2020 Annual general Meeting and Elections

As you all are keenly aware, our 2020 Annual General Meeting and Trade Show was cancelled due to the British Columbia Provincial Health Authority’s order to cancel all public events in the province where gatherings of 50 or more people would be in attendance. As you may know, it is still a requirement of the British Columbia Societies ERV PARENT Act that we hold an annual general meeting once per year before the end of the calendar year. As a result, President Rick Delorme called for our 2020 AGM to be held September 25, 2020 via Zoom video conference.

The membership as a group attended virtually. Executive members who attended in person were required to follow strict health and safety procedures for COVID 19 established by the BC Health Authority. Wearing masks, socially distancing, and using appropriate hand washing and sanitizing practices was mandatory. President Delorme called the AGM to order at 9:00am on September 25, 2020.

Standing committee reports and Executive member/Zone reports were submitted to EFMA Executive prior to the meeting and referred to by President Delorme via Zoom.

STORY CONTEST WINNERS FOR 2019/2020!

Elementary Winner $5,000: Palsson Elementary Students at Palsson Elementary set an ambitious goal to use their bottle drive money to fund a 5-month drum lesson program for 3rd grade students. Their efforts resulted in their drumming program being fully funded by deposit refunds! This year, they collected over 9,000 beverage containers. Read the full story on our blog.

High School Winner $5,000: Holy Cross Regional High School The Marketing & Promotions 11 class at Holy Cross Regional High School used their marketing skills to encourage fellow students to recycle and “go green” through their #hcgoesgreen campaign. The campaign was a huge success and they raised over $1,200 by recycling their beverage containers in just six months! Read the full story on our blog.

upcoming Executive members of EFMABC for the 2020/2021 school year. Past President Steve Jackson (virtual attendance) and myself (in attendance) facilitated the elections. Prior to the AGM, all membership received an advisory email giving 30 days notice of the AGM date, time, and venue (Zoom conference). All positions up for election were outlined for the members and requests for nominations from the general membership were to be submitted to EFMA Executive Assistant Molly Shipowich by a determined date. As a result of this process, it was necessary to vote by secret ballot for the position of Director for the two-year term which was completed using Zoom’s anonymous voting ability. The Executive of EFMABC for 2020/2021 was determined and a motion to destroy the electronic ballots was received. Congratulations to all elected officials!!!!!

To put together an AGM and elections program via Zoom for 184 members at a time of unprecedented circumstances was no easy task. A huge thank you and our appreciation goes to our Past President Rick Delorme for his leadership and strength in getting us through this difficult time and holding a successful AGM. n
