About the Cullen Trust for Higher Education The Cullen Trust for Higher Education is one of three trusts that are part of the larger Cullen Foundation, which has distributed more than $560 million in grants since its inception in 1947. Established by Hugh Roy and Lillie Cranz Cullen, the Cullen Foundation has given generously to support cultural arts, education, health care and public service in Texas. Cullen family members still take active roles as directors of the foundation, continuing the legacy of giving initiated by Mr. and Mrs. Cullen during their lives.

About the Value Institute for Health and Care Launched by Dell Medical School in 2017, the Value Institute helps organizations, including Dell Medical School’s clinical operation, UT Health Austin, create and implement high-value health care delivery. The Value Institute is an internationally recognized expert resource for high-value health care implementation and measurement, and for relationship-centered care solutions. The Value Institute also works to transform health care through education, offering a unique Master of Science in Health Care Transformation and executive education workshops focused on the how-to of leading, implementing and paying for high-value health care. Through transformation, education and thought leadership, the institute serves as a resource for those seeking to catalyze and accelerate change in how health care is delivered.

History of the Endowed Chair Endowed chairs are a powerful tradition with a lasting legacy. Lady Margaret Beaufort, mother of King Henry VII, established the first named chair in England in 1502 at Cambridge and Oxford universities. Five centuries later, her endowed gift continues to support distinguished faculty members. Today, holding an endowed chair remains one of the highest honors in academia — and recognizes excellence in research, education and care. These prestigious positions are made possible by generous donors who have invested in ensuring visionary health transformation and leadership at Dell Medical School. Medallions are presented to endowed chairholders during a formal investiture ceremony. The medallion serves as a tribute to the generosity of the donors and to the outstanding accomplishments of the chairholder.
