Demon Football All-Conference

An All-America safety and the Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 1997, Maranto played in NFL Europe and with the Saints and Browns. He made 209 tackles in his last two seasons, 106 as a senior with 6 interceptions as the Demons shared the SLC title and made the playoffs.

JERMAINE JONES Cornerback- 1998

Runner-up for the Buck Buchanan Award (national defensive MVP) and an All-American for the powerhouse 1998 Southland Conference champs, Jones was SLC Player of the Year and Louisiana Defensive MVP. A cornerback, he set NSU marks for season (21) and career (44) pass breakups and scored 5 touchdowns on returns in ’98. An All-American as a junior for the 2001 Demons, Willis made one of the biggest plays in school history, blocking a TCU field goal try to end NSU’s 27-24 overtime win in ’01. He had 21 career sacks, 10.5 in his junior year, and 42.5 for lost yardage (20 in 2001) among his 161 career tackles and was a two-time All-Southland Conference pick.

ROY LOCKS Defensive End- 2002

A four-year starter and All-Southland Conference pick both at linebacker and defensive end, Locks won All-America honors in 2002 with 16.5 tackles for loss and 10 sacks among his 70 tackles. He had 224 career tackles, 37.5 for loss, and was a key on playoff teams in 2001 and 2002.

ROBERT DANIEL Defensive End -1998

A consensus All-America defensive end for the 1998 SLC champs, Daniel played in the East-West Shrine Game and the Blue-Gray All-Star Classic. He overcame reconstructive knee surgery in 1997 to become a sixth-round 1999 NFL Draft pick (Carolina).

MIKE GREEN Defensive Back -1998,1999

A two-time All-America safety (1998, 1999), Green was among the best hitters in school history, twice winning national “play of the week” awards. A 9-year NFL veteran with Chicago and Seattle, Green led all pro defensive backs in tackles in 2002 despite being the last pick in the 2000 NFL Draft.

WILLIAM BROUSSARD Center -1998,1999

A two-time All-American center (1998, 1999), Broussard starred on the 1998 Southland Conference championship team that reached the national semifinals. One of 15 seniors nationally in 1999 named a National Football Foundation Scholar-Athlete, he also played for the 1997 SLC co-champions.

TONY TAYLOR Running Back -2000

A 2000 All-American, Taylor shattered NSU season and career rushing records. He has the top two season totals (1,506 in 2000, 1,441 in 1999), is first in career rushing (3,720 yards), attempts (688) and in 100-yard games in a season (8, 1999) and career (20). His averages per game (136.9, 2000) and career (112.7) are also tops.

TERRENCE MCGEE Return Specialist -2000

All-America as a punt returner in 2000, when he set an NCAA record with a 23.7 average including three long scores, McGee was a four-year starter at cornerback, sharing the career mark for pass breakups (44) while making 11 interceptions. A Pro Bowl kick returner with Buffalo in 2004, he played 10 NFL seasons.

GENE TENNISON Offensive Line -2001

Tennison played guard and tackle as a three-year starter, earning 2001 All-Southland Conference and All-America honors at tackle. NSU won the ’98 SLC title and reached the playoff semis, and got back to the playoffs in his senior year. He also won an NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and was an SLC shot put champ.

JAMALL JOHNSON Linebacker -2003,2004

A two-time All-American and Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2004 for the SLC champs, Johnson made 217 tackles in two seasons. Also a special teams standout with great speed, Johnson keyed record-breaking Purple Swarm defenses. He became a star in the CFL.

QUINTENE NEWHOUSE Defensive Line -2003

All-America at tackle as a junior, he played nose in 2004 for the Southland Conference champs and repeated as a first-team All-SLC pick. Newhouse made 155 career tackles, 29 for lost yards, notably forcing a fumble as ULM was trying to run out the clock, resulting in a last-second 2003 win.

GREG BUCKLEY Offensive Line- 2004

An All-America guard for the 2004 Southland Conference champions, Buckley was a three-time All-SLC selection. He started for playoff teams in 2002 and 2004, earning first-team All-Louisiana honors in ’04 after the Demons set a single-season scoring record and allowed only 6 sacks.

DAVID PITTMAN Defensive Back- 2005

A 2005 All-American, the 2004-05 All-Southland Conference cornerback was a third-round (87th overall) 2006 NFL Draft choice (Ravens). A four-year starter, “Pitt” snagged 11 interceptions, broke up 26 passes, scored 4 touchdowns (three interception returns) and made 153 tackles. He was the only FCS player in the 2006 Senior Bowl.

TORY COLLINS Defensive Tackle, 2005,2006

The eighth two-time All-American in school history, Collins was a three-year All-Southland Conference selection at defensive tackle. He made 185 career tackles, 33 for loss. He helped the 2004 Demons win the SLC and reach the national playoffs after transferring from LSU as a freshman.

DEMETRESS BELL Offensive Line -2007

Orginally recruited to play basketball for legendary coach Mike McConathy, Bell was noticed by the football coaches and given a try out at defensive line. He later moved to offensive tackle, where he remained for the remainder of his career. Bell was the 32nd Demon to be taken in the professional draft when he was chosen in the seventh round by Buffalo. He later became the starting left tackle. NSU’s 40th All-American, he was the Demons top offensive lineman three straight years. He averaged in the high 70s in grade percentage every year in Natchitoches. Booker was a three-time All-SLC selection.

DEREK ROSE Linebacker -2010, 2011

The ninth two-time All-American in school history, Rose was a three-year All-Southland Conference selection being voted to the first team his sophomore and senior years and second team junior year. He finished his career with 338 tackles.

JUSTIN ALDREDGE Tight End -2011

Justin Aldredge joined his grandfather Corwyn Aldredge on Northwestern State’s elite group of football All-Americans. It was the first time in school history two members of the same family earned the honor. He had team highs of 39 catches for 514 yards and two touchdowns.

IMOAN CLAIBORNE Cornerback -2014

Imoan Claiborne capped his Northwestern State career with All-American honors after causing seven turnovers (four interceptions, three recovered fumbles) in his senior season. He and Ed Eagan gave NSU its first pair of All-Americans in the same season since 2010 (Booker, Rose).

ED EAGAN All-Purpose -2014

A former cornerback, Eagan shined as a wide receiver and return specialist as a junior. Eagan set a slew of school records, including kickoff return yardage in a season and a career as well as the single-season mark for receptions (73) in a breakout 2014 season.

CHRIS MOORE Kicker -2015

The school career record holder for scoring (248) and field goals (45) was a third-team All-American by both the Associated Press and STATS Inc. after a senior season in which he made 16 of 19 field goals, including a pair of 52-yarders, and 35 of 37

JAZZ FERGUSON Wide Receiver -2018

In his lone season at Northwestern State, Ferguson established school records for recieving yards (1,117), touchdowns (13) and 100-yard receiving games (6), earning All-American honors from the Associated Press, STATS Inc., Hero Sports and Phil Steele.

QUAN SHORTS Wide Receiver -2019

A Texas Tech transfer, Shorts became the first Demon pass catcher to reach 100 receptions in a season, hitting it on the number despite battling turf toe over the final three games of the season and earning All-American honors from STATS FCS. In addition to his 100 grabs, Shorts caught 11 scoring passes.

JOMARD VALSIN Linebacker -2021 (Spring)

Valsin earned second-team American Football Coaches Association All-America honors in the pandemic-affected 2020-21 season after collecting 54 tackles (8 TFL) and three sacks in just six games.
