02 You Should Try This New Wellness Retreat In Bali The main pool at Revivo Wellness Resort in Bali © 2018 What The Fox Studio / IB Photography Limited It was so quiet in the open air dining pavilion that the couple at the next table was whispering. They didn’t have to; there’s no volume restriction at REVĪVŌ, the wellness retreat that opened in Bali last year. But unlike the overdevelopment and wall to wall traffic that’s now a scourge in the southern stretch of this famous Indonesian island, it’s utterly peaceful here. Guests, respectfully, don’t want to disturb it. Spiritual activities are part of the mindfulness programs. Revivo Wellness Resort They’ve come here for that serenity along with this retreat’s unique focus. REVĪVŌ’s approach is internal/external, combining mental and physical aspects. That means a heavy dose of mind training, teaching guests to gain control of their emotions, embrace change, get all of their senses to operate at top level. De-stressing is one of the major programs. © 2018 What The Fox Studio / IB Photography Limited Individually tailored programs are geared to specific goals: detoxing and weight loss, antiaging, improving sleep patterns, managing stress, emotional balance. So there are meditation classes, yoga classes, fitness classes, Pilates and a range of sybaritic local treatments in the holistic spa such as a body scrub of shredded coconut, aloe vera and coconut milk and a papaya enzyme wrap. Through a new association with GeneFit, they’re
also offering NutriFit, a DNA testing service to determine the diet and lifestyle regimes to be recommended based on a guest’s genes. Predisposition to wrinkles can be revealed as well. Green Dream soup, a kale miso soup with coconut kefir kuzu with olive oil and sage leaves is ... Dishes are prepared with mostly organic ingredients, high in protein, low in carbs with healthy fats, utilizing healing herbs, probiotic dressings and other beneficial additions under the umbrella description of healthy clean food. The design of the 16 villas reflect their origin as part of an Amanresort. © 2018 What The Fox Studio / IB Photography Limited Some veer strictly vegan such as a lentil burger with portobello mushrooms, onions, cucumber, purple sauerkraut, etc. but the nearly encyclopedic listing also goes into the realm of slow roasted Balinese pork and grilled grass fed beef with asparagus, broccoli, green salad and baked sweet potatoes. Even the healthiest options are artfully plated, fully flavored and really delicious, drawing even non-guests for meals. (The restaurant is open to the public.) Drinks range widely too from a recharge juice of grapefruit, green apple, starfruit, lemongrass and lime to a substantial wine list and cocktails such as Turmeric Nation, with turmeric syrup, orange juice, triple sec and tequila. No deprivation here. When not in programmed classes, guests can lounge at the saltwater pool. Revivo Wellness Resort There isn’t any in the accommodations either. Located in a former Amanresort on seven and a half acres surrounded by a teak forest, the 16 traditional villas are spacious, starting at 1356 square feet, with voile draped fourposter beds and gardens; two have private pools to complement the retreat’s main saltwater pool. The style will change dramatically in the resorts due to open in other parts of the world starting next year: in a 19th century castle
outside of Barcelona and a chateau in the southwest French village of Tarn. A wellness club will also be added to the First Roma By the Pavilions Hotels & Resorts in Rome and an onsen spa opened in Niseko, Japan. But even though these will vary in appearance, the treatments, philosophies and hopefully most of the menu will transfer. How to get there: Due to the recent protests in Hong Kong, travelers have been wary of going into the city. But the city’s airport is still bustling, partly due to its efficiency and Cathay Pacific’s top service and extensive network of connections to cities in Asia, including Denpasar, Bali. The airline has also recently upgraded its onboard cuisine and bedding in business and first class.
03 Sam Kerr gets to Bali after run-in with Jetstar over damaged passport Champion Australian footballer Sam Kerr isn’t the only passenger to endure a run-in with Jetstar, but the difference is she went straight to the front of the queue after voicing her complaints via social media. The Matildas superstar tweeted her disgust at being refused boarding on a flight to Bali after the airline deemed her passport too damaged to travel. Kerr’s photo of her passport showed just minor damage, but the airline said Indonesian authorities had ordered a crackdown on weathered passports and they were just enforcing regulations.
The striker’s tweet to her 58,000 followers attracted support and sympathy in equal doses. More importantly, it prompted publicity sensitive Jetstar into action. And guess what? Suddenly Kerr’s passport was deemed fit for travel after all. The next morning she posted a poolside photo from her Balinese villa.

03 Friends crowdfund sum to help student attend Bali conference The 3rd-year FC pupil got selected for the meet, but was unable to sponsor his travel In a great show of solidarity, friends of a pupil studying in Fergusson College (FC) have initiated a crowdfunding programme for the youth who has been selected for an international conference to be held in Bali, Indonesia. Akshay Khedkar, a third-year BSc student from Fergusson College, had attempted an examination to participate in the Bali Asia
International Model United Nations (BAIMUN), a simulation of an actual United Nations conference, where participants are tasked with solving a global issue through research and debate. After two attempts, Khedkar has been selected to be part of the international conference and get an understanding on the global climate change threats and ways to safeguard the environment. While his accommodation has been taken care of by the organisers, hailing from a farmer’s family, Khedkar was finding it hard to arrange for his travel costs. When he discussed his plight with his friends, to his surprise, his fellow students began a crowdfunding initiative to help his cause. Khedkar, who comes from Pathardi village in Ahmednagar, said, “Both my parents are farmers by profession, and it is not possible for them to bear the cost associated with the trip. When I told my friends about the situation I was in, they went ahead and circulated a message on social media. Many of my friends messaged me about their support and even helped me financially.” While the conference concentrates on the evolving cultural and environmental awareness for a brighter future, Khedkar wishes to attend the session and find solution to the environmental challenges that Maharashtra is facing. While the conference is scheduled on January 2020, Khedkar’s friends have already taken to the task to ensure that he does not miss out on attending the event. Shubham Patil, a friend of Khedkar from FC, said, “I have contributed Rs 1,500 and have asked others to come forward as well. Attending the conference will also help him in his academics. We want our friend to represent India at an international level.” Mahesh Bade, another friend who is a civil services aspirant, said, “We are spreading the message among our friend circles in Pune. Khedkar has worked hard to appear for the programme. His understanding about environment and his wish to make sure that the learning helps him solve the agrarian issues in the state means a lot to the younger generation.” While the students initiated the fundraising early this week, they have already collected Rs 8,000-9,000 and are hoping to raise more. Khedkar needs Rs 60,000 approximately to take care of his travel expenses.
Dr KL Patil, professor, chemistry department, FC, said, “Khedkar is a very hardworking student. While he has put in a lot of efforts to participate in this conference, we are happy that other students have come forward to aid the cause.
