The Deerfield Park District endeavors to keep its facilities and programs operating whenever possible. There may be times; however, when weather, road conditions or facility malfunctions dictate that programs and/or services must be canceled or temporarily postponed or entire facilities closed. In such cases, Deerfield Park District reserves the right to close a particular facility or cancel a program based on the following criteria: • Whenever an unscheduled closing or cancellation occurs, the park district will make every effort to communicate to patrons via the park district Weather Hotline (847-317-2555), the website deerfieldparks.org, and the metropolitan Chicago Emergency Closing Center website emergencyclosingcenter.com. • Local School Closings: Whenever School District 109 cancels school due to snow related weather conditions, all Deerfield Park District Preschool classes and all programs held at school sites will also be canceled. Closing other park district facilities or canceling classes will be made on a case by case basis. Park district facilities themselves will remain open for nonscheduled activities (e.g. fitness center use, registration, etc.) unless specifically directed to close due to weather conditions. • Facility Specific Conditions: In the event that conditions prompting closing arise at a specific facility (e.g. high winds, power outages, equipment malfunctions, flooding), classes may be canceled or the facility temporarily closed until the condition has been resolved. • ThorGuard Lightning Prediction Systems are installed at all parks, pools and schools in Deerfield. See General Information section for more information. • The following are contact numbers regarding the cancellation of programs due to poor or unsafe weather conditions:

KEEPING YOU SAFE
COVID-19
WHAT WE ARE DOING TO KEEP YOU SAFE
At the Deerfield Park District, the safety of our participants and visitors is our top priority. We have always been committed to providing safe and clean programs and facilities to the community. In accordance with state and local governmental orders, we are taking extra precautions to stay safe and healthy. This includes extensive cleaning protocols and social distancing practices in our facilities.
Masks and Face Coverings ‣ All staff, participants and visitors must wear face masks/coverings while in our facilities and in every class. ‣ For outside activities, participants and visitors can be unmasked when they are able to maintain 6 feet of social distance, except if specific activity guidelines exist.
Social Distancing & Group Sizes ‣ A minimum of 6-ft of social distancing is required at our indoor and outdoor facilities. ‣ Some of our programs have been adjusted by reducing program sizes, altering activities and staggering start times. ‣ Signage at parks and facilities and messaging on our website encourages social distancing at group size and capacity limits.
Hand Washing & Sanitizing ‣ Staff and visitors are recommended to wash hands often with soap and warm water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the restroom, before eating, and after blowing their nose, coughing, or sneezing. ‣ Hands free sanitizer stations are available throughout our facilities.
Cleaning & Common Areas ‣ In addition to regular maintenance, the park district has enhanced cleaning and disinfecting procedures for frequently touched objects and surfaces throughout the day. ‣ Cleaning and disinfecting before and after each class is conducted in compliance with CDC protocols. ‣ Water fountains will remain turned off at this time; we encourage labeled water bottle use.
How You Can Help Keep Yourself & Others Safe ‣ If you are experiencing cold or flu symptoms, have a fever or have been exposed to someone with COVID-19, please stay home and protect other participants, visitors, and staff. ‣ Avoid contact with others that are sick or experiencing COVID-19 like symptoms. ‣ Use proper cough and sneeze etiquette. ‣ Avoid touching your face with unwashed hands. We care about your health. The COVID-19 pandemic is serious. Please be respectful of staff and fellow visitors and understand that our staff are providing the best experience possible given the current limitations. CDC and state government procedures change frequently. We will adapt to those changes as necessary. Summer 2021

BOARD OF COMMISSIONERS Letter from the Executive Director
Board Liaisons and were also part of the wonderful partnerships for the Tracey Beth Rumick and Kenny Rudin playgrounds. We sincerely thank Gil and Greg for their contributions to make the Deerfield Park District a leading and highly recognized agency in the state.
Greetings and best wishes from the park district. This section of the brochure typically has a letter from the Board of Commissioners providing updates on district projects, services and programs. As we will have a new make-up of the park board in late May, I wanted to take this opportunity to offer our thanks to Gil Antokal and Greg Lapin for their years of service as Commissioners and to welcome our two newest Commissioners Debbie Serota and Michael Brown.
We would also like to welcome Debbie Serota and Michael Brown to the Park Board of Commissioners. We look forward to them providing their perspectives and working with the rest of the Park Board as a cohesive board of five commissioners. I would like to take this opportunity to update you on a few projects and services. Similarly to 2020, the district has deferred a number of capital projects for future consideration. We are able however, to look forward to 2 new playground replacement projects this year, (Blumberg Park and South Park east playground). Additionally, we will also begin the renovation of the Deerspring Pool Splashpad this fall and complete the project in 2022 prior to the summer pool season. As we move towards the end of the pandemicera, we all look forward to being able to be permitted to enter Phase 5 of the Restore Illinois Plan. In the interim, we will continue as we have done, to adjust services and programs in accordance with state, county and local guidelines and restrictions.
Gil Antokal served 20 years and Greg Lapin served 12 years on the Park Board of Commissioners. During those tenures, a significant number of projects were completed, and services were provided or enhanced. The list is rather lengthy but their efforts in acquiring and opening the Sachs Recreation Center, the full renovation of Mitchell Pool, numerous playground renovations and developing a Master Plan for Jewett Park enhancements are examples of some projects. Both were instrumental in developing partnerships with the Chicago Sky professional basketball team, with the Northshore Rhythmic Gymnastics Program and most recently with the NovaCare/Rush Physical Therapy group. Gil and Greg helped develop the district’s Strategic Plan and were part of community needs assessments that helped provide guidance on program and service desires for the community. They both also served on Citizen Advisory Committees as

GREAT THINGS ARE HAPPENING IN DEERFIELD! Deerfield Park District’s Mission Statement
The Deerfield Park District strives to serve the Deerfield Community with outstanding parks, services, facilities and recreation programs that enrich lives, promote healthy living and inspire memorable experiences.
Six Strategic Plan Strategies 1. Organizational Excellence 2. Customer Engagement 3. Community Engagement
4. Going Green/Environmental Stewardship 5. Expand & Enhance Parks & Properties 6. Enhance Existing Facilities & Add New Ones Go GREEN
REGIONAL VACCINATION CENTER AT PATTY TURNER CENTER
Go GREEN
Look for these symbols to stay current on Deerfield Park District’s strategic plan.
In March, the Deerfield Park Board unanimously approved a facility use agreement with Primary & Immediate Care Solutions, LLC, d/b/a Doctors Test Centers (DTC), to bring a regional Covid-19 vaccination site to the Patty Turner Center. The approval came after weeks of discussion between the Village of Deerfield, the Deerfield Park District, DTC officials, and the Lake County Health Department to find a suitable vaccination partner and location within the Village. The Lake County Health Department finds DTC qualified to be a mass vaccination provider and they will be eligible to receive weekly vaccination distributions from the County. DTC will use the Lake County AllVax Portal to book appointments for those who are eligible. Lake County Health Department Executive Director Mark Pfister said public-private partnerships like this will be key in the vaccination rollout. “As our vaccine allocation grows, we will need regional partners to help get shots into arms.,” Pfister said. “We are proud of this partnership and look forward to serving the community,” said DTC owner Dr. Jeffrey Weinzweig, MD.
RECYCLE BEYOND THE BAG COMMUNITY CHALLENGE PROGRAM
Go GREEN
Deerfield Park District has partnered with Trex Building supply to help recycle plastic film and bags that are not recycled by most curbside companies (grocery bags, Ziplocs, bread bags, water bottle overwrap, etc.). There is a collection bin inside the downstairs foyer at the Jewett Park Community Center for clean, dry film/plastic. Not all plastic is accepted. A list and a video with more information is available here. Join our recycling team! We have a 6 month collection window and once we recycle 500 pounds of film, a bench will be made for the Park District out of the recycled film! As of April 14,
333 lbs have been collected!
JOHN BLUMBERG PARK RENOVATION Renovation construction began in March with the removal of John Blumberg Park playground equipment by Kids Around the World staff. Kids Around the World is a non-profit organization that removes and transports playground equipment to be reused in poverty-stricken communities. Deerfield Park District has proudly been partnering with Kids Around the World since 2008 and each time a playground is removed, 80% of the play structures are able to be donated. Blumberg Park renovations are now complete. New features include maximized play experience value for Deerfield families to enjoy.

All precautions will be taken, including frequent hand hygiene, wearing facial coverings, health screenings with temperature checks, physical distancing, and restricted access to our classrooms. Temperatures will be taken using a no touch thermometer. Families will complete a health screening daily attesting to the health of and lack of exposure to COVID-19 for their children before entrance to the preschool is granted. Any person with a fever or a failed health screening will not be allowed to enter the classrooms.
CLEANING PROTOCOLS Common areas of the preschool are cleaned hourly. High touch areas in the classroom will be regularly disinfected. Shared toys and other manipulatives will be cleaned after use. Each child will have their own supply box to reduce shared materials.

PRIORITY REGISTRATION FOR DEERFIELD PARK DISTRICT RESIDENTS
People who live within the boundaries of the Deerfield Park District always have first priority in our registration process. However, having a Deerfield address does not always mean that you are a resident of our Park District. Program brochures are typically sent to the 60015 zip code, but this can include areas that are not part of the Deerfield Park District.
Due to the ongoing uncertainty and federal, state and local enforcements, all information in this brochure is subject to change. Thank you for your understanding. Summer 2021
REGISTRATION INFORMATION FINANCIAL ASSISTANCE
Residents experiencing difficulty paying program fees should contact the Park District.
RESIDENT & SPECIAL SCHOOL DISTRICT #109 AND #113 RATES
Resident rates will apply to those who live within the Park District boundaries. If a participant does not live within the park district boundaries but enrolls in a program that is held at a District 109 or 113 school and they reside in that school district, then they pay the resident rate.

Online registration users who have set up an account do not need to show proof of residency again at this time. Proof of residency includes both: • A current residential utility bill (gas, electric, water-no phone bills accepted) with your name stating your mailing address and service address as being the same. • A valid driver’s license or photo-ID containing your current address. Proof of residency needs to be brought in to Jewett Park Community Center, Patty Turner Center, Sachs Recreation Center, or Deerfield Golf Club. We do this to ensure that the registration procedures remain fair. Thank you for your compliance and assistance.
IMPROPER REGISTRATION
Those who register for our programs and improperly use a Deerfield address are removed from the class and no refund or transfer fee is provided. Non-residents pay a higher fee per program. Non-resident fees are shown second in program descriptions. Note: Non-residents are not eligible for resident fees even if their caretaker, provider, or relative resides in Deerfield.
CONTRIBUTIONS TO GRANTS-IN-AID
Voluntary contributions to the Deerfield Park Foundation for our Grants-in-Aid (Scholarship) Fund can be made on the registration form. The fund is used for people who are in serious financial need, to participate in park district programs. The Board of Park Commissioners has a policy that no person will be denied access to recreation programs or facilities because of an inability to pay fees. Please know that the program is strictly confidential and is closely monitored by the Director of Recreation. We appreciate your support.
REFUNDS FOR RECREATION PROGRAMS
A recreation program is defined as a program in which park district personnel teach activities or skills over a period of two or more class meetings. Sports leagues, camps, preschool, After School Club, trips, Sarah Hall Theatre, virtual sewing classes, special events, season passes and one-day classes and workshops are considered special refund categories. • A refund may be obtained two (2) business days prior to the first day of class/program. A 10 percent service charge ($5 minimum; $10 maximum) will be assessed. • If a class is rescheduled, relocated, or changed by the park district, a total refund will be made if requested by the participant. • Refunds will be offered if a class is canceled or closed by the park district. • If a participant is dropped from a program at the request and discretion of the district staff, a refund will be made, less prorated cost of classes held. • In lieu of a refund, participants may transfer money to other currently offered activities. GENERAL INFORMATION MISSION STATEMENT
To provide outstanding parks, services, facilities and recreation programs that enrich lives, promote healthy living and inspire memorable experiences.
PARK DISTRICT PHILOSOPHY
The Park Board recognizes the need to provide and maintain sufficient and attractive parks, open space, recreation facilities and programs to serve equitably, and without prejudice, all the people of the Park District in the provision of leisure time activities. Every opportunity shall be afforded, within financial limits, to plan, procure, develop and maintain park and recreation resources, and to provide leadership for the wholesome and constructive use of leisure time. The provisions of quality recreational services in the most efficient manner, at the least possible cost, and without significantly duplicating the efforts of other agencies, will be emphasized at all times. This includes the development of cooperative agreements with other agencies directly and indirectly involved with leisure services in the District. The provision of recreation, park and conservation services must be considered as a positive opportunity for people of the District to share with each other, to develop leadership capacities, to learn skills for present and future enjoyment, and to emphasize responsibilities to each other as well as to the community.
BE A GOOD NEIGHBOR
Please respect the rights and property of neighbors of our parks. Use public sidewalks/pathways. Drive carefully in lots, driveways and nearby streets. Trees, bushes, fences, etc., should not be used as bathrooms. Keep your dog on a leash, remain on public property, clean up pet waste, and place trash in park receptacles. THORGUARD
GENERAL INFORMATION
ThorGuard Lightning Prediction Systems are installed at all parks, pools and schools in Deerfield, from April through November. Horns are tested the first Tuesday of each of these months, at 10 AM. Should you hear the horn or see the strobe light at other times—or any time lightning seems possible—be sure to seek shelter. The system is meant to warn the public that conditions are right for possible lightning danger. This system is not 100 percent accurate, as it operates on radio waves which are variable. As not every unit will go off simultaneously, the public is asked to please use common sense when conditions appear threatening, even if ThorGuard warnings are not heard or seen.
FOOD ALLERGIES, MEDICATION, ILLNESS
Infectious Diseases: To prevent the spread of communicable diseases, such as strep, pink eye and fifth’s disease, parents should report any diagnosed cases to the Park District office. If exposure to other participants occurred, a notification is sent home. Food Allergies: Many of our preschool, as well as cooking and other classes, will serve food; therefore, it is imperative that you notify the full-time Recreation Supervisor of any food allergies or dietary restrictions your child may have. Medication: If your child requires medication (inhaler, epi-pen, etc.) during class, medication administration forms must be completed. Please call our registration office (847-945-0650) for details.
Follow these warnings for safety: • One prolonged horn blast signifies a strong lightning risk. • The strobe light signals a continuing lightning alert condition. • Three short horn blasts (and ceasing of Illness: Please do not attend class nor strobe light illumination) signal it may send children who are ill to class. be safe to return to the area, but use discretion.
