Mobile phone deals have been the undisputed stars of Black Friday in 2019, and just when we thought the deals couldn't possibly get any better, they do exactly that. Fonehouse has already delivered loads of great deals on mobile phone contracts, with some of the latest handsets included in its sale. The online retailer has taken things up a notch with its latest promotion however, and is now offering a free Nintendo Switch or PS4 with its mobile phone deals. You can pick up handsets like the Apple iPhone XR, Honor 8S, Huawei P Smart, and Samsung Galaxy A20e at low rates, with the free gifts thrown in as the icing on the cake. Anyone looking for a new contract may as well capitalise on this deal, as free consoles don't come around very often. Fonehouse keeps raising the standards this Black Friday, and we're all for it.

02 The Best Phone and Smartwatch Deals for Black Friday If you have an iPhone, an Apple Watch is the best smartwatch to get—anything Series 3 or higher will serve you well. There are decent alternatives below though, all of which work on Android and iOS. Apple Watch Series 3 for $170 ($30 off) Walmart, Best Buy ($189), Target ($170), Amazon

The Apple Watch Series 3 is one of our favorite fitness watches and priced anywhere under $200 is a steal. Yes, it's a little more than two years old now, but it still holds up with a great screen and day-long battery life. It can still run the latest version of Apple's excellent smartwatch operating system too. Apple Watch Series 4 for $299 ($100 off) Best Buy You only need to buy the latest Apple Watch Series 5 if you desperately want a screen that always displays the time. If you don't care about that as much, and if you don't mind twisting your arm to wake up the screen so you can see the clock, the Series 4 is still a great option. Apple Watch Series 5 (GPS) for $379 ($20 off) Amazon, Walmart It's not much of a deal, but considering the Apple Watch Series 5 is so new, this is likely the best discount you'll see for some time. The Series 5 (8/10, WIRED Recommends) doesn't reinvent the wheel, or square in this case, but it does bring features like an always-on display so you can always see the time without having to raise the watch. Samsung Galaxy Watch 42 mm for $250 ($80 off) Amazon, Samsung, Target, Best Buy This watch might be a year old, but it's still good value at this price. You can respond to notifications, track workouts and sleep, and it can last around two days if you're not using it too heavily. It's best paired with a Samsung phone, but it works just as well with other Android devices; some functionality is limited when connected to an iPhone. Samsung Galaxy Watch Active 2 for $250 ($50 off) Amazon, Samsung, Walmart, Best Buy, Target The new Galaxy Watch Active 2 has a digital bezel that lets you scroll through the interface cleanly, and gives the wearable a more minimalist look. The improved heart rate sensors allow for more accurate fitness tracking, there's an electrocardiogram function (though it's

still in a research phase), and the battery can last a little more than a day. We've linked the larger 44 mm model above, but you can get the 40 mm for less. Fossil Sport for $149 ($130 off) Fossil ($149), Amazon ($165), Walmart ($165), Best Buy ($165), Target ($165) The Fossil Sport was the first Wear OS watch to be powered by the new Qualcomm Snapdragon Wear 3100 chip. The interface is still not as smooth as the one on an Apple Watch, but if you want stay on top of notifications and do some light fitness tracking, Fossil's watch is a solid option, especially at $150. Fossil sells it for a little less than other retailers. Also check out the other smartwatches on Fossil's site, which are seeing up to 50 percent off select styles if you use the promo code INTHEBAG at checkout. On Cyber Monday, use the code MONDAY at checkout to see up to a 70 percent discount on sale items. Fitbit Versa 2 for $149 ($50 off) Amazon, Target, Best Buy The Fitbit Versa 2 leans a little more toward fitness tracker compared to others on this list, but it's undeniably a smartwatch. You can see notifications and even respond to them (if you're on Android), and Alexa is onboard, so you can ask Amazon's assistant anything. Our reviewer, Adrienne So, said the Versa 2's (6/10, WIRED Recommends) software interface isn't great and she had a few connectivity issues, but the watch can last five days and can track your sleep—two things the Apple Watch can't do.

02 Mobile phone ban introduced to public schools in Tasmania The Tasmanian government has announced it will ban mobile phones during school hours at all public schools in the state, claiming the move will create a better learning environment for students. From term two next year, students from primary school to year 12 will be required to have their phones switched off and put away from the time they arrive to school until the end of the school day. A review will be undertaken after 12 months of the ban being implemented, the state government said.

"While electronic devices have a place in learning, we also need to acknowledge the issues that can occur when their use is not regulated such as cyberbullying and serious distraction," said Minister for Education and Training Jeremy Rockliff. "The decision follows significant consultation with educators, students and their families, and brings Tasmania in line with other states which have moved to impose restrictions on mobile phones. "Importantly, a number of schools have already implemented a ban with principals reporting an increase in student wellbeing and more face to face interaction between students. I want this for all Tasmanian schools." See also: Parenting in a digital age: How screen time affects children and what to do about it (TechRepublic) Rockliff added that exemptions will be made for "special circumstances", such as where a student needs to monitor a health condition or is under direct instruction of a teacher to use it for educational purposes. The state government has also proposed that students in year 11 and 12 are given an "optout" option, which is subject to approval from each school association. Federal Minister for Education Dan Tehan has welcomed the move by the Tasmanian government. "When you talk to students, teachers and parents at schools where mobile phones are banned they will tell you that student performance improves and children are playing at lunchtime again," he said. "Banning mobile phones gives students the opportunity to concentrate, think, learn, play and engage." The ban by the Tasmanian government follows similar actions that have been taken by the Victorian and Western Australian governments. In August, the Victorian government committed AU$12 million to help schools to deliver storage solutions to securely store student mobile phones.

Each school will be able to apply for funding that can be used towards secure storage resources, such as purchasing or upgrading lockers or new padlocks for existing lockers, lockable pouches for schools that do not have lockers or sufficient space, or secure storage cupboards. Data released last week by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) showed that in 2018, 32% of Australian children owned a mobile phone, with a further 16% having access to one. The analysis of Roy Morgan data also showed that one in four kids who are 6-7 years old had or used a mobile phone. The research also compared the usage of mobile phones by children on a state by state basis. It showed those in NSW and the ACT had the highest access, with 52% of kids in those states owning or having access to a mobile, up from 44% in 2013. While the lowest was in Queensland with 43% of kids aged 6-13 years had access to a mobile phone. ACMA said the most common reasons for kids to use mobile phones were to play games at 70%, take photos at 67%, use apps at 64%, and call their family at 57%.
