BOCA RATON, FL – Tastemakers at Mizner Park presents “Rock, Roll & Stroll,” a fabulous progressive food and cocktail tasting featuring many of center’s restaurants and live rock music, on Wednesday, September 17 from 6 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. at Mizner Park in Boca Raton. “We are very excited about this year’s new ‘rock & roll’ theme with two live bands playing throughout the evening and are pleased to partner with the City of Boca Raton,” said Barbara Finn, marketing manager forMizner Park. “This event has been so successful in years past we extended it into the Mizner Park Amphitheater to include a separate craft beer tasting and additional entertainment.”
The Mizner Park Amphitheater will be host to craft beer tastings from the Florida Beer Company, Gold Coast Distributors, Harpoon Brewery, and the New Belgium Brewery, and music by rock band, Amp’d. Tickets, available now at www.miznerpark.com, are $30 per person and include one tasting and select beverage at each participating restaurant with presentation of the VIP Ticket Book. Tickets may also be purchased at each participating restaurant. In addition, the ticket booklets will include reusable exclusive offerings from various Mizner Park eateries valid August 1 through October 31, 2014. Featured Mizner Park “Tastemakers” are: Dubliner – Shepherd’s Pie with Guinness Mac & Cheese and Irish soda bread, paired with a special “Black Velvet,” combination of Guinness and Cider. FAU Football Soars Into New Era By David DiPino The Pineapple Staff Writer
F
lorida Atlantic University’s (FAU) football program is taking off in a new direction with a new head coach who plans to help the Owls soar into an impressive non-conference schedule and Conference USA play in 2014. FAU Owls football opened up against nonconference Big Ten foe at the University of Nebraska on Aug. 30 and fly’s north to SEC Conference powerhouse the University of Alabama on Sept. 6 (noon, SEC Network). Coach Charlie Partridge and the Owls will make their 2014 debut on the Howard Schnellenberger Field at FAU Stadium on Saturday, Sept. 13, when they host the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at 7 p.m. The full schedule of FAU Football home games includes against Conference USA opponents the University of Texas San Antonio (UTSA) on Saturday, Sept. 27, Western Kentucky at noon on Oct. 18, FAU Homecoming versus UAB at 7 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 1, and the season finale against Old Dominion at noon on Saturday, Nov. 29. “I hope we’re way better in our first home game (third game overall) than we are in our first few away games. We need to make a great impression in front of our home fans. Especially if I have to wear ugly red pants for our student section,” said Coach Partridge. Apparently, the FAU student body has already got the best of Coach Partridge in

a good way. Coach Partridge promised to the FAU student body that if they fill the student section during home games in 2014 he’ll wear red pants. FAU students have targeted the home opener against Tulsa on Sept. 13, and a Fill the FAU Football Student Section September 13 community page has popped up on Facebook with over 625 likes and an FAU Red Pants Twitter handle has over 1,768 followers on Twitter @RedHotFAU. As for FAU Stadium outside of the student section, individual game and season tickets are available at: http://www.fausports.com/tickets/fau-tickets.html. FAU’s new head coach calls Planation, Fla. his hometown and Coach Partridge and his wife Julie have two daughters. Prior to soaring into FAU, Coach Partridge coached three defensive players to All-Conference Honors at the University of Arkansas. rader Joe’s is bullish on Florida, especially South Florida. The popular grocery store chain has announced several new stores and opening dates for stores in Boca Raton and Delray Beach. According to the grocer’s website, new stores are coming to Delray Beach, Fort Lauderdale, Wellington, Palm Beach Gardens, Boca Raton and Pembroke Pines. The Delray Beach location is set to open on Friday, September 5th. The Boca Raton location is scheduled to open on Friday, September 26th. The company will also open stores in Winter Park, Jacksonville Beach, and St. Petersburg. Trader Joe’s has become a hugely popular brand, with dedicated fans. But until recently, the chain hasn’t had a presence in the Florida market. A majority of the products stocked at Trader Joe’s are private label. The private label that means it’s free of artificial colors, flavors, ingredients, and preservatives. Some of the most popular are “Two Buck Chuck,” bottles of wine for 2.99 a pop and Trader Joe’s famous cookie butter products Since its launch in 1958 in the Los Angeles area, Trader Joe’s has expanded to more than 390 stores in 35 states. With Whole Foods, Western Beef, Aldi, Walmart food stores, several ethnic markets and Fresh Market in BocaDelray, the food landscape is rapidly evolving and becoming more diverse. This is good news for a growing cadre of foodies,
including Julie McNamara of West Boca, who says she visits up to three different stores a week. “I’ve been living in Boca for 22 years and the only choices used to be Publix or Winn Dixie,” she said. “Albertson’s came and went but this is just a far better situation for people like me who love to cook and comparison shop.” Nationally and locally the interest in food is soaring. Green Markets and community gardens have become popular staples in many cities, the restaurant scene is thriving and craft food and beverage manufacturers are cropping up everywhere. The food trend is even spawning new magazine titles, Delray Beach entrepreneur Irene Revelas recently launched Edible Palm Beach, a glossy publication devoted to food, chefs, gardens, agriculture and craft purveyors.
