FALL2016 2015 FALL

A Letter from the President

Fall has always been one of my favorite seasons because it is known as the season of change. The weather is getting a little bit colder, the leaves are turning different colors, football has finally returned, and a new school year has begun. Fall is also the time of year when the current leadership of Delta Omicron begins to finish up the term and transition new officers into positions. When gathering my notes and binders together to pass on to the new CEO, I came across all of the achievements that the chapter has seen this past year. We raised the chapter GPA significantly and received recognition from Headquarters for it. We received Top Panhellenic Points for the second year in a row and also earned 3rd place for our float in the Homecoming Parade. New committees such as Affinity Groups, the New Member Committee, and the Sisterhood Committee were created and an offer to test out a new cabinet structure has been accepted to offer our members more leadership opportunities. The New Member class is one of the largest that Kappa Alpha Theta has ever had and they are an intelligent, driven, beautiful class that will do amazing things for this chapter. I want to take this opportunity to thank everyone for giving me the opportunity to be the Kappa Alpha Theta Delta Omicron CEO. It truly has been an honor leading this chapter. I encourage everyone to keep the momentum going and push to achieve great things. The achievements, both mentioned above and not, are because of each and every member's dedication to improving the chapter every day and living out the Kappa Alpha Theta values. Remember that even though obstacles will surely come up, there is nothing you can't overcome as long as you work together. Loyally, Emily Oulton 2

Fall Events Bid Day Bid Day 2015 was an exciting time for us. 160 new members opened their bids and ran to the house that day. We loved welcoming the new members and showing them their new home!

Sisterhood Retreat The day after bid day, we went on a riverboat cruise. We enjoyed getting to know each other better and welcoming the new members into our sisterhood.

Kastaway Date Party Our first date party of the semester was a beach themed event called “KAsTaway.” We had so much fun dancing the night away in our Hawaiian shirts and leis with live music from the local band Trotline!

Day of Service October 19th was Theta’s Day of Service. This is a day where Theta chapters serve their communities in honor of our founder Bettie Locke’s birthday. We collected trash along the Tuscaloosa Riverwalk to keep our community beautiful! 3

FALL 2015 2016 FALL

Spotlight on: Homecoming Week Homecoming week is a time to celebrate the University of Alabama’s traditions and pride. Each year, the sororities and fraternities participate by creating a lawn decoration and competing in various intramural sports.

Our sisters represented Theta in the homecoming bowling, dodge ball, flag football, basketball and dance competitions. We made posters and came to cheer on our sisters that played.

The theme of this year’s homecoming was Forever Crimson, which represents the pride we have in the Capstone. Our pomp chairs worked hard to design a pomp that represents this theme. We created a storybook display that featured famous campus landmarks like Denny Chimes and Bryant-Denny Stadium. Our sisters worked together all week to create our beautiful pomp!

Our homecoming dance team, Saban’s Army, put together an amazing routine to the music of Ghostbusters. They wowed the crowd with their performance! On the day of the Homecoming game, we marched in the annual homecoming parade, singing Theta cheers for the crowd. Our float took third place overall in the parade and we are so proud!

More Fall Events Parents Weekend We loved having our parents visit for Parents Weekend in September! We hosted a silent auction to benefit CASA, ate a game day meal at the house and hosted a brunch for our parents.

Famous Couples Date Party Our October Date party was famous couples themed. We had a great night in our costumes at Cypress Inn.

Sisterhood Event at the Barnyard At the end of October we went to the Tuscaloosa Barnyard for our sisterhood event. We had such a fun day with our sisters picking pumpkins and petting baby animals!

Big/Little Reveal Big/Little reveal was an exciting day, especially for our new members, who became a part of our Theta families. After a week of visiting their littles and giving them presents and decorations, bigs spread around the house waiting for their littles to find them and join the family! 5
