I also am interested in your opinion on why so many people are still out and about in Berkeley and Oakland, spending money in restaurants and such. What gives? How long will this last? The housing doom folks said that prices would go back to 1997 levels - are they nuts? Clear-eyed? Why are all my young friends buying houses? I hear there are bidding wars on houses in the East Bay. ??? what? My MIL says this recession is worse than 1980, but I feel like we're still all alot richer than we were in 1980. Interest rates were 18% in 1980. 2009: worse than 1980? Please opine. Thank you. Posted by: Leila Abu-Saba | July 11, 2009 at 10:42 PM
