DEAR COLLEAGUES I have strong belief in DeepOcean being one of the survivors in our industry. We have a good track record with a strength of finding innovate and improved solutions for our clients problems, and I’m confident that we will continue to do so.
The oil and gas industry has always been and is likely to continue to be a cyclic industry. There are periods with enormous growth followed by periods with cut backs. In growth periods like the one we have had over recent years, additional cost is added without necessarily bringing increased yield or operational efficiency. It has over the last year become more and more evident that the oil and gas industry will have to align on a lower cost basis with more standardization and lower costs. The downturn in the industry has over the last months grown to proportions that wasn’t on anyone’s mind a year ago. All the oil majors are hunting for lower costs, higher efficiency and more favorable returns. In this hunt they are postponing and redesigning projects to reduce capital expenditure. At the same time they are cutting back their operating expenses. The effect on the suppliers delivering services to the oil majors is evident. In challenging times the competition is fierce as everyone tries to get the upper hand in the competition for the few contracts. Contracts won in current market are often at extremely low margins. This situation doesn’t allow much margin for error in performance. DeepOcean has had and will continue to focus on a sound financial balance sheet. But this doesn’t mean that we will get through this difficult period without being influenced by the general situation in the market. The impact on us will depend on how well we are able to adjust to the changed market place. Companies that survive in times like this are the ones that focus on their client needs and deliver according to their Clients’ expectations.
This means quality products, delivered on time for a favourable price. To be successful we need to be productive and innovative to be able to reinvent our success every day. DeepOcean will, as other players in the oil and gas industry, need to adapt to the challenging market situation. It is time to look at what can be done to meet the situation. This includes both optimization of the organization and our systems and routines so they effectively support our business objectives. A reorganization of the company into GNS and INT to set efficient focus on existing and emerging markets. We are in the middle of a process of integrating our systems into one common management system and at the same time we put new collaboration tools in place for efficient sharing of information, document management, Quality and HSE. The integration process for a common management system has triggered a lot of work with respect to aligning the procedures to be used going forward. Different procedures have been a barrier against collaboration across units and regions. We are now removing this barrier aiming at continued delivery of quality services to our customers in a safe and efficient manner. The process will culminate with the issue of one common certification covering the whole business in February 2016. I have strong belief in DeepOcean being one of the survivors in our industry. We have a good track record with a strength of finding innovative and improved solutions for our clients problems, and I’m confident that we will continue to do so. Business success and failure has in both good and bad times been created by the people in the company. What in my opinion, characterizes a typical DeepOcean employee is that
they are dedicated, flexible persons with a competitive mind set. We go the extra mile, adapt to changes and aim for success. This dedicated and focused fighting team spirit is key to continued success. Who else in the world display the same characteristics? If you look at world champion athletes, entrepreneurs, successful business people and politicians there is a common success factor which can be summarized on one sentence; Focus on the future you want, not on the future you fear! It won´t come easy and extra efforts will be required from all of us. Stay focused, be safe, be survivors!

HSE PERFORMANCE Our HSE performance in 2014 was not reflecting all the good focus in the company. However it clearly showed that even the smallest injury that isn’t handled well may easily make the curves turn in an unfavorable direction.
Our performance by end of May is promising and well ahead of last year. The 3 injuries we have had in 2015 are all directly linked to personal behaviour and unsafe work practice by the individuals not following policies and procedures. The injuries could have all be avoided with the intervention of colleagues nearby. This highlights the need for all of us to have the courage to intervene and stop unsafe practices. The focus on safe work practices and looking out for each other are key elements in obtaining an incident free work environment. Keeping focused on executing our jobs safely and work on our behavior through the ‘ACT for Safety’ program is even more important in times when the industry gets rough. Safe and efficient job performance is key to be an attractive supplier to our clients. Annual DeepOcean Time Out for Safety On June 18th we carried out our annual Time Out for Safety. All DeepOcean locations and vessels stopped operations for one hour to focus on safety and perform a hazard hunt in our work environments. From the number for SOC cards submitted

ONE TEAM, ONE GOAL ONE MANAGEMENT SYSTEM MANAGEMENT SYSTEM INTEGRATION PROCESS - WHY DO WE DO THIS? As part of the reorganisation of the company a Management System Integration Project has been kicked off. The goal is to have one management system for the organization with one external accreditation to ISO Standards. Currently we have two independent management systems and associated procedures and documents running in in the organization, accompanied by two independent accreditations with DNV. This is both cumbersome, costly and inefficient. The future success of DeepOcean depend on effective and efficient business execution across the organization. To achieve this we need to work according to the same set of procedures so that we can cross-utilize resources between locations. Having common systems is imperative for the success of the business going forward and this is one of the first steps on that route.
The Management System Integration Project started in April 2015. Anna Kari Rasmussen and Claire Binns have been assigned the responsibility for this important project. They are supported by a project steering group consisting of Mads Bårdsen, Ottar Mæland and John Marius Trøen, who will ensure that the project get the required support from the various work locations and departments. The initial goal and first phase of the project is to establish a common platform by integrating our current procedures. The project has got a short timeframe to achieve the initial alignment of procedures. Once this is in place we can start the alignment of local/regional procedures with the new integrated Management System. The long-term aim is to deliver an improved Management System which can be developed in accordance with the needs of our operations.

DEEPOCEAN GHANA LIMITED Ghana, officially called the Republic of Ghana, is a sovereign multinational state and unitary presidential constitutional democracy, located along the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean, in the subregion of West Africa. Spanning land mass of 238,535 km2, Ghana is bordered by the Ivory Coast in the west, Burkina Faso in the north, Togo in the east and the Gulf of Guinea and Atlantic Ocean in the south. The word Ghana means “Warrior King” in Mande.
DeepOcean has since February 2015 performed subsea services to operator Tullow Ghana Limited offshore Ghana. The Rem Forza is our dedicated vessel for the work and operations are supported by a combination of our newly established Ghanaian team and DO’s international Resources. Ghana has a population of approximately 27 million, from a variety of ethnic and religious groups. Its varied geography includes savannas, forests, springs, cave systems, mountains, estuaries, and nature reserves. Ghana’s 560 kilometres (350 miles) coast is dotted by culturally significant castles, forts, and harbours. In 1957, it became the first African nation to declare independence from European colonization. This made the country a symbol of black achievement and an inspiration for African independence movements. It also had a major influence on Pan-Africanism and the Black Pride movements in the United States of America. To/From Ghana British Airways flies daily from London Heathrow and KLM flies daily from Schiphol, Amsterdam. Lufthansa and Alitalia maintain daily direct flights from Frankfurt and Milan respectively, with a short stop in Lagos, Nigeria. Emirates flies daily non-stop from Dubai in the Middle East (with connections to Asia and the Far East). All International flights are through Kotoka International airport at Accra (ACC) which is central and within a short distance by car of the destinations relating to DOGL’s activities in Accra. The airport is small and the queues
can be long. The traffic to/from the airport can be heavy so leave adequate time to travel and check in. Flight time between Europe and Ghana is 6-1/2hrs. The port where Rem Forza is doing her mobilization and demobilization is situated in Takoradi. Travel between Accra and Takoradi is by a 30 minute air flight. It is also possible to drive in day time and this takes about 4 hours. Deepocean Ghana Limited (DOGL) DOGL is a Joint venture company between Amaja Oilfield Services and Deepocean BV. DOGL has two local employees in the office in Takoradi and one expat in the office in Accra where Tullow has their main office. The employees in Takoradi at present are one Logistic Coordinator and one Accountant. Tullow and Amaja’s offices are located in the Airport residential area of Accra and within 20 minutes’ drive of each other, of the airport and of western style hotel accommodation although durations are dependent on the volume of traffic at the time with morning and evening rush hours being particularly heavy. The present DOGL has a contract with Tullow Oil at the Jubilee and Ten fields offshore the Gulf of Guinea. The contract started in February and is firm for 6 month and has 4 options lasting 3 month each. The work being performed is installation of X-mas trees, Jumper installation, different subsea service and some light survey. RF is set up with two ROV system but mainly operation only one and manning up for number two only for
special operations. RF is performing well and the Client is in general satisfied with our work performed so far. Social Life in Ghana On the vessel we have a mix of Ghanaians crew, Norwegian, English, Filipinos along with other nationalities. The regulation in Ghana requires local content in the operating companies. This requires special attention from all the crew to be able to have a good relationship and to operate together as one team, ensuring that the operation is being safety performed. The social life in Accra is quite different from Haugesund and more crowded than Karmsundsgata but very interesting. You will see most of the people having an open mind and the jokes and laughter is rousing. On the roads you can buy almost everything you can think of, and the cost of living you think would be much lower than Europe is already on par due to the fast growing economy in the country. There is also quite a big difference in the standard of living
TECHNOLOGY INTRO
between the poor and the rich people and this is making a big impression on us. Electricity is the big challenge here in Ghana and sometimes we see the electricity going down for 5-6 times a day, and some area will be without electricity for days. The infra structure for phones and internet is also not of the standard we are used to in Europe.
But all these challenges also has its charm. So to all back in Europe have a nice summer vacation. Regards Deepocean Ghana Ltd. Present temperature of 27 degrees Celsius.

DELOITTE DUTCH OIL & GAS CONFERENCE - 29 JUNE 2015 Bart participated as one of the five guest speakers at the 13th Dutch Oil & Gas conference in Rotterdam organized by Deloitte. The theme of the conference was “Oil Price Response. The event was attended by approximately 400 visitors. The oil industry is a global market and regions with higher cost will have to reduce cost in order to remain competitive with lower cost regions. Offshore is one of the more expensive regions. Bart stressed the importance of a healthy supply chain and the need for structural changes such as (i) improved collaboration and balanced sharing of risk between producers and contractors, (ii) change of work practices, (iii) innovation and (iv) standardization, in order to reduce the cost of offshore oil & gas exploration, development and production.
EXHIBITIONS AND CONFERENCES 2015 DeepOcean has been and will be present at various exhibitons and conferences in 2015 Underwater Technology Conference Bergen 16-18 June 2015 Offshore Europe Aberdeen AECC 8-11 September 2015.

“Some 80% of your life is spent working. You want to have fun at home; why DEEPOCEAN shouldn’t you have 25TH OF JUNE fun at work?” Richard Branson
Trond Amundsen, Founder and Director of Amundsen Special
After some hectic brainstorming, and kick off by the committee existing of Kristine Frette, Lene Tørresdal Enerstvedt, Liv Auestad and Hilde Solberg, we all wished a group of women colleagues welcome to Ladies Night at DO canteen Thursday 25th of June. Last time a similar event took place was in 2012 when moving into our new offices here in Haugesund. Former committee arranged a wonderful Ladies night, and now it was finally time to pick up this event!
We started with an interesting presentation of Trond Amundsen founder and director of Amundsen Special www.amundsenspesial.no Trond Amundsen held a very honest presentation, starting off with 2 people 7-8 years ago, and the possibility to take over an out dated business. Trond Amundesen and his wife have managed to create a blooming business with 23 employees and having a turnover of NOK 28mill last year. Furthermore we had a presentation of FKH Master trainer, Jostein Grindhaug, and physical trainer, Kjell Sture Jensen. www.fkh.no
We all had a joyful evening with a good laugh among interesting subjects presented, while we enjoyed tapas. Jostein Grindhaug, was very clear and direct in his appearance. He briefly presented subjects as motivation, handle difficuties and changes both life in general and work related. How to be a good leader and different leader culture, and how to handle stress and take out the best and proform under pressure. Besides of that we were also motivated to be spot on to reach personal training and business goals!

DO ENGINEERS REWARDED To ensure that our teams are at the forefront, we have invested significantly in assisting our engineers in the UK achieving formally recognised professional status.
The continuous development of our people is essential as our company evolves. Due to the fast paced nature of our industry, it is vital that our teams keep up to date with the latest technologies, innovations and best practice within Engineering. Over the last 6 months, our UK team has been working closely with two professional engineering bodies, the Institute of Mechanical Engineering (IMechE) and the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) to ensure our development programmes and activities recognised externally, along with recognizing our talented individuals formally. The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE) and the Institute of Civil Engineers (ICE) are both internationally recognised professional engineering institutes with 111,000 members in more than 140 countries and 80,000 members in more than 150 countries respectively, so our engineers join a group of elite global professionals. During the first quarter of 2015, we are proud to say that 5 more of our engineers
Author: Katie Johnson, HR Manager, UK
have been accredited to Chartered status within IMechE. The award follows the submission of a 5000 word report outlining their experiences as well as facing an interview panel of professionally qualified engineers. These Engineers were recognised at the Regional IMechE dinner, where they were given their awards. Conrad Guyatt, Engineering Manager commented “It was fantastic to see all the hard work and efforts of our engineers be rewarded. It is not an easy process for even the most experienced engineer, and we are incredibly proud of our people. Being a Chartered professional gives our people formal recognition of their achievements within the profession. The background of our Engineers prior to 2013 focused primarily on Mechanical Engineering, however it was recognised that there was a growing number of civil engineers who had the transferable skills and were able to be successful in our industry. We have worked incredibly close to ICE over the last 12 months and with a great amount of support from Stuart Keeble and Hayley
Edmondson, we are pleased to confirm that our development scheme has been recognised as a formal training scheme, with an external audit taking place within the next 6 months for the final seal of approval.. The investment in continuous development not only supports our Graduate Engineers, but also supports the development of our more experienced engineers who wish to achieve chartered status with the body. Finally, it is not only our HR Department and Line Managers who have a responsibility for the development of our people; we are all equally responsible for our own. If you have any ideas or suggestions on workshops which can be delivered internally to share our knowledge and expertise or you have details of seminars delivered by your professional institution, please contact your local HR representative.

17TH MAY ROWING CHAMPIONSHIPS The Norwegian Constitution Day, also known as Norway’s National Day, is celebrated every year on 17th May and is one of the most popular public holidays in the calendar. Norwegians refer to the day simply as ‘syttende mai’, and is a byword for celebration, parades, cakes and a whole host of fun-filled activities.
Haugesund is also synonymous with rowing; a tradition held since 1888 in which classical wooden life rafts are used to compete against each other. The race, starting at a shockingly early 08:15, is a head-to-head rowing competition, with a total of 20 teams taking part. The teams are made up of a crew of seven covering a total distance of 3 nautical miles. Most Norwegians start their ‘syttende mai’ celebrations by wolfing down champagne
and caviar. Not these guys though. The DeepOcean Rowing Team could not afford a single missed stroke when competing against the furious winds, icebergs and fierce competitors. The Rowing Team was established on Monday 11th May and a one-hour training session lead by the Hydrodynamics Team Leader was planned for the following day. Topics such as the net uplift, drag coefficient and potential sabotage tactics were
discussed over a pint during the training. The following plan was developed as a result of this lengthy discussion: ‘Start Row - Turn - Row Faster’. Bearing in mind the time and cost allowed for the planning phase of this event, it was not difficult to gain unanimous approval from all those involved. Race day arrived and the storm was gaining momentum, with gusts of up to 40kt. Perfectly normal conditions for

Haugesund really. DeepOcean was pitted against the team ‘Trygdesnylterane’ (social security scroungers), known for their strong morale, large biceps and huge appetites for life. The DeepOcean team comprised an exciting blend of individuals from various departments, sailing under the motto ‘One Team’. The three members from the Surveying Department had already pre-surveyed their own members for the strongest hands, which
Author: Espen Nordahl, Lead Engineer
proved to be rather beneficial to the team. The management representative could happily lean back and monitor the progress in which no blood was spilt and overruns and variations had been avoided. The Tender Manager missed the day of practice (very much a ‘business before pleasure’ kind of guy), but managed, however, to raise his game and help DeepOcean to finish in style, lead by the guiding voice of the notoriously late cox.
The 3rd place certainly leaves room for improvement but, but all in all; the rowing team has earned the right to walk among the people of Haugesund with their heads held high. Perhaps next year we can enter teams in both the men’s, women’s and mixed classes.
