Bert Baxter Transport: A business built on quality service

The founder and namesake Mr. Wilbur Baxter, also known as Bert, joined the transportation business in the 1920s with one truck and some big dreams. After establishing roots in Estevan, Saskatchewan, Bert Baxter Transport incorporated in 1957 and established their first location at 301 Kensington Avenue. Over the years, this location has seen many expansions and is in still in operation today.

In 1977, after 50 years of service, the Baxters decided it was time to retire, so they sold the business to two of their employees, Graham Shirley and Elmer Vicary. In 1981, Mr. Vicary sold his shares to Graham’s wife Nancy. Today, the company is operated by Graham and Nancy’s three sons, Vaughn, Darryl, and Todd as they enjoy their well-earned retirement. In October 2011, Graham and Nancy, and their sons received an award from the Saskatchewan Trucking Association for their dedication to the industry.

In 1988, a branch office was opened in Edmonton to facilitate the daily runs from the supply depots in Alberta to oilfields of Southeastern Saskatchewan, Manitoba, and the United States. In 2008, a new and larger modern facility was built in Leduc to further accommodate these services. The privately owned, family-operated company provides general freight services to all Canadian provinces and 43 states, and has a proud history of providing high-quality service to its customers. Bert Baxter Transport places special emphasis on providing service to the oil industry and has many years of experience with transporting and handling oilfield equipment and materials. The company is well-known for providing 24-hour personalized service — and it doesn’t stop there. Oilfield services extend to include loading, unloading, and hauling of all manner of pipe; specialized equipment is available to handle steel and fibreglass products.

With special emphasis on service to the oil industry, the company brings many years of experience in the handling and the transportation of oilfield equipment and materials. In addition to a diverse number of transport services, Bert Baxter Transport acts as a custodian for several pipe suppliers and steel companies, maintaining several pipe storage facilities in Estevan.

The company also maintains mechanic and welding facilities in Estevan that is well-equipped and staffed to handle any number of repairs. With a fleet of over 60 trucks and 100 trailers, Bert Baxter Transport knows how important it is to maintain the fleet; that is why they also provide assistance and emergency repairs for truckers that may find themselves needing a hand on the way through town.

Bert Baxter Transport has been a proud sponsor of many cultural and recreational organizations within the city of Estevan and surrounding area. They pride themselves on community involvement focusing mostly on minor recreational teams and facilities that house them.
