Gerónima Garza attended segregated Welhausen School from grades zero to fourth She is a graduate of Pan American University in Edinburg, Texas, where she specialized in Multicultural Studies and Bilingual Education A pioneer in bilingual education, she taught bilingual/bicultural education where she earned three Teacher of the Year awards Mindful of the lack of children’s books celebrating the Mexican American culture, Garza set out on a path to authorship.
