPAC patrons must be fully vaccinated with an FDA or WHO authorized vaccine, and must show proof of vaccination along with Government ID to enter. If a patron is not vaccinated, they must provide proof of a negative COVID-19 PCR test taken within 72 hours of the performance start time. All patrons are required to wear masks at all times while inside the venue. This includes children older than 2 who have not been vaccinated.

a message from the executive director Dear Friends, We are excited to be presenting Nefesh Mountain tonight in this very special Hanukkah concert. We thank our new friends at Temple Sharey-Tefilo Israel, Executive Director Beth Blackman and Cantor Rebecca Moses, for generously hosting this event while our theater is being repaired from the damage sustained when Hurricane Ida came to town. There is definitely a silver lining to all this as we have met so many warm and generous people who reached out to help. We are very grateful for these new friendships. Nefesh Mountain is a unique group that combines bluegrass and folk songs with traditional Jewish songs. Together with their band, this husband-and-wife team give a voice to Jewish-American culture. Nefesh Mountain melds elements of Americana, Appalachian Bluegrass, Celtic Folk and Jewish music. The Hanukkah Holiday Concert

SOPAC Presents Nefesh Mountain

at Temple Sharey Tefilo-Israel, South Orange Thursday, December 2 at 7:30PM

Nefesh Mountain has been hailed as a boundary pushing Bluegrass Americana band. They’re among the first to give voice and openly represent Jewish-American culture, traditions, values and spirituality in the world of American Roots music. “Nefesh Mountain preaches peace, understanding, and acceptance with musical muscle,” says Rolling Stone magazine. Appropriately, Nefesh is Hebrew for “soul.” Fronted by married couple Doni Zasloff (formerly of Mama Doni) and Eric Lindberg, their latest music is deeply influenced by a 2018 trip to Eastern Europe. “We tracked down the towns where our families are from, and it was devastating to see the destruction of the Holocaust firsthand, and to know that we’re not so far removed from that time,” says Lindberg. Their latest studio album release, Songs For the Sparrows, is a testament to the unbridled imagination and extraordinary grace of their musicianship and creativity. Their song “Big Mountain” entered Bluegrass Today’s Grassicana chart at #1. The album debuted on Billboard’s Bluegrass chart at #6 and stayed in the top 10 for two weeks. Creators and band leaders Zasloff and Lindberg are the heart of this eclectic offering, alongside longtime bandmate and fiddle player Alan Grubner, David Goldenberg on mandolin and Sam Weber on bass. This quintet is adept with a string virtuosity that is reflected in their arrangements of modern Folk/Bluegrass, combined with songs of the heart and a sense of oneness and purpose that inspires all of their work. The band has been called “a master class in String music!” (Rolling Stone), “arguably some of the best Bluegrass ever made!” (American Songwriter), “infectious, exuberant, and infused with pure melodic prowess” (Bluegrass Today), “crisp, clear, and magical” (No Depression) and “refined, timeless Bluegrass” (The Bluegrass Situation). They have recorded and shared the stage with Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Bryan Sutton, Tony Trischka, David Grier, Mike Gordon (Phish), Mark Schatz, John Doyle, and Mike McGoldrick, among others. Zasloff and Lindberg live in Montclair with their three children. This summer, they welcomed a daughter, Willow. Zasloff studied at NYU’s Tisch School of the Arts and Lindberg attended Rutgers University’s Mason Gross School of the Arts. 13
