Bridal Guide 2020

As sure as the snow melts a way early each spring, this season remains a popular time to plan weddings.

Whether those weddings are happening this summer, among the beautiful changing leaves of fall, or sometime next year or beyond, many northeast Wisconsin businesses stand ready to help make the day be as personal and special as possible to the bride and groom and their guests. Following is a summary of some of those businesses and what they have to offer during this exciting time in couples’ lives.

Stardust Limousine Stardust Limousine has been transporting brides, grooms, and wedding parties on their special day since 1992.

“We have been in business so long because we want the customer to be happy with Star dust, so we go that extra mile,” owner Mike Hartmann said. “ Star dust puts ‘u’ in a limousine.”

Hartmann started the business with a partner but is now the sole owner. He began by doing airport trips for the Mirro Compan y in Manitowoc, and the limo business took off very quickly, he said. Star dust started with one limousine and expanded to three, then diversified to add a sedan, sport-utility vehicle ( SU V), 14-passenger SU V , and a limo bus. Star dust Li mousine

was the first company in the area to have a limo bus. “ I got i t brand new and it cost more than my house, but it paid off quickly,” Hartmann said. “When we first went through towns like Kiel, people almost broke their necks looking back when we passed them with the limo. People wondered what star or important person was in town.” Today , Star dust

The Stardust fleet can be used to take guests home after the wedding if they have had too much to drink, or to take the bride and groom to their hotel or the airport to start their honeymoon. Hartmann said his business also does transportation for bachelor and bachelorette parties. In addition, Stardust Li mousine serves all Wisconsin airports. They provide service from Fond du Lac to Green Bay, Appleton to Sheboygan, and all areas in between. See our ad on page 19 Boelter’s Jewelry

Boelter’s Jewelers was established in 1927 in a small storefront across from Washington Park in Manitowoc. The Boelter family started the business with the desire to help Manitowoc residents with their jewelry needs. With the staff’s friendliness and knowledge, along with the store’s large merchandise selection and repair services, the business quickly grew and it soon expanded to a much larger location at 2101 Washington St. , where it is still thriving. In earl y May 2015, owner Ri chard Fr ancois, of Punta Gor da, Fl orida, sold the business to Thomas and Kathy Muench of Manitowoc. They employ 12 part-time and full-time employees. Kathy has worked at Boelter’s for over 30 years, and when the opportunity came up to purchase the store there was no hesitation in what their answer would be—a definite “yes.” Boelter’s primary goal remains to provide the best selection of jewelry and the kind of service customers want. Customers appreciate the personal service. Boelter’s tries to go beyond for their customers. Some people may think that buying jewelry is too expensive and almost painful. Boelter’s staff said they think buying anything should be fun and warm the heart. That is why Boelter’s Jewelers provides a variety of excellent quality items to meet any need that a customer could have.

Boelter’s is known for its fine jewelry, but it also offers Seik o and Car avelle watches, Seik o musical clocks, ID bracelets, charms,

See our ad on inside front cover The Lake House, Cedar Lake Waterfront dining options. Cocktails in the breeze. Live entertainment. The area’s newest waterfront restaurant offers more than just another option. The Lak e House on Cedar Lak e offers not only a great dining experience with the best view in Wisconsin, but the experience will expand to include the free white sand beach, amazing cocktails, live music, a private event hall and beautiful tiki bar. Ni ck Con way, owner and proprietor of The Lake House knows that people want options when it comes to dining and entertainment. He and his staff are prepared to make the experience memorable on your next visit. “ Food is a huge aspect of our business. We are one of the best waterfront dining options in Manitowoc County,” he said. “But it’s more than just the location. We want to provide our patrons with fresh, local, healthy and tasty Ameri can comfort food.” Krystle Augsburger is the new chef at The Lak e House, and she brings great experience from both the Shebo ygan Yacht Cl ub and Osthoff Resort. “She loves to come up with new and fresh ideas that will continue to separate us from the rest of the pack,” Con way said. “She has great vision.” The chef’s ingenuity has pointed to recent specialties like margarita tacos and tequila shrimp nachos, both crowd pleasers since their introduction.

“We don’t like to think of ourselves in a particular lane of food options. We might have salads and burgers, but they will have a high end feel. We like to call it casually gourmet,” he said. A wide selection of appetizers is available year around, with the list including items like jumbo Bavarian pretzels, Henning’s beer battered cheese curds, home made sliders, Shri mp de Johnge. The Lak e House’s salad and sandwich section includes standards like double brats or double Chi cago hot dogs, but veers into other tasty options like fish tacos, Italian paninis. “We also have a truly amazing Cuban panini on the menu,” Con way notes. “What makes the menu special is that so many of our items are made fresh on site, from cole slaw, to pico de gallo to fish tacos,” he said. An aggressive burger menu includes bold burger choices for big appetites, all with a flaire for the creative. When it comes to the dinner menu, Conway said The Lak e House will feature local steaks. But patrons can also order gems like the shrimp diablo pasta, with a

host of spices. The printed menu is supplemented by the fresh Catch of the Week. “We wanted to offer something in the seafood realm every week of the year,” Conway noted. “ Our chef comes up with the recipes, and she has done some amazing things with salmon and sword fish.”

Just recently, The Lake House served a Catch of the Week Speci al that offered salmon in orange sauce. She enhanced the entree with bourbon glazed grilled carrots and garlic mashed potatoes.

While the range of options is important to Con way, he wants The Lak e House to be known as a family restaurant, and he hopes that it will become known for the customer service, vision and overall experience.

“Part of our experience is the service, and we have pulled together a great staff from some amazing local families. They have great work ethic and background. We know they will serve our

customers well” Conway noted that his wife, Brandi, offered that Kiel connection. Origi nally from Kiel, she currently works as a nurse, but she knows so many of the staff and families that they come from. Great cocktail options abound at The Lake House. One of the hot specialties out of the gate has been the blueberry-infused whiskey old fashioned. Turning the tables on one of Wisconsin’s great supper club traditions, The Lak e House takes old fashioneds into a new zone. “ The whiskey sits in the blueberries for hours, and it serves as the basis for our old fashioned. They are simply delicious,” even if

Conway must compliment his own concoction. Employed by years with Bacardi and Patron. Con way loves to get inventive with cocktails and spirits. “We want to do anything we can do that sets us apart from others. We will concoct and create just about anything to add to the customer experience,” he said. Al ong with cocktails, The Lak e House offers an aggressive selection of craft beers, which are continuously rotating. “We plan to change our beers out every two weeks to start, emphasizing good local Wisconsin beers,” he said. Lak e House Happy Hour is Monday, Wednesday and Thursda y each week, with appetizers served at half price, and a buck off on any drink of choice.

Happy Hour unwinds at The Lak e House from 3-6 p.m. on those days. The Lak e House also plans to enhance the customer experience with a full slate of musical performers.

Bands and solo artists have been booked for the summer season, with music every Saturday and Sunday from June to September. “The musicians range from six piece bands to solo acts—guys with a guitar,” he said. Ni ck Ri ncon, a friend of Con way’s, has been one of the early performers. He will appear at Country USA later this summer.

Beyond food and entertainment, The Lak e House has already planned several special events for the summer. Stop in for more information, visit our website or see our Facebook page. The Lake House offers both indoor and outdoor seating. Located south of County Highway X on Cedar Lak e Road, ampl e parking is available on site. The Lak e House is open for lunch, dinner, drinks and coffee. Doors open daily at 11 a.m. in summer and 3 p.m. in winter. Plymouth Furniture unique is that half the store is custom ordered furniture where you can choose the fabric or leather, power reclining, power headrest, etc. Plymouth Furni ture has a large selection of Amish-built dining and bedroom furniture and carries the best mattresses from Tempur-pedic, Stearns & Foster, and Sealy. The other half of our store is the area’s largest clearance center with sofas starting at $295 and twin mattresses starting at $89. In the clearance center you can purchase your furniture and take it with you. Owner Mike Shields said, “We are a unique furniture store because of our size we do not have to focus on one type of furniture or type of mattress. We generally see many newlyweds coming into the clearance center to furnish their new home and as time passes we see them come back and purchase custom heirloom quality furniture to pass down to their children or purchase custom made furniture to get the exact look they want.” He added, “Our customers are the ones that have built our brand to what it is today. Most people hear of us from friends that have purchased from us and can’t believe the values.” To contact Plymouth Furniture call 920-892-6006 or visit plymouthfurniturewi.com

Fett retires from Delta sales post

Delta Media Group has announced the retirement of account executive Dianne Fett. Fett, who worked as a sales representative for Delta Publications/Delta Media Group for the past 10 years, served customers mainly in the communities of Chilton, Stockbri dge, Hilbert, and portions of Cal umet and Manitowoc Counti es. During her 10 years with Delta, Dianne has worked on every edition of this magazine throughout its publishing history, both in sales and in offering ideas for content for Verve. “ I truly loved my job,” Fett said. “ It was great to get to know so many of my customers. I will miss those relationships that were built up over the years.” Fett, who has been active in community theater groups, doesn’t plan to sit still in retirement. “I have a lot of projects that I want to get done. I can’t wait for spring and summer when we can spend more time at our seasonal campsite, and in the outdoors with our dogs.”

Delta Media Gr oup sales manager Pam Mathes praised Fett for her professionalism. “ It has truly been a pleasure working with and getting to know Dianne. She embodied customer service in all her efforts to assist her customer base. She connected with the business people she served, and worked diligently to provide them with credible marketing solutions and plans through our product family here at Delta Media Gr oup,” she said. “We wish her well in her retirement.” We applaud Dianne for showing her Verve! 

Ombudsman volunteers being sought

The State of Wisconsin Board on Agi ng and Long Term Car e is recruiting qualified applicants to become trained advocates for residents served by the Volunteer Ombudsman Pr ogram. Volunteer ombudsmen make unannounced weekly visits to an assigned local nursing home between 8 a.m. and 8 p.m., providing a valuable opportunity for residents to share concerns, offer ideas, and talk with

someone independent of the facility. The Volunteer Ombudsman Pr ogram promotes residents’ rights, and volunteer ombudsmen are a voice for residents who do not have family or visitors. The residents look forward to the weekly visits with their volunteer ombudsman and get great satisfaction from their weekly visits to the facility. “ They receive more than they give” just by making weekly visits and advocating for the elderly, according to Kim Verstegen, volunteer coordinator. “It’s a win-win.”

Volunteer ombudsmen are needed at long-term care facilities in Manitowoc, Two Ri vers, and Cal umet County. For more information contact Verstegen at 1-800-815-0015 or email boaltc@wisconsin.gov. 
