Through play and problem solving, children learn the basic skills necessary to achieve–socially, emotionally, intellectually, physically and creatively. Our well-rounded curriculum includes opportunities in math, science and nature, literacy, language and listening, dramatic play and daily outdoor play.

We welcome two and a half, three and four year old children as they embark on a lifetime of learning through discovery and exploration. Children need to be potty-trained.

DISCOVERY CLUB - REGISTER IN JANUARY FOR 2023-2024!
Blast into space, dig with dinosaurs, or take a peek inside the human body! Children will take an indepth, interactive and scientific exploration into new and exciting topics. Each afternoon the children will experience art, literature, science and fun as they embark on a journey of discovery without ever leaving school! Discovery Club complements the Deerfield Preschool curriculum. Please send a lunch, an afternoon snack and a water bottle. This program is open to Deerfield Preschool 2023-2024 Pre-K students only. If space remains, we reserve the right to release open spots to Pre-K students from other schools. This program includes the tuition for an 11:15A-12:30P enrichment where the children will eat lunch then participate in a specialized class. Children will be escorted to and from the enrichment by park district staff. Discovery Club will begin the second week of Deerfield Park District Preschool and follow the preschool calendar. Online and walk-in registration for the 2023-2024 school year began January 17, 2023. The first monthly tuition payment is due at the time of registration. The total amount of the first monthly tuition payment is a non-refundable and non-transferable deposit. The remaining tuition may be paid in full at the time of registration or in eight monthly payments beginning July 1, 2023 through February 1, 2024.

Adult & Tot Planting
Parents, childcare providers, or grandparents will enjoy experiencing nature and the environment with their children through stories, songs and simple experiments. Class will be held outside at the JPCC Pavilion unless there are storms and then class will be moved indoors.

Adult-Tot Soccer
Young children develop motor skills while having fun running and kicking. Parents and tots work together in this class, learning the basics of soccer. Dribbling, passing, shooting, and kicking will all be emphasized. A variety of activities will be played each week. Parents or caregiver participation is required.

Parents are an integral part of helping their tots develop basic sports movement and motor skills. Motor skill activities focus on hand/eye and hand/foot coordination. Kindermusik Level 3: Laugh and Learn

Outdoor Adult/Child Pre-K Art
Get ready to get messy! Join instructor Audrey Pam for an outdoor art class where students will create a variety of projects using mixed media. Young artists will discover the world of visual art through exploration and experimentation with clay, paint, collage, and more! Please be sure to dress your child for artmaking! In the event of inclement weather, class will be held in the Kitchen at the Jewett Park Community Center. Registration fee is per child. Adult companions are required to stay for the duration of the class.

Reading Rookies
Give your child the keys to reading success. This enrichment class uses thematic fun, multi-sensory instruction, games, crafts and stories to teach children in their last year of preschool how to build their letter and sound knowledge. Each weekly lesson focuses on 2-3 letters. The lessons will ignite your child’s reading interest, while improving your child’s ability to hear, identify and manipulate individual sounds. By the end of the session, your child will have the building blocks to become a successful reader. Because Reading Rookies is built around multi-sensory lessons, regardless of your child’s learning style, your child will thrive, have fun and learn! Mixed Media Mondays

Spring Sprouts
Young children will be digging in the dirt while they benefit from fresh air and exposure to nature. This class will explore how flowers and plants grow. The children will plant and nurture a potted plant to take home at the end of the session. Children will learn about gardens, potting plants and feeding the soil through stories, games and hands on activities. There will also be time for playing outdoors and observing nature. This class will be a combination of indoor and outdoor instruction.

Early childhood programs with the Extend the Day Play logo indicate that children in our Preschool can extend their day of learning. You do not have to be enrolled in Deerfield Park District Preschool to attend these classes. These classes are located in the Early Childhood, Theater and Dance sections of this guide.

Each week we will take a journey through the pages of a book then follow-up with theme-related activities. Using a whole-language approach, the children will have access to math, science and open-ended art activities.

Global Comfort Foods and Crafts
Join children’s book author Arianna Brooks for this delicious and dynamic course- a feast for the senses! Each week, your child will experience a new culture and comfort food through songs, crafts, books and cooking. If your child has food allergies, please reach out to the early childhood supervisor to see what accommodations can be made. Section 01 is for children 31/2 -5 and is a drop-off class. S.T.E.A.M. Team

Art for Preschoolers with Lunch
The art room is the best place to relax after a busy day at preschool! This class is the perfect introduction to drawing and painting. Children will improve their fine motor skills and spatial awareness as they practice drawing shapes, preparing them for handwriting while helping them develop creativity, confidence, and a love of art! Safety Town
In Safety Town, children will gain an awareness of safety measures. They will role play “real life” situations and learn how to react. They are trained to distinguish between what is safe and unsafe and will learn what to do when danger exists. Topics include street, bus, playground and house safety; field trip safety; railroad and animal dangers; poisons; strangers; fire safety and how to use the telephone in an emergency. Note: If your child has taken a summer Safety Town or a seasonal session, please do NOT sign up for this session as the material is repetitive.

Preschool Rhythmic Gymnastics
Fall in love with rhythmic gymnastics through creative dance, fun with apparatus, coordination and flexibility exercises that are interwoven with music. Gymnasts may wear leotards or basic dance clothes. All clothing should allow for free movement and should not be overly baggy. Hair should be pulled back from the face and neck.

In our Pre-Karate Safety classes, young children develop flexibility, strength, and coordination in fun, yet disciplined activities. This program is specifically designed for growing minds and bodies to enhance memory and agility. Watch your child’s confidence blossom and their skills improve.

Junior Flag Football
Come join in on the fun and start playing the nation’s most loved game! Players are introduced to stance, receiving, rushing, blocking and defense. Tae Kwon Do
Taekwondo offers benefits for people of all ages and physical abilities to improve concentration and self-esteem, achieve lifelong physical fitness, and learn self-defense skills. Under the direction of Chicago Loves Dance instructors, students will learn cheers as well as poms choreography weekly in this upbeat class. Safe Sitter Clinic
Safe Sitter prepares students in grades 6-8 to be safe when they’re home alone, watching younger siblings, or babysitting. Students learn life-saving skills such as how to rescue someone who is choking, and helpful information like what to do if there is severe weather. The lessons are filled with fun activities and role-playing exercises.

Code Class is our entry-level program for newbie coders. However, we can also accommodate students with previous coding experience. In our introductory Code Class, our Coaches use Scratch to teach kids using our project-based game development curriculum, in a traditional class-like environment. By learning through repetition, students will be able to learn the fundamentals of coding in a fun and engaging way. Battle Robots
Build amazing robots using RoboThink’s STEM program. Asylum Skateboard Private Lessons
Private skateboarding lessons at the Deerfield Park District skatepark are available from the Asylum Skatepark. The instructors are ISCPD/ SKATZ certified and teach high quality lessons in a sustained and progressive way. This is also a great leadership development program where children learn the fundamentals and safety of skateboarding. Private lessons are available for beginners, intermediate or advanced level skateboarders. 48 hours advanced notice required. Cancellation Policy – if you cancel within 24 hours of your lesson time, you forfeit your fee.
Volleyball Skills Clinic 101
This clinic includes instruction on all major volleyball skills; serving, passing, setting, and attacking. Junior Flag Football
Come join in on the fun and start playing the nation’s most loved game! Players are introduced to stance, receiving, rushing, blocking and defense. Soccer Skills Clinic 101

Self Defense
This class puts your safety first as you learn practical self-defense. Based on traditional Japanese Jujitsu, this course will focus on how to defend yourself from the most common attacks. It will also include traditional sweeps, throws and groundwork. It is designed for both beginners and advanced students alike. Optional testing at the end of the session may lead to rank advancement. Class attire is loose fitting clothing. Gi’s may be purchased but not required.

Jr. Lifeguard
Want to be a future lifeguard someday? In the Jr. Lifeguarding class you will receive instruction in water safety, First Aid & CPR skills, teamwork and other lifeguarding/leadership skills. Students must be able to swim the length of the pool. Students should bring a towel and wear a swimsuit to all classes. If you are 15 years old and successfully complete the class, you could receive a job for the remainder of the summer. Successful completion of the class does not guarantee a job.

Beginning Rhythmic Gymnastics
Calling all Olympic hopefuls! If you like music, dance, tumbling, and creativity, you have to try rhythmic gymnastics. It combines the beauty and artistry of dance with the strength and power of tumbling. Gymnasts perform routines to music using hand apparatus such as ribbons, balls, hoops, ropes and clubs. In the beginner class, girls will learn the basic body positions, elementary apparatus handling and musicality. Gymnasts may wear leotards or basic dance clothes. Hair should be pulled back from the face and neck.
Cheer/Poms
Under the direction of Chicago Loves Dance instructors, students will learn cheers as well as poms choreography weekly in this upbeat class. They will learn 3-4 new cheers weekly, work on form, as well as add on to their poms dance routine. The last day of the class will be a parent watch day where they will do a short performance.

We can help you shape your own recreation “pod” experience with your friends.
