ABOUT ME PHILOSOPHY STATEMENT

TOUGH MUDDER OFFICE Will Dean and Guy Livingstone founded Tough Mudder in early May, 2010. Tough Mudder was built on a culture of innovation. It started by shattering preconceived notions of fitness, health, and mass participation sporting events, creating a worldwide community. Tough Mudder is engineered so that teamwork isn’t just encouraged—it’s required. TMHQ grew to nearly 150 employees working across three offices world wide. Expansion of Tough Mudder brands included the launch of Tough Mudder 5K, Tougher and Toughest Mudder, and the launch of Tough Mudder Boot camp. With this rapid expansion larger offices were mandatory.

SOLUTION STATEMENT The concept of the bicycle system will be carried out in the office space, highlighting the different subsystems that make a bicycle move. Maintaining the collaborative style of the company with supporting elements such as, comfortable meeting spaces and ample lighting selections. The curvilinear forms in the wheels and the straight lines within the frame of a bicycle system will reinforce the different systems throughout the office. The 2nd and 3rd floors both have a radial shape around the stairs to support collaboration. Creative and collaborative work will be the forward motion of the office system and company. Biophilic elements such as the live wall in reception helps the founders of the company remember where the start of the company and what its grow into today.

GOALS • Maintaining the collaborative style of the company with supporting elements such as, comfortable meeting spaces and sketching tools. • Integrating the most up to date, modern technology as a requirement. • Infusing biophilia and natural light into the private and public offices with small decorative hints of greenery throughout the office. • Creating collaborative spaces outside of the cubicle office.

The 3rd floor work cafe is a space where employees are encouraged to collaborate as a team outside of their private cubicals. It is also a space where employees who work remotely or at home, have a place to set up when they come into the office.

community

The Tough Mudder mission statement encourages teamwork and communication between all systems in the company. Creating a community work cafe was a great tool in supporting that claim.

Another team work, community space that provides a little more privacy for small groups. This furniture incorporates booth seating and privacy panel that help reduce noise from the conference room located behind it.

The third floor perspective demonstrates the spiral staircase in the Tough Mudder office. Located to the left of the stairs is a private gathering space with technology, white boards and other collaborative tools to help employees visualize their ideas.

Although team work is imperative in the Tough Mudder community, individual desks are still a must have. Steelcase sit to stand desk allow for comfortable work places that are grouped by different departments on each floor.

Scapha, latin for airplane... is a unique opportunity for light and flight. This modern pendent fixture has wide appeal in commercial and residential settings. The inspiration for The Scapha Design is an airplane. The core of the plane is represented by the black metal. The wings are defined by the stainless steel accents. The scapha comes to us through the Golden Lighting Design Competition. Students were given three weeks to design from process to a modeled fixture. A unique project for a one of a kind fixture.

traveling kiosk The design of the traveling kiosk is inspired by Cartagena’s color, form and culture. The color yellow creates a sense of happiness and joy. Curvilinear forms mimic the vernacular on the city. Combining culture and new technology users will be able to experience and interact with Cartagena from miles away.

phase 01 Phase one consisted of taking inspiration from the local architectural features, such as the curves and colors and letting the pen go.

phase 02 Phase two is where and space developed permanently. Signage for the will also come into play

form more kiosk soon.

phase 03 Phase three was all about taking inspiration and previous process and turning them into a three dimensional structure.

front elevation This front elevation highlights the curvilinear forms and architectural detailing. Signage is mimicked on the back and front entry.

This unique 3D view shows signage and demonstrates the important fact, that visitors have two entry way options when entering the kiosk.

Visitors of the Kiosk are able to use touch screen monitors to learn more about Cartagena’s culture.

The inspiration for The Box design will take the direction of blurring boundaries. By creating a mixed-use zone, the site sparks engagement of intergenerationalism. Indoor and outdoor spaces will be blended to create a mirrored, divergent reality of differential environments. Variations of geometric forms emphasize natural motifs, while interactive spaces give purpose to an adaptive reuse space. Social, physical and psychological wellness will prosper in a dynamic yet neutral expanse. Intermingling generations within a built environment creates the overall envision of blurring boundaries.

As a feature accent wall in the crossfit gym, pops of color enhance the neutral palette through out the space. Plenty of gym equipment such as, dumbells, squat racks, pull and push machines as well as ellipticals and treadmills are offered in the space.

As you enter The Box you are greeted by reception and a smoothie bar. At reception visitors have the opportunity to learn about the facility and all it has to offer.

Serving as a corridor between all major spaces, the interior courtyard features bright tones and natural elements as skylights shine down on prospering trees and plant life.

perspectives

In the multi-use space, the addition of a work lounge offers an area for those who prefer a quiet, serene space to sit down for coffee, work, or simply relax. Located directly adjacent to the micro-brewery, the beer garden is introduced with an ADA ramp for wheelchair accessibility for all ages to experience the lively outdoor space.

The micro-brewery allows its users to gather in one central area in a fun and jovial atmosphere. Multiple seating arrangements are offered as well as free standing space. A direct view to the additional seating above draws the eye up throughout the space while highlighting the industrial elements the space displays. The micro-brewery is to serve standard bar food and appetizers seeking an American style menu.
