Liebe Leser*innen, die Aufgaben für Bibliothekar*innen werden zunehmend komplexer. Das anerkannte Standardwerk Praxishandbuch Bibliotheksmanagement (S. 4) erscheint in der zweiten Auflage im Open Access und bietet eine Standortbestimmung sowie einen Überblick des Managements in wissenschaftlichen Bibliotheken. Im Handbuch Bibliothekspädagogik (S. 4) – ebenfalls im Open Access frei verfügbar –werden erstmals Theorie und Praxis umfassend dargestellt. Die beiden Praxishandbücher Inklusion in Bibliotheken (S. 3) und Medien an den Rändern (S. 3) leisten Hilfestellungen, um eine eigene Position zu diesen aktuellen und politischen Themen zu finden. Das gut eingeführte Praxishandbuch IT­Grundlagen für Bibliothekare (S. 3) wurde für die zweite Auflage vollständig überarbeitet.

Bei den Einzeltiteln möchte ich Sie auf die Arbeitsvorgänge in Bibliotheken (S. 4) als das Standardwerk für die Erstellung von Stellenbeschreibungen und Stellenbewertungen hinweisen. Im buchwissenschaftlichen Programm freut uns besonders, dass die renommierte Geschichte des deutschen Buchhandels im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert um den Band 4/1 Kontinuität und Neuanfang 1945 bis 1949 und den Band 5/3 DDR: Verlage 3, Verbreitender Buchhandel und Bibliotheken erweitert wird. Dear readers, Librarians’ tasks are becoming increasingly complex. We are keeping pace with this development with our established handbook program, which is being enriched by a number of new volumes this year. The second edition of our esteemed reference work, the Praxishandbuch Bibliotheksmanagement (Practical Handbook of Library Management; p. 4), is being released in open access, offering an overview of and insights into the current state of management in research libraries. The Handbuch Bibliothekspädagogik (Handbook of Library Pedagogy; p. 4) – now also available in open access – is the first to present the theory and practice of its subject matter in depth.

The two practical handbooks Inklusion in Bibliotheken (Inclusion in Libraries; p. 3) and Medien an den Rändern (Media on the Margins; p. 3) provide guidance on how to take a stance on these topical and political issues, while the well-established Praxishandbuch IT­Grundlagen für Bibliothekare (Practical Handbook of IT Fundamentals for Librarians; p. 3) has been completely revised for its second edition.

This study is the first to analyze all these maps and their codicological and thematic contexts. This edited volume examines the forms and functions of the interaction between hand writing and print culture in the period ca. 1500 to 1800. Parchment or paper? The choice between these two writing materials was available to people in Italy from 1100, to those north of the Alps from the thirteenth century. If we take them by their word, they preferred the traditional animal skin. But in the hands of writers, paper took over on a broad front. This study analyzes the quiet revolution quantitatively and qualitatively, and investigates why it was so silent.

The libraries of Tunis are considered lost since the sack of the city by European armies in 1535. This study reconstructs the original holdings of Tunis’ medieval libraries by bringing together dispersed manuscripts from over 30 library collections worldwide. The outcome is twofold: the book maps the networks of the first European Orientalists and, by doing so, retrieves from oblivion an important piece of North African manuscript culture.

No single library or search engine provides biographical information on so many historical personalities. The World Biographical Information System Online provides a detailed and authentic picture of people’s achievements, feats, curiosities and peculiarities.

From 2017 on direct scanning will improve the quality of the sources. Three tried and tested search options (Basic, Biographical and Bibliographical Search) allow for a simple and precise research in the Online Reference.
