Keynote Speaker Bishop Thomas E. Douglas Sr., Ph.D. ‘79 Senior Pastor, Holy Temple Holiness Church of Deliverance, Inc. Lauderhill, Florida Bishop Thomas E. Douglas is the Senior Pastor of the Holy Temple Holiness Church of Deliverance, Inc. (Florida). He received his call under the late Chief Apostle Julia Williams, under whose guidance he flourished as a soldier for the community and developed a passion for youth and the less fortunate. That passion was further fueled by the dynamic leadership and vision of Apostle James Tilghman and Senior Pastor Greta Tilghman. He has held numerous positions in the church organization including minister, evangelist, elder, and assistant pastor. He has more than twenty-seven (27) years of professional experience in the field of ministry, education, and community outreach. Bishop Douglas earned his B.S Degree from Delaware State University in 1979 and went on to earn Ph.D., and M.Ed. Degrees from Howard University and Coppin State University. He was a member of the Delaware State University Hornets Football Team, and after graduating, took his skills to the Canadian Football Leagues. Because of his achievements in football, Thomas Douglas was inducted into the Delaware State University Athletics Hall of Fame, Class of 2016. He is also a proud member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated. In addition to his ministry, Bishop Douglas currently serves as Co-Founder of the Center for Economics and Policy Development, Inc., and is president of the Florida Chapter of National African American Drug Policy Coalition, (NAADPC ). He is a Board Member for Alternative Learning Solutions Schools, a Graduate of Leadership Broward Class XXVII,. and the Lead Trainer for Faith Based Educational Initiatives. Bishop Douglas is also a champion for social justice and has been involved in a variety of related causes. Presently, he is engaged in providing educational alternatives to youth who choose developing their gifts through vocational training instead of enrolling in college degree programs. He is the Founder of the Institute for Holy Living, where over 36 children have been adopted and mentored towards successfully achieving their goals. Alumnus Douglas is married to Pastor and First-Lady Shauna Whittick-Douglas. They are the proud parents of six (6) biological children and a host of adopted children. Together they are building a cadre of young soldiers for the army of God in the South Florida area. Bishop Douglas believes that the scriptures are the foundation and enduring principles that governs our lives. “God is a Changeless God in a Changing World” is his mantra.

President’s Faith Partner Award Recipient The Honorable Christopher A. Coons United States Senator, Delaware Chris Coons was elected to the United States Senate in 2010 following terms as New Castle County Council President and New Castle County Executive. In the Senate, he sits on the Appropriations, Judiciary, Foreign Relations, Small Business and Entrepreneurship, and Ethics Committees. Chris has worked hard to find bipartisan solutions to the issues confronting Delaware and the nation. A person of deep faith, Chris grew up attending Red Clay Creek Presbyterian Church and was an ordained elder with West Presbyterian Church. He earned a Master’s Degree in Ethics from Yale Divinity School and worked with the South African Council of Churches, where he had the opportunity to preach in Archbishop Desmond Tutu’s church. He continues to preach regularly at houses of worship across Delaware. In 2019, he and Senator James Lankford, his Republican colleague from Oklahoma, co-chaired the 67th annual National Prayer Breakfast, and Chris regularly participates in the weekly Senate Prayer Breakfast. Chris has worked with organizations such as the National Coalition for the Homeless and the education-oriented “I Have a Dream” Foundation. Chris has been a leading advocate for HBCUs in the U.S. Senate. In 2019, he was one of a small group of senators who introduced a bipartisan compromise that for the first time secured permanent federal funding for HBCUs and simplified the application for federal financial aid for students. This year, he introduced and led the bipartisan passage of the FLIGHT Act, a bill which calls to expand ROTC resources at HBCUs and minority institutions, with special emphasis on flight training. He is the lead Democratic sponsor of the HBCU PARTNERS Act, which would require key federal agencies to undertake annual planning to partner with HBCUs and facilitate Congressional oversight of those efforts. A longtime New Castle County resident, Chris grew up in the Pike Creek and Hockessin areas and lives in Wilmington with his wife, Annie, and their three children, Michael, Jack, and Maggie.
