Northern Suburban Special Recreation Association (NSSRA) provides and facilitates year-round recreation and leisure opportunities for children, teens and adults with disabilities who live in 13 northern suburban communities including

Deerfield.

Serving approximately 1,800 individuals with disabilities, NSSRA participants range in age from preschoolers, youth and teens through young adults, adults and seniors. NSSRA has nearly 500 recreation, sport, cultural and social offerings available throughout the year, creating new experiences, opportunities for skill development, leisure time, and most importantly, friendship.

NSSRA’s Inclusion support option provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy full participation in partner agency programs while receiving the individualized one-on-one support they need to succeed. Through its programs and services,

NSSRA removes the barriers that might prevent an individual with disabilities from full participation in the fun and richness of experience that life has to offer.

COHO is a sponsored organization of the Deerfield Park District and an affiliated organization of the Park District of Highland Park. Our mission is to provide coaches, facilities, and support for increased proficiency in competitive amateur swimming; to encourage and develop sound swimming skills, to develop good sportsmanship, individual integrity and a supportive and positive team atmosphere. AYSO (Area Youth Soccer Association) was established in the Los Angeles area in 1964 with nine teams. Today, AYSO is a national organization with 50,000 teams and over 500,000 players. AYSO works because of dedicated volunteers committed to the six AYSO Philosophies: Everyone Plays® Our program’s goal is for kids to play soccer so we mandate that every player on every team must play at least 50 percent of every game. It’s no fun to spend the game on the bench... and that’s no way to learn soccer! Balanced Teams Each year we form new teams as evenly balanced as possible because it’s more fun and a better learning experience when teams of similar ability play. It allows for each player to gain the experience of a wide variety of teammates of different skill levels. Open Registration Our program is open to all children who want to register and play soccer. Interest and enthusiasm are the only criteria for playing. There are no elimination try-outs and nobody gets cut. Positive Coaching Encouragement of player effort provides for greater enjoyment for the players and leads to better-skilled and better-motivated players. A coach can be one of the most influential people in a child’s life, so AYSO requires they create a positive experience for every boy and girl. YOUNG WARRIORS YOUTH FOOTBALL Young Warriors tackle football program for grades 4-8 concentrates on football basics, with emphasis on instruction and fundamentals. Practice begins in August reduced to three evenings a week until the end of the season. Games will be played on Sundays at Deerfield High School and on the fields of other league members. (This is a traveling league; half the games are played at opponents’ fields in September and October.) Teams will be formed based on players’ grade and weight. All participants must have a completed medical history form signed by a licensed physician. The Young Warriors program will furnish helmets, shoulder pads and jerseys. Other equipment is the responsibility of the player. There will be state-certified trainers onsite during all games. The Young Warriors organization is a member of the Central Suburban Youth Football Association which includes Northbrook, Glenview, Wilmette, Evanston, Winnetka, Morton Grove, Kenilworth, Vernon Hills, Lake Forest and Highland Park. Young Warriors is a not for profit and all volunteer organization. Registration is held in May at the Young Warrior Football Association building behind Caruso Middle School. We strive to create a positive environment based on mutual respect rather than a win-at-all-costs attitude, and our program is designed to instill good sportsmanship in every facet of AYSO. Player Development We believe that all players should be able to develop their soccer skills and knowledge to the best of their abilities, both individually and as members of a team, in order to maximize their enjoyment of the game.

AYSO EXTRA

The AYSO EXTRA Program is designed to provide a more challenging level of play for those players who possess the appropriate interest, skills and abilities and to enhance each player’s experience and individual growth through the game of soccer while retaining the spirit and organization of AYSO. The goal of EXTRA is to strengthen AYSO by retaining players and volunteers in additional programs operated under the AYSO philosophies. EXTRA is not designed to overshadow or harm the standard primary program. Players must participate in the standard AYSO primary program to be eligible for the EXTRA program. The EXTRA program involves two additional weekly training sessions, one utilizing professional trainers and one utilizing volunteer team coaches, and one additional, challenging game against other local north suburban EXTRA teams. PEGASUS FC SOCCER Pegasus FC, a nonprofit organization, is one of the largest independent soccer clubs in the northern suburbs. For more than 30 years, Pegasus has provided travel soccer for boys and girls of all ages. Pegasus’s mission is to develop young soccer players and instill in them a love for the game. As a nonprofit and affiliate of the Deerfield Park District, we also seek to build a family and community environment where our players build long-term friendships that will help them both on and off the soccer field. We offer soccer during the fall (August to November), winter (December to March), and spring (April to June) seasons. Our players typically train two to three times per week and have games on the weekends. We also participate in various tournaments throughout the season. Pegasus differentiates itself from other travel soccer programs through its commitment to retaining high-caliber coaches who are devoted to maximizing the potential of our players and teams. We have had a great deal of success in recent years, with many of our teams winning their divisions and also bringing home trophies from tournaments.
