Rest In Peace

In August the Music Department ‘packed up shop and hit the road’ on its fifth Annual Music Tour, destination: Bairnsdale. The Tour included the College’s Senior ensembles, the Stage Band, Concert Band, String Ensemble, Guitar Ensemble and the College Choir. The Tour provided De La’s budding musicians the experience to hone their skills whilst playing to a live and enthusiastic audience. The tour schedule was for three performances a day, many of which were to small primary schools, one consisting only 13 students! On the final night of the Tour our students were privileged to be joined on stage by jazz legend, Don Burrows. During the afternoon our College Ensembles worked with Bairnsdale Secondary College music students in a very stimulating and challenging workshop! While the Concert and Stage Bands worked directly with Don, our String Ensemble joined forces with the Bairnsdale students, while our Choir and Guitar Ensemble spent some time perfecting their repertoire for the evening performance. The show gave our students a great opportunity to experience working not only with students from another school, but also one of Australia’s most acclaimed jazz musicians. Hats off to all the musicians for an amazing Tour and their continued dedication to the Music Department. Special thanks go to all the staff who attended, in particular Ms Cindy Frost, whose constant hard work and dedication ensured that this Tour ran smoothly and would not soon be forgotten.
