NORTHERN SUBURBAN SPECIAL RECREATION ASSOCIATION (NSSRA)

provides and facilitates year-round recreation and leisure opportunities for children, teens and adults with disabilities who live in 13 northern suburban communities including Deerfield.

Serving approximately 1,800 individuals with disabilities, NSSRA participants range in age from preschoolers, youth and teens through young adults, adults and seniors. NSSRA has nearly 500 recreation, spor t, cultural and social offerings available throughout the year, creating new experiences, opportunities for skill development, leisure time, and most importantly, friendship.

NSSRA’s Inclusion support option provides individuals with disabilities the opportunity to enjoy full participation in partner agency programs while receiving the individualized one-on-one support they need to succeed. Through its programs and services, NSSRA removes the barriers that might prevent an individual with disabilities from full participation in the fun and richness of experience that life has to offer. For information on Inclusion services or to make arrangements for accommodation, contact Deerfield’s NSSRA Inclusion Liaison, Laura McCarty, at 847-572-2615 or laura@deerfieldparks.org or visit nssra.org

Counselors-in-Training (C.I.T.)

1/10

This program provides an opportunity for teens to develop leadership skills through a summer camp experience. Duties will include assisting with games, art projects, and leading an activity of his/her choice. C.I.T.s will be contacted in April to determine their camp and site preferences. Every effort will be made to place C.I.T.s at their preferred site, however, this can’t be guaranteed. Mandatory all-staff training takes place the week of June 12. Transportation is the responsibility of the C.I.T.
