DESIGN THINKING

WASTE REDUX: a semester-long study into the waste produced by the textile industry that culminates in the generation of a conceptual design in response to that research.

CONCEPTUAL DESIGN: To address the over production through fast-fashion, this proposed intervention provides consumers with a greater access to capsule wardrobes. The solution is similar to current department stores, but with a pure focus on capsule wardrobe specialization. This project would partner with pre-existing stores to provide a secluded section of their sales floor to educate and sell

consumers the idea of capsule wardrobes. This section would have everything a consumer needs to start their own collection of essential clothing items. Including, but not limited to, informational brochures, style cards consumer can start their shopping all in one section of the store. All the essential items that the store sells would be in arms reach. However, to further icentize the partnering storefronts, there

would also be call and response advertisements. These advertisements and style cards would direct customers to coordinating clothing items throughout the rest of the store, allowing them to add just a little spice to their new capsule wardrobe. Consumers would then finally experience true satisfaction with their closet, which eventually trickles down to less textile waste.
