HUSH Hush’s latest work deepens his exploration of the resulting emergences brought about by the evanescent quality of street art. Appreciating and identifying the remains of past tags as points of expression, the artist transitions this influence to his work that he refers to as “action painting” or “pure expressionism”. In his new work, Hush remains influenced by the escape from the constraints of traditions, the contrasts between old and new, the past meeting the future and the fusion of Eastern and Western culture.

‘Sirens’, was the first solo exhibition in Australia by UK artist Hush. Described as a ‘sensory assault’, Hush’s work is a visual treat, a layering of colours and a fusion of anime, pop-infused imagery, graffiti and graphic design. Fascinated by Asian graphic novels and inspired by the likes of Mimmo Rotella, Roy Lichtenstein and Sir Peter Blake, Hush has a unique style that has led to worldwide acclamation. He was recently recognised in London Independent’s list of ‘Top 20 Up and Coming Artists’. ‘Sirens’ continues the artist’s style, effortlessly fusing traditional Eastern art with Western traditions of action painting and graffiti. Inspired by the portrayal of the female form in art, the artist depicts Eastern-like women set within backgrounds filled with layers of rich colour. Patterns, ranging from geometric repetition to florals reminiscent of delicately decorated vases, are not solely confined to the background but often take on a new dimension, forming graceful kimonos, hairstyles or headpieces. www.metrogallery.com.au www.studio-hush.com www.onethirty3.com

TRACEY EMIN YOU DON’T BELIEVE IN LOVE BUT I BELIEVE IN YOU

‘I’m not drawn to the erotic. I’m confused by it. There is very little in my life that is sexual or erotic. It’s more to do with memory. I’m more interested in love.’ (Tracey Emin, Art News, May 2012) White Cube São Paolo is pleased to announce its inaugural exhibition, ‘You Don’t Believe in Love But I Believe in You’ by celebrated British artist Tracey Emin. A versatile modern day expressionist, Emin’s intensely personal work blurs the boundaries between art and life. For this exhibition – her first in Brazil – she will present new works in a wide range of media including neons, sculptures, paintings, gouaches, mono-print drawings and embroideries. Tracey Emin You Don’t Believe in Love But I Believe in You 2 December 2012 - 23 February 2013 White Cube São Paulo is open Tuesday to Saturday 11am - 7pm. BJÖRK’S BASTARDS

Björk has just released Bastards, an album of remixed tracks from the highly acclaimed Biophilia. The album includes some of the remixes released in an eight-part series earlier this year selected by Björk and remastered for this album by Grammy-nominee Mandy Parnell. Bastards features collaborations with artists and producers specifically chosen by Björk for this project including Current Value, Death Grips, Hudson Mohawke, Alva Noto, Matthew Herbert, Omar Souleyman, 16-bit, These New Puritans, and The Slips.

“I felt it important to gather together the essence of the remixes,” said Björk of the project, “so I picked a quarter of them for one cd for people who are perhaps not too sassy downloaders or don’t have the time or energy to partake in the hunter-gathering rituals of the internet. I was incredibly impressed by how the core of the mixes took Biophilia somewhere else while still keeping its character, and like they so often do when at their best: the remixes gave the songs more beats; legs to dance on! I spent some time editing together not necessarily the best ones but the ones that made the strongest whole.” Both the original Biophilia and Bastards will be available on 12” vinyl as well as CD and digital download. SCOTT WALKER

Scott Walker will finally release Bish Bosch this December, his long-awaited and first studio album since 2006’s The Drift. Since the 1960s, Scott Walker has scaled the heights of pop superstardom, produced some of the most revered solo albums of the late sixties, coasted on his laurels during the seventies, then metamorphosed into something very different. The music he has been making at his own pace since the early eighties might be utterly estranged from the songs that made him a household name, but they stem from the privacy he requires to write this complex and hugely inventive music. Bish Bosch is the latest in Scott’s discography to pursue the line of inquiry he began back in 1978, with his four devastatingly original songs on the Walker Brothers’ swansong, Nite Flights, and continuing through Climate of Hunter (1984), Tilt (1995), The Drift (2006). He has continued to mature and develop in a late style utterly at odds with the music that made him a superstar, a lifetime ago, but which is totally honest, uncompromising and transcendent.

THE DOT MASTERS

The irony of stencilling piles of rubbish is not lost on us. Rubbish, we all do it... leave it out on the street, either once a week or at random times when consumption out strips our storage. For many it’s their only contribution to the public space. We all contribute to this shifting sea of street sculpture with the rhythms of the weekly bin round. Its an ordered chaos, of suddenly unowned & worthless things.

‘High Class Trash’, a show of rubbish currently being shown in Norway at the Reedprojects Gallery contrasts high fashion and refuse, used spray-cans, bottles and paint markers in cast out Selfridges, Hermes and Chanel carrier bags, in an instantly recognizable photo real stencil style that is typical of the Dotmasters work. The pop art parallels are not taken too seriously in these Warhol meets Cheryl Cole modern icons of trash that combine littering and vandalism, giving you two crimes for the price of one. www.dotmaster.co.uk

ANTHONY LISTER UNSLUNG HEROES

The brightest international talent emerging from street art takes over both The Outsiders galleries simultaneously this November and December for a tour de force exhibition, Unslung Heroes. For his all-new show, Anthony Lister – consistently described as “Australia’s best contemporary artist” – has used his sketchbook featuring portraits of hip hedonistic revellers, drawn at revels he’s attended, for inspiration.

GREAT ECLECTIC

As an artist: GREATeclectic blends the most abstractly familiar elements of life – love, envy, wealth, wrath, perception, desire, greed, necessity, lust, identity, indulgence, ideals, ego, morals, said bankruptcy, and fears – with the rawest veneer of famous faces. His pieces are pastiches – whole in-and-of themselves but even more so in context of one another. Pop & Politics are alive and well-contented bedfellows in this world. The personal space stands as the preeminent public place of judgment. Shadows dance in rigid rhythmic formation with neon strobes. The entire world coalesces into a kaleidoscopic cultural landscape… where we are presented with our own selves from before the mass-mediated mirror of Pop life. His art lives, loves, laughs, lauds, lambastes, legislates, and promulgates on behalf of true Pop. It unravels the American tapestry because we were wound too tightly; it dims the lights because they blind so brightly; it hearkens to the dawn though it heralds nightly; and all it takes is a liberated lid to refresh the mind and see what I see: if you want to see a sad boy shine – pay him; if you want to see a sad boy smile – pay attention.
