In an interview with radio presenter Zane Lowe on Apple Music, Eilish explained what the song meant to her: “You know this song is very, very up for interpretation. I’m very curious to see what people get from it and also what they feel when they hear it. It was very fun to complete. It was fun to record. I feel like you can hear it. I feel that I sound very much like… I’m just fucking around. I’m just joking. It’s like, come on. It’s so real. I feel like a natural, and don’t take me seriously, you know? I love it.”
“Therefore I Am” and its title references French philosopher and mathematician René Descartes and his infamous statement “Cogito, ergo sum”, which translates to “I think, therefore I am.” The track features Billie challenging listeners and challenging a higher power “you think that you’re the man / I think, therefore I am”.Billie also pokes fun at the media and interviews and articles that “remain unremarkable”.
“Therefore I Am” is the latest track from American singer and song writer Billie Eilish and is confirmed to be a track on the singer’s upcoming second album. “Therefore I Am” is a dark pop song written by Eilish and her brother Finneas, who also produced the song (as with all of Billie’s tracks). The song was released on the 12th November 2020 through Darkroom Records and Interscope Records.
