GIVING BACK ON A MISSION In addition to their efforts spent on the court, the Northwestern State volleyball team has made significant contributions by helping better the lives of others. This year, senior Mackenzie Neely (top right, bottom left) took three mission trips including two trips to Haiti where she helped the International Medical Relief in multiple cities affected by the 2010 earthquake. She also traveled to Tanzania. Fellow senior Emily Johnson (top left, middle left) took a mission trip of her own to Honduras where she assisted in providing medical help and counseling to those needing it. Redshirt junior Caiti O’Connell also spent her summer doing an internship with the Fellowship of Christian Athletes’ volleyball section working in the community.

2014 SHAPING UP TO BE A THRILLER

The Northwestern State volleyball season reached unprecedented heights in 2013 seizing 21 wins, the most since the program moved to Division I.

NSU volleyball caught fire winning 20 of its final 24 games including two separate win streaks of five or more games. In the process, the squad secured the No. 2 seed at the Southland Conference Tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas. With two consecutive sweeps of McNeese and Houston Baptist, NSU captured its second and third Southland tournament wins in program history advancing to the championship match in the process. In the championship, NSU put Central Arkansas’ 21 match win streak to the test, pushing the Sugar Bears to five sets before falling just three points short. After the season, the squad raked up numerous accolades including Keelie Arneson who was named the Southland Conference Libero of the Year and Student Athlete of the Year. Ashley Elrod added to the offseason recognition being named the league’s freshman of the year after starting all but two matches. Arneson was also named to the 2013 All-Louisiana team alongside teammates Stacey DiFrancesco, Ashley Elrod and Caiti O’Connell.

Reigning Southland Conference Libero of the Year Keelie Arneson was named first-team preseason All-Southland Conference in 2014.

“We’ve always maintained that individual awards are essentially team awards,” fifth-year head coach Hugh Hernesman said. “They don’t come unless you have a great cast around you and if you’re not winning.” Off the court, NSU was one of only four Southland Conference schools to receive the AVCA Team Academic Award after posting a 3.61 team GPA during 2012-13. “This group has worked extremely hard to be in this situation and it hasn’t been easy,” Hernesman said. “But it’s definitely worth it now that we’re here. Now the challenge is to raise the bar once again and keep the drive to become great.” The squad returns 12 letter winners and welcomes three freshman in hopes of continuing the record-breaking tradition the Hernesman’s have established. “I’ve been consistent with this since our arrival; our number one program goal is to win the conference tournament and play in the NCAA Tournament,” Hernesman said. “It has been that every year and for the last couple years, we’ve felt we’ve had the talent to put it all together.” Hernesman’s squad will have its opportunity to showcase itself against some of the nation’s premier programs. The 2014 slate features matches against four opponents who finished in 2013’s top 100 standings including Missouri (5), Central Arkansas (46), Auburn (65) and Baylor (94). First-team preseason all-conference member and senior Stacey DiFrancesco was named to the Southland Conference All-Time Volleyball Honor Roll in 2013.

Another highly anticipated match takes place on Sept. 6 when Northwestern State and Louisiana-Lafayette square off for the 35th overall time and first since 2011. NSU owns an 18-16 advantage in the rivalry.

In total, the Lady Demons spend their first 15 matches on the road highlighted by trips to Denton, Texas (North Texas Invitational), Lafayette (Sawyer Camillo Memorial Classic), Starkville, Miss. (Maroon Classic), Waco, Texas (vs. Baylor) and Auburn, Ala. (War Eagle Classic) before opening conference play with trips to McNeese State and Nicholls.

When NSU finally returns to Prather Coliseum on Oct. 2, it will be to a venue that has been home to one of the league’s premier home court advantages. Over their last 20 games at Prather, dating back to the end of the 2011 season, the Lady Demons have posted a 17-3 record.

Senior Stacey DiFrancesco’s continued growth of her game combined Mackenzie Neely with senior Mackenzie Neely’s serving and attacking abilities have provided a true one-two punch. Alongside DiFrancesco, redshirt junior Caiti O’Connell gave NSU an additional right side presence as a proven attacker. Not to be overlooked, Lauren Agan used this spring to up her game to another level as the sophomore developed into a truly dominant attacker. One of the biggest story lines from the group may be sophomore Ashley Elrod, who as the Southland Conference’s Freshman of the Year, provided scoring from the service line as well as a reliable back court defender. Heading into 2014, freshman Aubrey Davis is also expected to be a player to watch. Touted as dynamic athlete, the first-year Lady Demon has boasted tremendous development at the club level prior to arriving in Natchitoches. There will not be a shortage of depth at middle blocker with high competition expected between senior Vanessa Coleman, junior Glynna Johnson and junior Amanda Kunz. Coleman comes off a quicker than expected recovery from back surgery and possesses a trendous knowledge of the game and is deadly for opponents in transition. Johnson has made steady progress offensively and can certainly make an impact offensively and as a blocker. Kunz put forth a strong offseason effort and has developed as a physical blocker with tremendous confidence. Lastly, the libero and defensive specialist grouping is expected to be the strongest of the Hernesman era. Senior Keelie Arneson, sophomore Bailey Martin, redshirt frehman Danielle Sellari and freshman Kylie Spencer will battle for time with NSU choosing between a 5-1 or 6-2 offensive scheme. Arneson enters her final year as the most decorated libero in program history after setting the school record in digs just 11 matches into her junior year. Martin continues to hold a reputation for tenacious work ethic earning praise from her peers and coaches. Despite limited opportunities for Sellari a year ago, the redshirt freshman continued making strides within the program and excellent in spring matches. Spencer, despite her youth, brings significant talent and potential possessing a natural gift for the game.

Hugh Hernesman 5th Season at NSU • 8th Season Overall University of Wisconsin-Whitewater (1995) Since taking over as co-head coach in 2010, Hugh Hernesman has rebuilt the Lady Demons’ volleyball program from scratch alongside his wife and co-head coach Stephanie. The duo has led Northwestern State to consecutive 20-win seasons each of the last two years. In their four seasons at the helm of NSU Volleyball, only two schools in all four of NCAA Division I volleyball have improved their RPI more than NSU- a 192 point difference from the season before Hernesman’s arrival. Two of his recruits, Arneson and DiFrancesco, earned All-Louisiana First-Team accolades in addition to Co-Libero of the Year and Freshman of the Year, respectively, in their very first year in the program. Additionally, DiFrancesco became the first Lady Demon to win Southland Conference Freshman of the Year in program history and also made it on the All-Conference Second-Team. The Hernesman’s have made NSU one of the most elite volleyball programs’ in the state. The Lady Demons have posted an impressive 22-1 record against Louisiana opponents in the last three seasons, including wins over Louisiana Tech, McNeese State, New Orleans, Nicholls and Southeastern Louisiana. In 2010, NSU had one of the biggest turnarounds in the nation with 10 more wins than the previous season. Only three other schools in the nation had improved their win total more than NSU that 2010 season. Laranda Spann was named to the LSWA 2nd Team for her efforts. Academically, the program has received the AVCA Team Academic Award three consecutive years (2011, ‘12 and ‘13); an accolade given for posting a team GPA over 3.30. Between 2010-2013, 43 of 53 players made the Southland Conference Commissioner’s Honor Roll. In addition to establishing a reputation of winning within the conference, Hernesman’s squads do not shy away from any competition and always try to play the best programs they can within the region. Since 2010, NSU has taken part in tournaments at Arkansas State, Samford, Central Arkansas, Southern Miss, Texas Tech, Texas State, Arkansas, UT-Arlington, Stephen F. Austin, North Texas and Baylor. Hernesman arrived at NSU after serving three seasons as the top assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at Ball State and helped coach the 2008 and 2009 teams to the Mid-American Conference Tournament, where the Cardinals lost to the eventual champions both seasons. In three years, they coached two All-MAC performers as well as developed two players that were named to the 2008 All-MAC Freshman team. They also were a major factor in boasting Ball State’s RPI from No. 254 in their first season in 2007, to No. 50 in 2010. Prior to joining the Ball State staff, Hugh was joined by Stephanie to transform Hardin-Simmons into a conference champion in just three seasons. He was named the American Southwest Conference West Division Coach of the Year in both the 2005 and 2006 seasons. Hernesman coached two ASC West Division Players of the Year, two league newcomers of the year, 10 ASC All-Conference selections and a first team Academic All-American. He also guided his team to the 2006 ASC tournament championship and the program’s first ever NCAA Tournament appearance. His 2005 team won the ASC West Division title and was an ASC tournament runner-up. His program won the AVCA Team Academic Award for the 2004-05 sports calendar year. Hugh began his collegiate coaching career at Wisconsin-Whitewater in 1995 and helped guide the Warhawks to nine consecutive NCAA Division III Tournament appearances, including four Final Four appearances (1995, 2000, 2001, 2002) and the 2002 National Championship. Lindsey Buteyn 2ND Season at NSU • Alabama (2009)

Former University of Alabama standout Lindsey Buteyn is in her second year as Lady Demon Volleyball graduate assistant, after being a vital coaching role during the breakout 21-win season in 2013.

The Madison, Wis., native was a four-year letter winner and a team co-captain during her senior campaign in the Fall of 2008.

As a senior, the middle blocker appeared in all 29 matches while registering 189 kills (1.80 k/set) in 485 attempts. Buteyn aided in Alabama’s participation in the NCAA tournament for three straight seasons (2005-’07) while earning Southeastern Conference Academic Honor Roll accolades all four years. After Alabama, Buteyn played professionally for a year with the VC-Tirol Volleyball league, a member of the Austrian First League, where her performance on the court helped maintain the team’s standing in the league. Buteyn returned to the states and spent the 2010 season with the Tusculoum College Lady Pioneers as a volunteer assistant where she aided in TC’s 25-7 record, a second place finish in the South Atlantic Conference and a NCAA Division II tournament appearance. Buteyn began her coaching career as an assistant for the 18U Red squad as part of the Capital Volleyball Academy in Madison. She became head coach of the 15U team in 2011 and spent two seasons with the squad. Buteyn also aided in the organization of all tournaments, as well as coordination of the 14 and under youth development programs. In high school, Buteyn earned two-time all conference and fourth-team all-state honors. She helped guide Waupun School to back-to-back state championships and led WHS to a PrepVolleyball.com national ranking (#8) as a junior. The middle blocker was named to the state all-tournament team and also lettered in basketball (three years) and track & field (four years). She was a sectional qualifier in the 200m, 400m and 800m runs. Buteyn played for Wisconsin Power club team (formerly Club Breakout) that appeared in three straight Junior Olympic Championships including a ninth place national finish in 2003. The daughter of Dean and Priscilla Buteyn, she graduated from Alabama in 2009 with a degree in communications. She is studying towards a master’s degree in health and human performance at NSU.

ZACH WEINBERG 1st Season at NSU • OHIO (2012)

After four years as a student assistant coach at Ohio University, Zach Weinberg enters his first season as graduate assistant for the Northwestern State volleyball team.

“We’re thrilled to add Zach to our staff. He comes highly recommended from a coach that is a very good friend of mine at a very successful program that I highly respect,” said Hugh Hernesman. “Zach brings a strong work ethic, a great video and statistical background and most importantly, a real desire to coach at this level. Additionally, we believe that Zach will bring some new ideas and perspectives as we continue to strive towards being one of the top programs in the Southland Conference and the region.” Under sixth-year head coach Ryan Theis, Weinberg assisted with training, travel, statistics and the breakdown of film for team scout sessions each week. His assistance led the Bobcats to three MAC tournament championships and NCAA tournament runs. “Zach is an extremely dedicated and hard working person,” said Theis. “I believe he’ll be a valuable asset and tremendous fit for Northwestern State Volleyball.” On the side, Weinberg served as president, head coach and captain of the men’s club volleyball team, as well as head coach in the ALETA Aces, an advanced training volleyball club in southeastern Ohio. Weinberg graduated with a bachelor of science in sport management in March of 2012 and spent a year working in ticketing for the Orlando Magic before returning home to Voorhees, N.J., to take over the second year program at Camden Catholic High School in Cherry Hill, N.J. The Fighting Irish went 1-21 in their inaugural season, but improved to 9-10 under Weinberg and qualified for a spot in the New Jersey Non-Public state tournament. Four of his student-athletes earned all-conference honors. Weinberg will be studying towards a master of science degree in health and human performance at NSU.

DREW ESCHETE 1st Season at NSU •

Drew Eschete begins his first season on the Northwestern State athletic training staff. Eschete will handle the athletic training duties for the Lady Demon volleyball team. Eschete, a native of Thibodaux, is a 2013 graduate of Nicholls State University where he worked with football, men’s basketball, track and field and soccer.

During the 2012 summer, he interned with the New Orleans Saints while also assisting with the Manning Passing Academy. Eschete is working towards his master’s degree in health and human performance.

Now in its sixth decade of service, the Southland Conference continues to be a model of innovation, stability and consistent achievement as it celebrates the academic and athletic accomplishments of its member institutions. Having commemorated its 50th anniversary in 2013, the Southland Conference has transformed itself into a dynamic and respected consortium of 13 member universities in three states. Beginning with a historic meeting of five institutions in Dallas on March 15, 1963, the Southland Conference set on an extraordinary course that has proven successful well into its five decades of existence. The successful transformation continues, as the Southland Conference welcomed four additional members in 2013: Abilene Christian University, Houston Baptist University, the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, and the University of New Orleans. In addition to its newest members, the Southland also consists of the University of Central Arkansas, Lamar University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Sam Houston State University, Southeastern Louisiana University, Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. All told, the membership of the Southland encompasses nearly 140,000 current students and an alumni base of nearly 800,000. Famous alums from current Southland Conference schools include former CBS news anchor Dan Rather (Sam Houston State), NBA executive Joe Dumars (McNeese State), ABC news anchor Robin Roberts (Southeastern Louisiana), Major League Baseball star Wade Miley (Southeastern Louisiana), NBA legend Scottie Pippen (Central Arkansas), and track and field Olympians Kenta Bell (Northwestern State), and Bobby Morrow and Billy Olson (both Abilene Christian). The Southland sponsors 17 championship sports, all at the NCAA Division I level. The eight men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, tennis, and indoor and outdoor track and field. The women compete for nine championships in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and field, and volleyball. The conference earns automatic qualification to NCAA championships in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s golf, women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, and volleyball. Continuing its tradition of innovation, the league launched the Southland Conference Television Network in the fall of 2008 and has broadcast more than 160 events. The network has expanded its reach to roughly 13 million households throughout Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma in recent years, and has also gained national viewership through ESPN3 and Fox College Sports. In its first six years, the network has received recognition for its work, earning numerous College Sports Media and Telly Awards. The Southland Conference, in conjunction with the city of Frisco, Texas, and Hunt Sports Group, also serves as the host to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Game in Frisco, which has been home to the conference headquarters since 2006. The game is played at Frisco’s Toyota Stadium, and after a successful three-year run, the partnership was rewarded with a three-year renewal to serve as the national championship host site through the 2015 season.

RECORD SETTING SUCCESS IN 2013

The Northwestern State volleyball season reached unprecedented heights in 2013 seizing 21 wins, the most since the program moved to Division I. NSU volleyball caught fire winning 20 of its final 24 games including two separate win streaks of five or more games.

In the process, the squad secured the No. 2 seed at the Southland Conference Tournament in Corpus Christi, Texas.

Dr. Darlene Williams campaign, which concluded in 2012, raised more than $36 million, surpassing a goal of $25 million. That funding included the establishment of numerous endowed chairs and professorships to enhance academic programs at the university. In addition to the private funding, Northwestern State has received more grant monies in recent years from state and federal agencies and private foundations than at any time since its founding in 1884. Webb has also expanded the university’s outreach by spearheading the development at NSU of the largest electronic education and distance learning network of any university in Louisiana. Northwestern State offers courses and 34 accredited degree programs to students across the nation and world through Internet and compressed video. Several university online programs have been rated as being among the best buys in the United States. Millions of dollars have been obtained during Webb’s presidency for new and renovated facilities. The new facilities include the Wellness, Recreation and Activity Center, Student Services Center and University Place I and II. Morrison Hall, the Family and Consumer Sciences Building, Williamson Hall, Russell Hall and Caspari Hall have been completely renovated and restored. Northwestern State’s academic programs and athletic teams continue to receive positive national recognition. The Computer Information Systems program has won 12 national championships in academic competition over the past 12 years. The university achieved Tier I status in the U.S. News and World Report ranking of regional universities on two occasions. The master’s program in nursing was rated as one of the Top 100 by U.S. News. A new Doctor of Nursing Practice program was created along with a Post Master’s Certificate in Global Security and Intelligence and a master’s in homeland security. The university has added new undergraduate academic programs in theatre, criminal justice, unified public safety administration, organizational leadership, addiction studies, liberal arts, general studies, communication and allied health under Webb. Northwestern State is looking to add and enhance academic programs that meet the state’s workforce development needs. Several faculty earned prestigious Fulbright Fellowships to teach internationally and Northwestern State students have received several of the top scholarships awarded for graduate studies. Demon and Lady Demon athletic teams have won team conference championships in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, football, soccer, softball and women’s tennis and had numerous All-Americans in men’s and women’s track and field. Student-athletes at Northwestern State also excel academically as the university has the state’s top five-year average among Louisiana Division I Football Championship Subdivision schools in the NCAA’s Graduation Success Rate study. Northwestern State is among the Southland Conference leaders in graduation rates. The athletic program has also recorded strong results on the NCAA Academic Progress Report led by state and Southland Conference-best scores by the men’s basketball program in the latest survey. A former center on the Northwestern football team, Webb is an avid supporter of the university’s athletic programs and has held positions of leadership at the national level in intercollegiate athletics. He has served as chair of the board of directors of the Southland Conference and has been a member of the prestigious NCAA Executive Council and the NCAA Division I Board of Directors that oversee all major policy decisions by the governing body for major college sports. He served as the Southland Conference representative on the NCAA Presidential Advisory Group. A 1965 graduate of Northwestern in mathematics and business education, Webb earned a master of science degree in mathematics from NSU in 1966. He received a doctorate in education from the University of Southern Mississippi in 1971 with a concentration in mathematics and research. Webb was a member of the faculty of Longwood College in Farmville, Va, from 1966 until 1974. He served as Director of Higher Education and Teacher Certification in the Louisiana Department of Education from 1974 through 1976. He moved to Southeastern Louisiana University in 1976 and in 13 years there held positions as director of institutional research, EEO officer, registrar and member of the mathematics faculty. He became Dean of Instruction and Graduate Studies and professor of mathematics at Northwestern in 1989. In that position, he was responsible for campus-wide policy development, planning, advancement, and review of both graduate and undergraduate programs. While Webb was in that position, graduate enrollment increased by 35 percent, and internal funding for faculty research increased by 200 percent. As dean, Webb proposed the concept for NSU’s successful Freshman Connection Program and served as a member of the writing team for a grant proposal that resulted in a five year, $1.7 million Title III grant to improve student retention. He also chaired the steering committee for NSU’s Self Study for the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools. He has been active in the community as a member of the board of directors of the Natchitoches Chamber of Commerce and as a member of the Association for the Preservation of Historic Natchitoches, the Natchitoches Historic Foundation, the Natchitoches-Northwestern Symphony Society, Rotary Club, and the First Baptist Church. Webb and his wife Brenda have two daughters, both honor graduates of Northwestern State. Tamara and her husband, former NSU All-America baseball pitcher Reggie Gatewood, live in Long Valley, N.J., with their children Tyler and Ava. Vice President • External Affairs Only a handful of people have served Northwestern State as long as Jerry Pierce has, and nobody has done so in a more understated manner. In his 50th year on the university’s staff, Pierce’s impact on NSU and the city of Natchitoches is indelible. He’s never wanted or gotten top billing, but consistently, he gets results to benefit the university. He is in his 23rd year as vice president of external affairs at Northwestern. A significant aspect of his job is oversight of intercollegiate athletics. Pierce works closely with athletic director Greg Burke and all NSU coaches and staff members to keep Northwestern athletics competing at a championship level week after week, month after month and year after year. Pierce is an avid tennis player who has been a member of USTA teams that have won more than a dozen state championships, five regional titles and one national championship. Well before moving into the executive position, Pierce had already served his alma mater, adopted hometown and state with distinction. In his role as vice president, he oversees university operations in athletics, alumni and development, public and media relations and NSU Athletic Council assists President Dr. Randall J. Webb in governmental affairs activities. Dr. Randall Webb In 1994, he was named one of Louisiana’s 20 most influential sports figures by the Times-Picayune. Also on the list were New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson, LSU athletic director Joe Dean and basketball coach Dale Brown, and Grambling football coaching legend Eddie Robinson. His salesmanship and managerial skills were instrumental in convincing Tri-Star Productions to film the 1989 smash hit movie Steel Magnolias, with an all-star cast including Julia Roberts, Sally Field and Dylan McDermott in Natchitoches and on the NSU campus. The movie’s impact on tourism in Natchitoches continues to resonate more than two decades later. Pierce is regarded as one of the most effective legislative liaisons for Louisiana’s higher education system. He is also a popular after dinner speaker and master of ceremonies who has spoken at hundreds of events since 1965. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Pierce is a member of the Journalism Department faculty. He is the author of one book and editor of two others and has written thousands of editorials, columns, features and other articles for newspapers and magazines. Pierce and his wife Regina, a teacher, live on Cane River Lake in Natchitoches. He has two sons, Randy and Rick, both NSU graduates; and three grandchildren, twins Evan and Amanda, 23, and Miranda, 12, and two stepchildren, Nicholas and Natalie.

Beginning his 19th year as director of athletics at Northwestern State, Greg Burke has received national acclaim for the job he’s done in his adopted hometown. Burke has been athletics director at Northwestern since Aug. 29, 1996, when his first day included speaking at the annual NSU/Independence Bowl Kickoff Luncheon. Burke is the longest serving AD at any Louisiana or Southland Conference institution. He has steered NSU athletics to many of its greatest accomplishments while overseeing a program that has fielded championship caliber teams in nearly all of the school’s NCAA Division I sports. Last February, he was presented the “Outstanding Contributions to Amateur Football Award” by the north Louisiana chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame. Two years ago, he was included among 29 winners of the Under Amour AD of the Year Award presented by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Burke was the 2010-11 president of the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association. He has begun a term on the NCAA Division I Committee on Academic Performance; Burke previously served on the prestigious NCAA Championships/Sports Management Cabinet. He previously served a four-year term on the NCAA Division I Football Issues Committee (1999-2002) and concurrently served a term on the eight-member NCAA FCS Committee that administers the national playoffs. Burke has served as a site supervisor for Football Championship Subdivision playoff games across the nation and he is regarded as one of the country’s premiere advocates of FCS football. Burke’s 17 years as athletic director include 37 Southland Conference regular-season or tournament championships, 61 All-American and Academic All-American student athletes, and three U.S. Olympic competitors. Twenty NSU teams have taken part in NCAA or WNIT postseason competition. All of the school’s athletic facilities have undergone nearly $7 million in improvements in the past four years. Burke spearheaded a $2 million series of sponsorships for new scoreboards installed for 2008-09 at all NSU athletic venues; the $700,000 Second Century Circle fencing project for athletic venues; and a $500,000 softball grandstand project completed earlier this year. NSU in 2004-05 became the first (and remains the only) Southland Conference member in the league’s five decades of history to sweep football, men’s basketball and baseball championships in the same athletic year. It’s been done only once in Southeastern Conference history, by Alabama in 1933-34, and only four times in Big Ten Conference history, the last time by Michigan State in 1979-80. Those accomplishments have come with one of the more modest athletic budgets in the state and conference. Burke’s management skill and fundraising ability have been pivotal. Burke has displayed a remarkable ability to hire dynamic head coaches. In just their second seasons, women’s basketball co-head coaches Brooke and Scott Stoehr guided NSU to the NCAA Tournament while baseball coach Lane Burroughs executed the best one-season turnaround in Southland Conference history and tied NSU’s school record. Anchors of the NSU department include current gead coaches Mike McConathy, Louisiana’s all-time career basketball wins leader; 2013 Louisiana softball coach of the Year Donald Pickett; Hugh and Stephanie Hernesman, who just led the volleyball program to its best two seasons in the 31-year history of the program; and Patric DuBois, whose Lady Demon tennis program has two Southland Conference titles in the past four years. Several other Burke hires had great success at Northwestern State that propelled them to national prominence in subsequent positions. From his first day on the job, Burke has stressed the importance of having a balanced athletic program. To that end, tremendous competitive strides have been made in women’s athletics under his guidance. Along with the aforementioned volleyball surge, NSU’s soccer program was the first in Louisiana to reach the NCAA Tournament. Softball and tennis made NCAA Tournament appearances in 2013, the second in four seasons for Lady Demon tennis, and softball returned in 2014. Burke has established a high standard for NSU Athletics in academic achievement and community service. The academic accomplishments are reflected annually in the NCAA’s APR and GSR studies. Community service by NSU student-athletes, coaches and staff more than doubled to over 5,000 hours in 2009-10 and has remained at that level. Burke spearheaded the adoption of the slogan “Great Tradition, Brighter Future” for NSU Athletics, and the creation of NSU Athletics “Cornerstones” for student-athletes: “Academic Achievement, Personal Responsibility, Competitive Success … Every Minute, Every Hour, Every Day!” In 2005, Burke was one of three recipients of the All-America Football Foundation’s Gen. Robert R. Neyland Outstanding Athletic Director Award and that same year, was also tabbed as one of two Natchitoches Parish Cenla Newsmakers of 2005 by the Alexandria Town Talk newspaper’s editorial staff. He received the 2006 “Outstanding Alumni Award” from his alma mater, Marlington High School in Alliance, Ohio, recognizing his community service and professional achievements. Burke became one of only 21 alumni honored since the award was instituted in 1982. Burke is a past president of the Natchitoches Kiwanis Club and remains active in that civic group. He has also been part of the steering committee for the Natchitoches Christmas Festival and is a former president of the Natchitoches Area Jaycees. He is involved with the American Heart Association and was 2010 March of Dimes chairman locally. His wife, Susu, is a Natchitoches native, NSU graduate and an elementary teacher. In charge of athletic media relations at his alma mater since January of 1989, Doug Ireland coordinates publicity efforts for Northwestern’s 14 intercollegiate sports teams through local, regional and national media outlets in print, broadcast, television and the internet. He also serves in the volunteer role of chairman of the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame. Ireland assumed that post in April 1990. His 1992 Demon Football Media Guide won “Best in the Nation” in FCS Division from the College Sports Information Directors of America. A 1997 story on Joe Delaney, “The Guy We Called Joe D,” won a national second-place award in a COSIDA writing contest. Ireland has won numerous awards as SID from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. He was recently awarded the Distinguished American Award” by the S.M. McNaughton Chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. Several of his assistant SIDs and graduate assistants have advanced to prominence in media fields. Former NSU sports information staffers under Ireland include Bruce Ludlow, assistant commissioner of the Southland Conference for media relations; Bill Magrath, media relations manager for the Sports Business Daily; Mike Morrison, co-editor of the ESPN Information Please Almanac; Daucy Crizer, assistant AD and business manager at Lamar; Erik Cox, SID at Lamar; Dart Volz, former SID at Southeastern Louisiana; Melissa Reynaud, former assistant SID at LSU; Kenny Lannou, SID at Kansas State; and Troy Mitchell, SID at Henderson State. Dustin Eubanks, NSU’s director of NCAA compliance, worked in the NSU SID office as a graduate assistant and for two years as the fulltime assistant, and Adam Jonson, NSU’s associate athletic director was a student and graduate assistant in the SID office. In 1981-82, while an undergraduate at Northwestern, Ireland worked as chief of the Shreveport Times Natchitoches Bureau, coordinating news coverage of an eight-parish region along the Red River. From 1982-85, he was assistant SID at Southwestern Louisiana, working with a men’s basketball program that made three straight postseason tournament appearances. He won CoSIDA publications and writing awards while at USL. Ireland was the sports editor of the Natchitoches Times in 1985-86 and attended graduate school at Northeast Louisiana before joining the Alexandria Town Talk sports staff in 1987. In 18 months at the Town Talk, he covered both NSU and LSU sports and won 15 writing awards from the Louisiana Sports Writers’ Association. In 2001, the LSWA presented its prestigious Mac Russo Award to Ireland for his contributions to the organization. In 1999, Ireland was awarded honorary membership in the Graduate N Club at NSU by the university’s group of athletic lettermen for his service to Northwestern and its athletic program, and in 2003 he was given full membership. He was appointed by President Dr. Randall Webb to serve a two-year term on the inaugural University Planning Council in 1997-99. In 2008, he was awarded the the National Football Foundation “Distinguished American” award and in 2012 he was honored by the Alexandria Town talk by being named the “CENLA Sportsman of the Year” award for his work as an SID and toward the completion of the $23 million Hall of Fame Museum. A member of the Blue Key National Honor Fraternity and a student government senator while completing a journalism degree from Northwestern, Ireland was editor of the student newspaper “Current Sauce” as a sophomore before going to work for the Shreveport Times. He was an all-district baseball player and the student body president at Jonesboro-Hodge High School, where he was a wingback for the Tigers’ 1977 Class AA state football finalists coached by the late Don Shows.

Matthew Fowler

Assistant Sports Information Director Matthew Fowler, in his seventh year as a member of the Northwestern State

sports information staff, was named assistant sports information director in June 2012. Since being hired as the assistant SID, Fowler has been the primary contact for women’s basketball, baseball and soccer programs, as well as oversight of the Lady Demon volleyball team. He is the secondary contact for NSU’s football, men’s basketball and softball teams. He is the official scorer and statistician for football, men’s and women’s basketball, soccer and baseball teams, and is in charge of all publications that are produced out of the sports information office. His 2014 baseball media guide took second place in the Division III category ofthe Louisiana Sports Writers Association media guide contest, and his 2012-13 women’s basketball media guide was awarded third the year before. He was also a part of the men’s first place feat in 2013 and third place win in 2014. In 2010, Fowler became the fourth NSU student assistant to receive the prestigious Ace Higgins Award that is presented annually by the Louisiana Sports Writers Association to the outstanding student assistant SID in the state. Fowler, a Homer native, graduated from NSU in 2011 with a bachelor’s degree in general studies with a concentration in arts and communication. He also minored in sports management. Prior to joining the sports information staff as a student worker, Fowler was a member of the Spirit of Northwestern marching band as a trumpet player. He was also very active in campus activities including serving as President of the Baptist Christian Ministry and participating in intramural athletics. At Homer High School, Fowler was Claiborne Parish student of the year in his senior year and valedictorian of his graduating class. Fowler married Whitney Brandon, a NSU graduate and a Florien native who is a teacher at Natchitoches Central High School. They celebrated their second anniversary in June.

Andrew Pate is in his first season as a graduate assistant for the Northwestern State sports information staff. Pate is the primary media contact for the Lady Demon softball and volleyball programs and the Lady Demon and Demon Cross Country teams. Before coming to NSU, Pate worked as Sports Information intern with Sam Houston State during the spring semester. While at SHSU, Pate served as the contact for men’s and women’s track & field while assisting in coverage of men’s and women’s basketball, softball and baseball. Pate was also responsible for managing several key projects including the overhaul of the university’s Hall of Honor website and production of all-time win-loss results for baseball and softball. Pate, a San Angelo, Tex. native, graduated from the University of Houston in 2013 with a bachelor’s degree in Communication including a concentration in Public Relations and a minor in Kinesiology. While at Houston, Pate served as Sports Editor for the student newspaper, “The Daily Cougar” as well as golf beat reporter. He also held several leadership roles as a member of the Sigma Chi Fraternity. Pate is the son of Robert and Marilyn and has one younger sister Allison. He is currently working towards a master’s degree in Health and Human Performance at NSU.

Jody BISCOE

Faculty Athletic Representative Jody Biscoe is Associate Professor of Psychology and Addiction Studies at Northwestern State, where he is the coordinator for the undergraduate Addiction Studies, and Substance Abuse/Prevention concentrations. Since 2006, he has served as Faculty Athletic Representative for NSU. This role includes the chair of the NSU Athletic Council. Since 2006, Northwestern State University has made numerous paradigm shifts in how it addresses the needs of student-athletes; however, one thing has been consistent in that its student-athletes are winners on the field and in the classroom. All have heard about higher educational institutions being penalized by the NCAA for academic improprieties. NSU has attempted to be a model program of “Doing Things the Right Way,” by following the Athletic Department motto: Great Tradition – Brighter Future. This past year, NSU was one of only four schools in the State of Louisiana that did not receive any penalties for low NCAA Academic Progress Rates (APR) with baseball, soccer, softball, tennis, women’s indoor & outdoor track, and volleyball rating in the top three in the Southland Conference. Among the 40 Northwestern State student-athletes and athletic staff members who graduated in spring 2010, 10 of the 20 receiving undergraduate degrees graduated either cum laude or magna cum laude. Graduation rates of student-athletes in soccer, volleyball, men’s basketball, baseball and football ranked in the top four of the Conference. These accomplishments could not have been achieved without the support and efforts of the student-athletes, coaches, faculty, and administration. Also, Jody is the Director for the Louisiana Addiction Technology Transfer Center at NSU. He has served on the National Addiction Technology Transfer Center’s (ATTC) - Practice and National Leadership Institute Committee. In addition, he has coordinated five nationally recognized leadership institutes for Louisiana, Texas and New Mexico and a member of the National ATTC Leadership Directors Committee. Recently, he was appointed to the NAADAC - National Addiction Studies & Standards Collaborative Committee. This past year, Jody was selected to serve on the United States Health and Human Services – Substance Abuse & Mental Health Service Administration Expert Panel concerning workforce issues. Jody’s married to his wife, Veronica (Roni), an avid runner, and daughter Roxy is a senior co-captain on the varsity cheerleading squad and Lady Tiger basketball team at St. Mary’s School. Dustin EUBANKS

Dustin Eubanks is in his 14th year in the NSU athletic department and his 13th year at the helm of the compliance duties, keeping all athletic personnel current and in accordance with NCAA and Southland Conference guidelines. A 1996 education graduate of Northwestern, the 38-year-old avid fan of all teams that hail from Pittsburgh seized an opportunity to serve as a graduate assistant in the sports information department at Northwestern while beginning the pursuit of his master’s degree in health and physical education (concentration in sports administration), which he obtained in May of 2003, and was impressive enough to earn a promotion to full-time status in November 1998. Eubanks is married to the former Dawn Hornsby of Branch and the couple has two daughters, Emilie and Taylor Nicole. The sisters share the same birthdate. Dustin and Dawn, who is the Associate Director of Financial Aid at NSU, celebrated their 11th wedding anniversary this summer

Carrie GREENE

Carrie Greene, a two-year Academic All-Southland Conference soccer standout for Northwestern State in 2005-06, from Arlington, TX, now serves as academic coordinator in the Johnnie Emmons Athletic Study Center at NSU as well as being the Senior Woman Administrator. Greene served as an intern in the Academic Services and CHAMPS/Life Skills program in January 2009, while also completing her second season as a graduate assistant soccer coach and finishing work on her master’s of science in sport administration. She was a magna cum laude graduate of NSU in August 2007 in business administration, and also was a key contributor on the Lady Demons’ 2005 NCAA Tournament team that won the Southland Conference Tournament. Greene is the academic coordinator for the sports of soccer, women’s basketball, men’s and women’s track, volleyball, and veteran football. She also heads the Enhanced Academic Program which provides additional help for student-athletes and aids in maintaining a healthy and successful balance between academics and athletics. Greene served an internship in the summer of 2008 with the Missouri Sports Hall of Fame, helping stage events supporting a Nationwide Tour golf tournament co-sponsored by the Hall. She also assisted in daily operations of the museum in Springfield, Mo., and helped stage the Missouri High School Basketball All-Stars Game. Greene was a member of Alpha Lambda Delta honors society from 2005-2007, graduating in three years with a 3.74 grade point average. She made the SLC Commissioners’ Academic Honor Roll in the last three seasons she competed for NSU, capped by a 2006 season in which her defense helped the Lady Demons set a school record for least goals allowed per game. Greene graduated with her Masters of Science in Sport Administration with a 4.0 GPA in May 2009. Formerly, Carrie Crowell, she and David Greene, NSU’s Director of Facilities were married in June. David GREENE David Greene is in his first season as the Director of Athletic Facilities and Game Operations for Northwestern State. His primary responsibilities involved the upkeep and maintenance of NSU’s athletic facilities, along with acting as the liaison for event and game operations. The NSU alumnus was a biology teacher at Natchitoches Central High School, where he coached football and soccer, before taking over as the director of facilities. Prior to his year at NCHS, he spent three years at Lakeview High School where he was named the Natchitoches Parish and Lakeview High School Teacher of the Year. He also coached football, baseball and softball at LHS, where he founded the Lakeview Beautification Program. Greene earned his bachelor’s degree in biology (2008) and master’s degree (2012) in teaching, both from Northwestern State. Roxanne Freeman began working at NSU in 1983 as an accounting clerk in business affairs. She transferred to the athletic department as football/baseball/track secretary and served under Sam Goodwin, Leon Johnson and several baseball coaches for eight seasons before graduating with a B.S. in accounting in May 1995. Freeman then became the compliance coordinator and academic advisor during a three-year span before leaving in 1998. She returned to NSU in the Fall of 2000 in her current position as Business Manager where she now serves as liaison between the athletic department and business affairs. She has one son, Aaron Pizani, who is also a NSU alum.

Jonson previously spent just over two years as Assistant Marketing Director for Ticket Operations at NSU before serving the past two years as Assistant Athletic Director for Ticketing and Operations at the University of Louisiana at Monroe. He also worked as the Assistant Director of Athletics Media Relations at the University of North Florida for one year. At ULM, Jonson provided oversight for the athletic communications and ticketing offices while assisting in marketing and fundraising activities. He helped establish new attendance records for several sports, including a season-long baseball tally that ranked in the top 40 nationally in 2012 and a single-game crowd of more than 31,000 for a nationally televised football game against Baylor. In addition to revamping office organization and operational structures, ticket revenue soared by more than 44 percent under Jonson’s watch. Other initiatives included leading a rebranding campaign for the student section at basketball, implementing a department-wide social media strategy, establishing a “Faith & Family” event and adding it to the title sponsor inventory and structuring new giving level requirements for premium areas to result in more than $100,000 in new revenue. In his first full-time role at NSU, Jonson worked in an external staff that notched record attainment figures. Focusing on all aspects of ticket operations, he also managed the student loyalty program, implemented new procedures for complimentary tickets to further ensure NCAA compliance and spearheaded plans for the current gameday parking structure to create new revenue streams. Beginning as a student worker in the NSU sports information office, Jonson completed his masters of science in sport administration at NSU with a 4.0 gpa after earning his bachelors of science in business administration as a summa cum laude graduate of NSU in 2007. He was donned the prestigious Ace Higgins Award, given by the Louisiana Sports Writer’s Association to the state’s top student SID in 2007. His 2008

His activities in Natchitoches have included playing drums in the praise bands at the BCM and First Baptist Church, serving as intramurals faculty advisor for the BCM and on the WRAC intramurals committee and acting as a Chamber of Commerce ambassador. Through the NSU sports information office, Jonson has worked closely with the Louisiana Sports Hall of Fame, serving as Advertising Coordinator in 2006 and assisting with inductee hospitality for eight years. Josh MCDANIEL

After nearly five years working in the Louisiana Tech athletics department with extensive involvement with promotional activities and marketing initiatives, Josh McDaniel is the director of marketing and promotions for Northwestern State Athletics. McDaniel, a native of Beauregard Parish, has a wide range of experience including involvement with event management, branding, ticketing, sales, in-game promotions, social media, graphic design, video production and managing the Louisiana Tech Kids Club. He was the multimedia services manager for Louisiana Tech athletic department since January 2010. In that capacity, McDaniel produced content for Tech’s All-Access feature and helped manage the LaTechSports. com website, and managed Twitter, Facebook and Instagram accounts. He spearheaded growth of the department’s Twitter followers from under 100 to over 5,000, and created the department’s Facebook page and grew its audience to over 15,000 followers. McDaniel also created the Bulldogs’ Instagram account and began sport-specific Twitter accounts for each sport. He helped implement and monitored the Top Dog Rewards social media program in 2012. McDaniel developed branding strategies for the department and designed print materials for posters, billboards, fliers and signage, along with creating videos and graphics for website and video board use. He was the point man for baseball marketing and promotions and was involved with those activities for football and men’s and women’s basketball. McDaniel was soley responsible for men’s basketball marketing in 2011-12 and was part of the NCAA Pack the House Challenge winning marketing team in 2011 and 2012. He was the game producer for football and men’s and women’s basketball games, handling the video board script development and implementation. McDaniel handled public address announcing in baseball, soccer and some softball and basketball games, while securing and editing in-game music for all home sporting events. He also did some play-byplay announcing at volleyball, baseball and football games. He secured auction items and was responsible for fan experiences. He created and managed former student-athlete reunions and was involved with organizing the Bulldogs’ Bradshaw-Brooks golf tournament fundraiser. As an external affairs and ticketing staff member from a year until taking the multimedia position in January 2010, McDaniel secured over $25,000 in ticket sales through cold calls and e-mails, and assisted in day-to-day operations of the ticket office and gameday operations. A member of Pi Kappa Phi Fraternity as an undergraduate, McDaniel earned his bachelor’s degree in kinesiology in February 2005. He and his wife, Amanda, are expecting their first child in February.

A three-time Academic All-Southland Conference performer, Kelee Roddy, formerly Kelee Grimes serves as academic coordinator for NSU athletics. Roddy was selected as one of 26 recipients of a 2012 Ethnic Minority and Women’s Enhancement Scholarship awarded by the NCAA to be applied to her postgraduate studies in NSU’s Sport Administration master’s degree program. In her senior season, Roddy was included for the third straight year on the Southland Conference Softball All-Academic Team, finishing with a 3.82 grade point average in business administration while competing in her senior season and serving as a student worker in the Johnnie Emmons Academic Study Center at NSU. Third all-time in school history with 471 career strikeouts, she led the Lady Demons in that category in each of her last three seasons, averaging 1.4 per inning this spring. Roddy was a second-team All-Louisiana selection as a junior when she went 11-8 with a 1.40 earned run average that ranked 18th nationally. Roddy owns two of the 16 no-hitters in school history, blanking Alcorn State as a junior and Alabama State in her senior season. In 2011, she won two Southland Conference Pitcher of the Week honors. As a sophomore, she made the Capital One CoSIDA Academic All-District VI team and was Academic All-Southland Conference for the first time. Roddy is a member of Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society and Beta Gamma Sigma academic honor sorority, and was president of NSU’s Blue Key Honor Society while earning recognition in Who’s Who Among American Universities and Colleges. A Pineville native, Roddy was the 2008 Gatorade Louisiana Softball Player of the Year as she led Pineville High to the Class 5A state finals. She has been active in community outreach projects while a student-athlete in high school and college. She is married to Mike Roddy.

Idaho State, 1999 • Northwestern State, 2001 9th season at NSU Now in his ninth season at Northwestern State, Jason Drury was promoted to Head Athletic Trainer in 2012 after the retirement of long-time trainer Ed Evans. Drury joined the sports medicine staff at Northwestern State University in the summer of 2005 after being the head athletic trainer at Natchitoches Central for five years. In the spring of 2009, Drury took over as the head football athletic trainer for the Demons, after working for three seasons with the women’s soccer team and one season with men’s basketball team. A 1999 graduate of Idaho State University in biology, Drury worked with numerous sports in Pocatello, Idaho including football, men’s basketball and track and field. Drury earned his master’s degree in sports administration from Northwestern State in 2001, during which time he worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the NSU softball team. Drury is a native of Paoli, Indiana. He and his wife, Toni, have been married for nine years. They have two children, Maddox and Kenzie.

Fischer, MD at TRIA Orthopaedics in Minneapolis, Minnesota, where he worked on the medical staff to the Minnesota Vikings, Wild, Twins, and Timberwolves. After fellowship, Dr. Leddy practiced in Kissimmee, Florida with Orthopaedic Associates of Osceola. There, he cared for many local high school and collegiate athletes. He was head team physician for the Florida Seals Professional Hockey Team and Osceola Ghostriders Professional Indoor Football Team. He was also the lead orthopaedic surgeon for the Capital One Bowl and part of the medical staff for the NBA Combines. In 2007, Dr. Leddy accepted an invitation to return to Louisiana and join Mid-State Orthopaedic and Sports Medicine Center in Alexandria. He specializes in sports medicine, arthroscopy of the shoulder, knee and hip, and knee and shoulder reconstruction. Dr. Leddy is Board Certified by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. In 2007, he was part of the inaugural class of orthopaedic surgeons to receive a Subspecialty Board Certification in Sports Medicine by the American Board of Orthopaedic Surgery. He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgery and a member of the American Orthopaedic Society for Sports Medicine, the Arthroscopy Association of North America, and the Louisiana Orthopaedic Association. A native of Hopewell Junction, New York, Dr. Leddy is married to the forrmer Andrée Braud of Belle Chasse, Louisiana, and they have two children, Anna Clare and Mary Caitlin. His hobbies include spending time with his family, golf, hunting, and reading.

Kansas, 2012 • Delta State, 2014 1st season at NSU In her first year at Northwestern State, Anita Miller was hired on July 21 after earning her master’s degree at Delta State University. At DSU she worked with the football, men’s and women’s basketball programs and the men’s soccer program. She worked with the women’s basketball team for two seasons and created numerous rehabilitation plans, including several post-op ACL reconstructions. She covered practices and home games for the football, men’s basketball and soccer teams for one season. A 2012 graduate of the University of Kansas, she graduated with a bachelor’s of science in athletic training while covering the football, spirit squad, women’s tennis and women’s swimming and diving teams. She also earned Kansas Athletic Trainers’ second-team all-academic honors, and was awarded the Mount Oread Scholar and School of Education Recognition Scholarship. Miller is CPR/AED certified, and certified as an instructor. She is also a Mississippi Licensed Athletic Trainer, and is a National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board certified trainer. She is a native of Hutchinson, Kan., and is a graduate of Haven High School.

Dr. James Knecht has been Northwestern’s team physician since 1984. He finished his pre-med curriculum from LSU in 1975. While at LSU, he was an Academic All-SEC and Academic All-American football player in 1974. He has been in private practice family medicine in Natchitoches since 1982. In addition to being Northwestern’s team physician, he has also been Natchitoches Central’s team physician since 1992. Dr. Knecht is actively involved in many professional organizations, including the Natchitoches Parish Medical Society, Active Staff Physicians at Natchitoches Parish Hospital, and the Louisiana State Medical Society. He is also a Diplomat of the American Board of Family Practice and Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice. His father, Gene, was an assistant football coach at Northwestern State and has been active in the Graduate N Club for three decades. TEAM PHYSICIAN

HEAD STRENGTH AND CONDITIONING COACH

Evan COACHMAN Austin College, 2010 Third Season at Northwestern State

Evan Coachman was recently promoted as the head strength and conditioning at Northwestern State after serving last season as the assistant. He worked with football and baseball in 2012-13, but now serves a role with every sport team at NSU. He was a football and strength & conditioning coach for 17 months at his alma mater, where he developed all-conference players at tight end and wide receiver. He developed and managed the in-season workouts for the football team. From 2009-2012, he was also an assistant strength & conditioning coordinator for Athlete’s Performance Course in Allen, Texas, where he developed workout routines for baseball, softball, football and volleyball competitors ages 10-18, and ran workouts for up to 50 athletes simultaneously. Coachman is certified through the National Strength and Conditioning Association, and by USA Weightlifting. At Austin College from 2007-10, Coachman played receiver and free safety. He was a preseason AllAmerican as a senior. He was all-conference at receiver as a sophomore, then at free safety as a junior and senior. He was elected to the Leadership Council by his peers. At Frisco High School, he had a 3.3 GPA and was an all-district football player in his last two seasons. Coachman had a 3.5 GPA in graduate school at Austin College, earning his master’s in education. As an undergraduate, he earned a bachelor’s in history and was secretary and vice president of Phi Sigma Alpha fraternity.

Dr. Will Crenshaw is in his fourth year as a member of the Northwestern State team physician staff. A native of Alexandria, Dr. Crenshaw graduated Cum Laude from Centenary in 1999 when receiving his bachelor’s degree and earned his medical degree from LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans in 2004. He worked his residency at Campbell Clinic in Tennessee beginning in 2004 until 2009. He is a member of the American Medical Association, OREF (Orthopaedic Research and Education Foundation), and AAOS Resident member. He received the Kellogg Endowment Scholarship in 2002 and Alpha Omega Alpha in 2003. He is married.
