WHAT IS A MAJOR?
A college major is the main subject or field of specialization you will study. Classes geared toward a specific field are part of a degree program and are structured to build on one another. Most degree programs typically consist of 124 semester hours.
WHAT CLASSES WILL YOU TAKE? General Education. These classes are the foundation that support success. Emphasis is placed on communication skills, scientific inquiry, critical thinking, mathematical and technological proficiency. Major. Your area of study that will allow you to focus and apply yourself in a field that you are passionate about. Electives. Courses you select that enhance your college experience.

STUDENT SUCCESS CENTER The Student Success Center is made up of four divisions: Academic Advising Services, Academic Support Services, First-Year Seminar and International Student Services. The center is located in the Student Union, so services are easily accessible to all students.
ACADEMIC ADVISING Academic Advising Services provide advising for students who are undeclared or thinking of changing their majors; assistance is offered to students facing challenges that hinder their academic success.
ACADEMIC SUPPORT Academic Support Services offers study skills’ workshops, structured study halls and tutoring sessions — all free of charge for DSU students! No appointment is necessary, just drop by the Academic Support Lab (Union 302B) Monday–Thursday, 8am–8pm.

Real life takes place outside of the classroom, but at Delta State, we combine the two to create a learning experience that makes a lasting impression. You will be prepared to face challenges after graduation through the learning opportunities offered at Delta State. The confidence you gain from hands-on experiences will make your next step in life a success.
BEYOND THE BOOKS INTERNSHIPS Earn college credit while gaining hands-on experience through internships. A form of on-the-job training for professional and vocational careers, internships may last from a couple weeks up to a year, and may be paid or unpaid. Interns learn invaluable practical skills and create a network of contacts while working in their chosen career field. Our students work in clinical, school and Fortune 500 business settings throughout the United States.
CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT Earn money while gaining experience through our federal work study (FWS) or regular student employment (RSE) programs. They are great ways to gain knowledge outside the classroom. Delta State University students work part-time, approximately 8–10 hours per week through these programs. In order to participate in the FWS program, students must complete the FAFSA. Career Services provides a listing of employment opportunities.

Championships are not just claimed on the field; they are earned in the classroom. Delta State University ranks 10th all-time in NCAA Division II in Academic All-American honors earned. Delta State competes in 15 intercollegiate sports as a member of the Gulf South Conference and is the only university in the state with a swimming and diving program.

vs STATESMEN VS FIGHTING OKRA We fight for the green and white at Delta State with two key team players. Despite some rowdy student objections, the official athletic mascot is the respected Statesmen. He represents the stature and strength of our 15 teams. The student-adopted mascot is the Fighting Okra, the most vicious of all vegetables. It was created by a band of students at Delta State and has since been strongly embraced.

SCHOLARSHIPS Through our scholarship program, Delta State University recognizes students who have excelled in high school and demonstrate the potential for academic success in college. Academic scholarships are awarded based on high school GPA, ACT/SAT scores and class rank. HIGH SCHOOL TRANSCRIPT Ask your school counselor to mail your official high school transcript (6-semester transcript for provisional review and final transcript with graduation date).
TEST SCORES Delta State’s college code for the ACT is 2190 and the SAT college code is 1163. Be sure to list Delta State on the registration form so your test scores will be sent to us.
