Improv for Seniors by Seniors
Programs Film Series Class with Reid Schultz A New Hollywood: American Films of the 1960s In the late 1960s and early 1970s a new generation of young filmmakers came to prominence. They spoke for a generation of Americans disillusioned by the Vietnam War, the assassinations of beloved and political figures, disenchanted by the ruling elite, and less willing to conform to societal norms than their parents. Together with the directors came a brilliant generation of actors and actresses who brought to the screen a new level of gritty intensity and contemporary relevance. While their ambition was to overturn the system and create a new and daring world in its place did not last, they did succeed in producing a body of work now considered the Golden Age in American Cinema and, influential still to this day. Each class contains a lecture and viewing of a fulllength film. Reid will also lead a discussion on the previewed film for further analysis. A total of six fulllength feature films will be presented and include the following titles: “The Graduate”, “Bonnie and Clyde”, “Rosemary’s Baby”, “Petulia”, “Easy Rider” and “Medium Cool”. Drury Lane Theatre presents: “White Christmas” This trip is being offered by the PTC and involves minimal walking.
Get into the Holiday spirit with the PTC as we return to Drury Lane for a great lunch followed by another wellproduced and stylish theatre matinee! Everybody will love Drury Lane’s heart-warming musical adaptation of “White Christmas” from the beloved, timeless film of the same name. Veterans Bob Wallace and Phil Davis have a successful song-and-dance act after World War II. With romance in mind, the two follow a duo of beautiful singing sisters en route to their Christmas show at a Vermont Lodge, which just happens to be owned by Bob and Phil’s former army commander. The dazzling score features seventeen Irving Berlin songs including Blue Skies, I Love a Piano, How Deep is the Ocean and the perennial favorite, White Christmas. Known as one of the most captivating musical shows of our time, Bye Bye Birdie tells the story of a rock and roll singer who is about to be inducted into the army. The singer, Conrad Birdie, an Elvis Presley type, has a pompadour and thick sideburns; he wears gaudy gold costumes and speaks in a rugged voice. Albert Peterson, his agent, is a very pleasant mild mannered young man. Albert’s faithful secretary, Rose Alvarez keeps him and Birdie moving forward in the world. Rosie concocts one final national publicity stunt before Conrad’s induction. Conrad will bid a typical American teenage girl goodbye with an all-American kiss. Kim MacAfee in Sweet Apple, wins the honor. All of the phones in her town are already busy as Kim has just pinned Hugo, a local boy. Bye Bye Birdie is a satire done with the fondest affection. It is the tops in imagination and frivolity! Date: Thursday, February 18th Time: 10:30pm Departure / Return 5:00 pm Fees: $85M/$95NM Registrations: (21) #213250-02 Register by: Friday, January 22nd

Medicare Open Enrollment October 15-December 7 “SHIP Is Here To Help!” Everyone with a Part D Plan should re-evaluate it to see if it will be the best plan for you in 2016. “Don’t feel program loyalty,” advises Sandy Leith, Director of the Illinois Department on Aging’s SHIP Program. It’s important to investigate which plan will provide you the best coverage for the best price in the coming year. You can do it on your own by using Medicare’s Drug Plan finder. The online tool is quite amazing, but navigating the site and interpreting the results may be daunting. The PTC SHIP Program is here to help. Call for an appointment with one of our trained volunteer SHIP Medicare Counselors. Don’t delay. Slots always fill up. Last year we assisted nearly one hundred people! When coming to your appointment, please bring your Medicare card, the name of your current plan, and a list of your current medications, including dose and frequency. Open Enrollment ends December 7. “The Best Choice is an Educated Choice!”

ACES: Caregiver Support Are you caring for your spouse, parent, or other relative? If so, you may feel tired, overwhelmed, stressed, sad, or frustrated. Perhaps you need caregiving tips or leads on resources. Studies show that caregivers reduce stress, have improved health, and provide better care when part of a caregiver support group. The group is not disease specific, it focuses on the caregiver. Join our vital group to meet others in our community who, like you, are caring for an older adult loved one. We meet on the 2nd and 4th Wednesdays of the month at 1pm in the Patty Turner Center Library. Drop in. FREE. For more info call Margie at PTC 847-940-4010. No meeting 11/25, the day before Thanksgiving. Do care obligations keep you from attending our Support Groups? Here’s a solution! Through our treasured partnership with Faith In Action Volunteers, we are able to offer some respite options. On-site supervision of your loved one in our front lobby may be available during the Alzheimer and ACES meetings. Care recipients must be comfortable being apart from their loved one, have appropriate behavior, and be able to use the restroom on their own. Also, on a more limited basis, a trained Faith in Action volunteer may come to your home, if needed, while you attend the ACES meeting. For both services, prescreening and reservations are required. There is never a fee. Please call Margie at PTC for eligibility requirements and more information.
