LEARNING FROM EXPERIENCE

Real life takes place outside of the classroom, but at Delta State, we combine the two to create a learning experience that makes a lasting impression. You will be prepared to face challenges after graduation through the learning opportunities offered at Delta State. The confidence you gain from hands-on experiences will make your next step in life a success.

BEYOND THE BOOKS INTERNSHIPS Earn college credit while gaining hands-on experience through internships. A form of on-the-job training for professional and vocational careers, internships may last from a couple weeks up to a year, and may be paid or unpaid. Interns learn invaluable practical skills and create a network of contacts while working in their chosen career field. Our students work in clinical, school and Fortune 500 business settings throughout the United States.

CAMPUS EMPLOYMENT Earn money while gaining experience through our federal work study (FWS) or regular student employment (RSE) programs. They are great ways to gain knowledge outside the classroom. Delta State University students work part-time, approximately 8–10 hours per week through these programs. In order to participate in the FWS program, students must complete the FAFSA. Career Services provides a listing of employment opportunities.

CAREER SERVICES

G S

Career Services offers students a wide variety of career development assistance, including resume writing, job/career fairs, mock interviews, career coaching, workshops, internship and job search assistance.

Chelsea

STUDY ABROAD

“By studying abroad, I was able to see how small I am in the world — which radically changed my perspective on what I value. Being ingrained in a country and culture outside of my own, and learning in it, allowed me to better understand who I am and who I aspire to be.”

Mic

INTERNSHIP

Academic support, faculty expectations and Delta State’s learning community will open your mind and allow you to learn while completing your degree program. Gaining real-world knowledge before entering the work force will best prepare you to hit the ground running after graduation.

“This internship has given me a lot more appreciation for the DMI Summer Camp. It helps me see the potential in these students, but it also shows what we all can do if we take the initiative. This experience will no doubt help me in the real world.”

Calli

STUDENT EMPLOYMENT “It’s a great laid back

atmosphere to get help with any kind of project. We can work on grammar, structure of your paper, finding a thesis statement — really anything that needs to be worked on.”

WHERE CHAMPIONS PLAY. In over 80 years of competition, no other Mississippi university has enjoyed the level of success that Delta State has achieved. Championships are not just claimed on the field; they are earned in the classroom. Delta State University ranks 10th all-time in NCAA Division II in Academic All-American honors earned. Delta State competes in 15 intercollegiate sports as a member of the Gulf South Conference and is the only university in the state with a swimming and diving program.

vs STATESMEN VS FIGHTING OKRA We fight for the green and white at Delta State with two key team players. Despite some rowdy student objections, the official athletic mascot is the respected Statesmen. He represents the stature and strength of our 15 teams. The student-adopted mascot is the Fighting Okra, the most vicious of all vegetables. It was created by a band of students at Delta State and has since been strongly embraced.
