Developmental Program

Our Developmental Program (Minnows and Sharks) is designed to bridge the gap between swim lessons and competitive swimming. This program focuses on introductory concepts in streamlining, posture, line, balance, breathing, and improving body awareness in the water. Emphasis is placed on learning basic competitive skills, developing positive self-esteem, making friends, and having fun!

Additional Fees

The Deerfield Park District Program fee includes a COHO Club Fee payment of $30.00 per swimmer, which covers dual meet entry fees for swimmers, a team t-shirt and swim cap. New this spring, fees for all other meets will be billed directly through family Team Unify accounts. Since COHO is a USA Swimming chartered club, new swimmers must become members of USA Swimming. This requires an $85.00 annual membership payment directly to USA Swimming. Once you have registered for COHO you will be sent a link and instructions to complete this step. Note: Masters do not pay the COHO Club Fee or the USA Swimming membership fee.

Residency Note

All District 109, 112 & 113 Residents are considered “residents” for the COHO program.

Age Group Program

Within our Age Group Program, we offer 3 levels for swimmers ages 10 and under and 3 levels for swimmers ages 11 and over. Within both age groups these levels are White, Blue and Red. In the White levels, swimmers will learn the technical aspects of all four of the competitive strokes, be introduced to training concepts, and develop skills needed for competition. In the more advanced Blue and Red levels, swimmers will build upon elements previously learned; continuing to improve technique, expanding on knowledge of training concepts, and refining skills for competition. Some Friday & Saturday practices will be offered, and the schedule will be posted on our website.

There are 2 groups within the Senior Program (Silver & Gold) and swimmers must adhere to the practice standards and schedule for their assigned group. Both groups will have in-water and dryland workouts, and swimmer progression will be a major theme. Technical skills, race strategy, goal setting, time management and mental and physical health will be targeted lessons throughout each season.

Please refer to the COHO website for the standards and requirements for each group. Head Senior Coach has final say on group placements.

• Silver is designed to incorporate the training needs of all high school and pre-high school swimmers preparing to swim in high school or wanting to stay fit in the water.

• Gold is our highest training level and with that comes standards and requirements to be invited into the group. Gold swimmers will practice advanced stroke mechanics and race strategy to prepare them for the highest competitive levels of the sport.
