Market Report May 2011 General In March, manufactured goods’ prices rose to the highest level since October 2008. Producer price inflation hit 5.4%, although Markets had been expecting a fall to 5.1%, which caused a brief jump in the value of Sterling.

Exchange Rates • Against the $, Sterling opened the month at 1.63 and stood at 1.63 as at 8th April.

• Against the Euro, Sterling opened the month at 1.164 and ended at 1.135 at 8th April.

Crude Oil

Our new products this month include: • Delicious, topped Bakehouse Donuts - available in Strawberry, Lemon Meringue, Double Chocolate, Maple Pecan and Glazed.

These really are Donut heaven.

Crude Oil prices continued to rise. Brent Crude and Light Sweet Crude Oil on NYMEX were up 5%. In Europe, prices for unleaded premium petrol rose 12% and diesel by 5%, as E.U. refineries, reliant on high-quality crude, seek to replace lost supplies from Libya.

Vegetable Oil - Prices continued to fall, as the increased South American soya bean harvest will soon arrive on the market.

Soya Bean Oil - Rotterdam prices fell 5%. The South American Soya Bean forecast has risen to 127 million tonnes - 1.5 million tonnes higher than last month's forecast.

Rapeseed Oil - Prices fell 3%, as the Ukrainian crop has developed.

Sunflower Oil - Rotterdam prices fell 5%.

Dried Fruit

Our ‘Editors Choice’ promotion this month is a fantastic £6.30 off Flora Margarine 2Kg. At this price it’s sure to fly off the shelves, so order yours today!

Dried fruit prices were mixed last month, given a seasonal dip in demand. On average, Sultana prices fell 1%, Raisin prices rose 1% and Greek Currants fell 4%, although news that Greece is sold out sent prices soaring in early April.

Cocoa and Coconut

Cocoa - Bean prices fell 15% on LIFFE last month, given increased West African and Indonesian supply. There were also hopes that large cocoa stocks may be released after the key Ivorian port of San Pedro was seized by forces of the U.N. backed Alassane Ouattara. U.K. cocoa butter prices fell 21% given a seasonal lack of demand, but powder prices rose 10%, as reduced grindings led to a lack of supply.

Desiccated Coconut - Prices fell 4% on average, in sympathy with falls in the coconut oil market.

Dairy The upward trend in Dairy market prices has reversed over the past month.

Milk - E.U. supplies are improved against this time last year and the forthcoming seasonal increase in milk production will further weaken prices.

Milk Powder - E.U. Skimmed prices have fallen sharply and Whole Milk Powder prices are down 5%.

Butter - E.U. prices fell 2% but remain expensive when compared to the world market. The E.U. Private Storage Aid scheme reopened on March 1st, but has not yet attracted large volumes, as market prices remain high.

Whey Powder - E.U. prices fell 7%.

Cheese - Prices generally continued to increase, with U.K. Cheddar up 3%.
