3 Additions to 3 Mid Century Homes
The Hideout The Hideout is a remodel/ addition to a 60’s era ranch home in Westlake Hills. The home’s size was doubled through the insertion of a multi level structure into the center of the existing house. The project sits on a precipitous site bordering a wet weather creek. The existing house lended a kind of treehouse feel and we expanded on that idea with our addition design. The design language of the addition is decidedly ‘retro’ as it was our desire to weave the new work into the old as well as keep the structure tied into the fabric of the neighborhood. The home features a 700sf elevated terrace connecting the Kitchen to the rear yard and pool. Materials include locally quarried limestone and plantation grown cypress siding to blend with the existing 8” vertical plank cedar. Dement Harris Design function as both the designer and builder for this custom project.

This is a remodel/ addition to a 50’s era ranch home in Rollingwood. The home is owned by a local interior designer with an eye for funk. The project encloses a former garage to complete a courtyard of the former driveway. It also incorporates the addition of a two story screen porch and an attached studio space. Materials include massranduba siding and galv. metal.

Garner Avenue Townhomes This is an urban infill project in central Austin. It was constructed to sell and dement harris was a development parter as well as the Architect These attached townhomes reside on two +-5500 sf lots in a neighborhood of mixed ages and styles of homes. The project has been given a 5 star rating by the Austin Energy Green Building Program

A Modern Planbook various infill designs completed for local developers for use on central austin redevelopment lots. All of the homes use simple geometry and a simple exterior material palette. All are designed site specific and their layouts are all intended to give them maximum use of indoor/ outdoor connection while maintaining their privacy and the privacy of their neighbors.
