2019 Season (Sophomore): Played in 14 contests, starting 13...compiled a 7-5 record in her first year at NSU...fifth in school history with six shutouts in a season...recorded two shutouts in the conference tournament, against Sam Houston State and McNeese...for her efforts, she was named to the All-Tournament team...also had shutouts in 1-0 wins against Texas State, Stephen F. Austin and Southeastern Louisiana...also shut out Nicholls...stopped a season-high seven shots in the opener at North Texas...also registered six saves each against Baylor on Aug. 25 and Lamar Sept. 27...made five saves in the overtime conference tournament semifinal win against McNeese...allowed just one goal in the regular season against a Lamar offense that had scored 13 goals the previous three contests...made 36 saves and had a 67 percent save rate in 1123 minutes. Before NSU: Played freshman season at Troy, where she was the primary goalkeeper…appeared and started 15 games for the Trojans…recorded five shutouts…made 68 saves in more than 1,300 minutes…had a goals against average of 2.19. 3rd Season at NSU •3rd Overall Fontbonne (2009) Northwestern State soccer co-head coach Jess Jobe has taken the program to heights it hasn’t seen since 2005. He led NSU to 13 wins in his second season after guiding the program to 10 wins and a Southland Conference Tournament appearance in his first season in Natchitoches. The Lady Demons had made only one SLC Tournament since 2009. NSU finished second in the regular season in 2019, going 8-2-1, and defeating champion Lamar, handing the Cardinals their only conference setback. The Lady Demons advanced to the conference tournament championship for the first time since 2005. NSU finished with the second most wins (8) and second most points (25) in conference play in program history. For his efforts, he and co-head coach Anna Jobe were named co-All Louisiana Coaches of the Year. Jobe’s squad had five players named to the All-Conference teams in 2019, led by Southland Conference Defender of the Year Nicole Henry. The defense was the calling card in 2019, as it allowed just 1.27 goals and 8.5 shots per game. The Lady Demons surrendered one goal or fewer 17 times in 22 matches and registered eight shutouts, which was the most in a season for NSU since 2009. In 2018, Jobe tutored All-Southland Conference selection April Trowbridge (league best 13 goals, which was tied for 13th in the nation at the end of the regular season) as she led an offense that finished 30th in the nation with 2.10 goals per game. Before NSU, Jobe spent the past seven seasons on the Dallas Baptist staff, the last two as associate head coach after three seasons as the top assistant and two as a graduate assistant. The NCAA Division II Patriots have been a Top 25 program in each of those seven seasons, qualifying for six D-II NCAA Tournaments with a 108-35-11 mark in that span. DBU won the Heartland Conference regular season and tournament titles in 2017, advancing to the Division II NCAA Tournament and finishing with a 15-4-2 record. The Patriots appeared in the regional championship (Sweet 16) twice, winning the title and advancing to the national quarterfinals in 2015. Jess helped guide the Patriots to four conference regular season titles (2011, 2012, 2015, 2017) and four league tournament titles (2011, 2015, 2016, 2017).

Five Patriots have achieved D-II All-American status with 12 regional selections and 55 all-conference picks in Jobe’s seven seasons. Jess has one season of Division I experience as the North Texas goalkeeper coach in 2010. The Mean Green allowed just 17 goals in 21 matches, posting a .78 goals against average and nine shutouts. UNT went 12-7-1 and 7-3-1 in the Sun Belt Conference. He’s been involved with the North Texas State Olympic Development Program (2010-14), the U.S. Soccer Olympic Development Program (2012-15) and the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (2016 to present). His coaching licenses include an Advanced National Goalkeeper Diploma (2015), an Advanced National Coaching Diploma (2014) and a USSF Level ‘D’ Coaching License (2009). Jess has also been involved in soccer camps around the state, including being an integral assistant at the University of Texas soccer camps under coach Angela Kelly. After finishing his playing career at Fontbonne University, he served as a student assistant coach and recruiter in 2009. Jess started his playing career at Georgia Southern as a goalkeeper before transferring to NCAA Division III member Fontbonne. At Fontbonne, he was a three-time, all-conference performer -- twice as a goalkeeper and once as a midfielder. Jess completed his master of education in kinesiology from Dallas Baptist (2014) and his bachelor of science in sports management at Fontbonne (2009). The Denton, Texas, native was married to Anna in December of 2016, and they had a newborn son Sterling born in March and two doberman pinschers Cal and Dirk.

3rd season at NSU • 3rd overall Mobile, 2011 Northwestern State soccer co-head coach Anna Jobe led the program to 13 wins and a conference tournament championship game appearance in her second year in Natchitoches. The Lady Demons made their third postseason appearance in four seasons after not making the tournament since 2008. The Lady Demons finished second in the regular season in 2019, going 8-2-1, and downing champion Lamar, handing the Cardinals their only conference defeat. NSU finished with the second most wins (8) and second most points (25) in conference play in program history. For her efforts, she and co-head coach Jess Jobe were named co-All Louisiana Coaches of the Year. Primarily in charge of the goalkeepers, Jobe guided a unit to allow just 1.24 goals per game, the program’s best mark since 2009. Senior Kayla Bomben allowed just 0.99 goals per game and was named to the All-Louisiana first team. Acelya Aydogmus recorded six shutouts on the year, which is fifth in school history. Together, they recorded eight shutouts, the most in a season since 2009. Before NSU, Anna spent 2017 as a volunteer assistant coach at Dallas Baptist, which won the Heartland Conference regular season and conference tournament titles. The Patriots finished 15-4-2 and advanced to the Division II NCAA Tournament. DBU’s Abigail Olmos garnered All-American status with Lindsay McManus earning Academic All-American status in Anna’s one season at DBU. Anna cut her coaching teeth with four seasons on the coaching staff at Baylor (2013-16) under coaches Paul and Marci Jobson. The Bears posted winning records in all four seasons and winning Big 12 conference records in Jobe’s two seasons as a full-time assistant. The Bears reached the Big 12 Tournament all four seasons. Anna primarily worked with goalkeepers at Baylor and Dallas Baptist. She continues her role as a mentor and spiritual advisor that started at Baylor and Dallas Baptist. Anna earned her master’s degree in sports pedagogy from Baylor and her bachelor’s degree in human performance and exercise science from the University of Mobile. At Mobile, Anna (then Maddox) was an accomplished goalkeeper. During the summer before her senior season, Jobe played semi-professional soccer in the WPSL with the Buxmont Torch. Concurrent with her playing career, Anna spent two seasons as the head girls’ soccer coach at the Alabama School of Math and Science, leading the Dragons to an undefeated season in her first campaign. Her coaching licenses include the NSCAA National Diploma as well as the NSCAA Advanced National Goalkeeping Diploma. Kyle Jobe is in his second year as a graduate assistantwith the NSU program. Jobe was part of He came to Northwestern State after graduating from Dallas Baptist in 2018, where he played for three years from 2015-17, playing in 31 games and starting five. Following his playing career, he was a student assistant for a year at Dallas Baptist. His duties included pre-game field preparation, helping forwards finishing drills and assisting in pre-game warm-ups. The La Porte, Texas, native helped coach a Dallas U13 boys’ soccer team with current Lady Demons coach Jess Jobe.

KRISTINA OVERHOLT

Athletics Trainer

Kristina Overholt is in her second year as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for soccer. Overholt graduated in May 2019 from James Madison University with a Bachelor of Science degree in athletic training. While at James Madison, she worked with the men’s/women’s club rugby, women’s field hockey, women’s soccer, and a local high school. During her time NSU thus far, Overholt has been teaching CPR and First Aid and assisted with various other classes as a part of the Health and Human Performance department. Other professional development includes volunteer work for the Marine Corps Marathon and the Boston Marathon. A Lynchburg, Va. native, Overholt is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association, Mid-Atlantic Athletic Trainers’ Association and Virginia Athletic Trainers’ Association.

Strength and Conditioning Coach

After more than four years at Newberry College, Erik Schwager joined the Northwestern State Athletic Department as its director of strength and conditioning In March 2020. Schwager comes to NSU after serving as the director of strength, conditioning and athletic performance at Newberry, where he helped the Wolves capture the 2016 Southern Atlantic Conference football championship. At Newberry, Schwager was in charge of a 22-sport program and directly designed and implemented all facets of strength and conditioning for the Wolves’ football, women’s soccer and softball programs while managing a staff of three assistants. Schwager comes to Natchitoches with a varied background that includes stops at Hartford, where he worked with Major League Baseball first-round selection Sean Newcomb, Limestone College and with the Batavia Muckdogs, a Class A affiliate of the St. Louis Cardinals. He also has experience at Princeton, Michigan State and South Florida and was the owner and director of H.I.T. Advanced Training, LLC. Schwager is a 2009 graduate of Lock Haven University and earned his master’s from California University of Pennsylvania in 2012.

Well into its sixth decade of service, the Southland Conference continues to be a model of innovation, stability and consistent achievement as it celebrates the academic and athletic accomplishments of its member institutions and approximately 4,200 student-athletes. Having commemorated its 50th anniversary in 2013, the Southland Conference has transformed itself into a dynamic and respected consortium of 13 member universities in three states. Beginning with a historic meeting of five institutions in Dallas on March 15, 1963, the Southland Conference set on an extraordinary course that has proven successful well into the 21st Century. The successful transformation continues, as the Southland Conference welcomed four additional members in 2013: Abilene Christian University, Houston Baptist University, the University of Incarnate Word in San Antonio, and the University of New Orleans. In addition to its newest members, the Southland also consists of the University of Central Arkansas, Lamar University, McNeese State University, Nicholls State University, Northwestern State University, Sam Houston State University, Southeastern Louisiana University, Stephen F. Austin State University and Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi. An original Southland member from 1963-73, Abilene Christian rejoined the league as one of the most decorated athletic programs in NCAA history, and the addition of Houston Baptist, UIW and New Orleans gives the Southland a regular competitive presence in the key metropolitan areas of Houston, San Antonio and New Orleans. Southland cities encompass approximately 14 million people, and six of its television markets rank among the top 100 in the U.S. All told, the membership of the Southland encompasses nearly 140,000 current students and an alumni base of nearly 800,000. Austin). The Southland sponsors 17 full championship sports, all at the NCAA Division I level. The eight men’s sports include baseball, basketball, cross country, football, golf, tennis, and indoor and outdoor track and field. The women compete for nine championships in basketball, cross country, golf, soccer, softball, tennis, indoor and outdoor track and field, and volleyball. The conference earns automatic qualification to NCAA championships in baseball, men’s and women’s basketball, men’s and women’s cross country, football, men’s and women’s golf, women’s soccer, softball, men’s and women’s tennis, and volleyball. The Southland Bowling League, an affiliated Conference sport, originated in 2015, and four of its members filled out half of the eight-team bracket, with Stephen F. Austin advancing to the national title match. Continuing its tradition of innovation, the league launched the Southland Conference Television Network in the fall of 2008 and has broadcast more than 160 events. The network has expanded its reach to roughly 13 million households throughout Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas and Oklahoma in recent years, and has also gained national viewership through ESPN3 and Fox College Sports. In its first seven years, the network has received recognition for its work, earning numerous College Sports Media and Telly Awards. The Southland Conference, in conjunction with the city of Frisco, Texas, and Hunt Sports Group, also serves as the host to the NCAA Division I Football Championship Game in Frisco, which has been home to the conference headquarters since 2006. The game is played at Frisco’s Toyota Stadium, and after a successful three-year run, the partnership was rewarded with a three-year renewal to serve as the national championship host site through the 2015 season. Southland Conference football ranks among the best Football Championship Subdivision leagues in the nation, and enjoys an annual expectation of competing for the national championship with multiple teams advancing to the NCAA playoffs each year. In 2014, three Southland teams – Southeastern Louisiana, Sam Houston State and Stephen F. After a 2018 season in which Northwestern State wanted to build off positive vibes of making the Southland Conference Tournament in co-head coaches Jess and Anna Jobes’ inaugural season, the Lady Demons struggled to an 0-5 start with a roster featuring 14 newcomers and eight returners who were sophomores. But the second-youngest roster in the nation didn’t flinch, reeling off five straight wins and propelling themselves to the No. 2 seed in the Southland Conference Tournament and a berth in the finals. The 13 wins is the second-most in program history and tops since the 2005 Lady Demons won 13 matches en route to an SLC Tournament championship and NCAA Tournament appearance. The tournament field expanded to eight teams three seasons ago, but the Jobes led the Lady Demons to consecutive postseasons for the first time since NSU had a string of postseasons from 2002-08. NSU turned the corner in league play, posting an 8-2-1 mark before winning a pair of tournament games in reaching the finals for the fifth time in school history. Defense was a cornerstone led by NSU’s first Southland Conference Defensive Player of the Year in sophomore Nicole Henry. NSU posted a 1.27 goals against average, the program’s best since 2009. Henry led an underclassmen back line that included freshman Hallie Field and sophomore Natalee Henry with sophomore Kalee Williams, freshman Samantha Hanking and junior Ashley Medawattage playing various roles. The Henry twins were first and second-team All-Southland Conference, respectively, while Field and sophomore forward Jalen Donaldson made the league’s third team. Donaldson produced four goals and two assists. Nicole Henry added to her honors with first-team All-Louisiana status, while Natalee Henry and Donaldson were honorable mention. The goalkeeping tandem of sophomore Acelya Aydogmus and senior Kayla Bomben proved effective. Aydogmus was the team’s primary keeper by season’s end starting all three SLC tournament games, including pitching two of her six shutouts this season, which is one short of the program record. Bomben actually had the better GAA (0.99), the Aydogmus, the Troy transfer, strengthened her grip on the position with four straight shutouts leading to the conference tournament finals. Freshman Olivia Draguicevich led the team with six goals, including four game-winners. Draguicevich scored the decider in games such as an OT win vs. UL Lafayette, the tournament semifinals vs. McNeese and a win at Incarnate Word. NSU knocked off SFA to start league play, the team’s first win against the Ladyjacks since 2002. The Lady Demons also handed champion Lamar its only loss and tied third-place Abilene Christian on the road. The Lady Demons lose just two seniors who played in Bomben and academic all-district honoree Jayden Wheeler.

Dr. Chris Maggio

Northwestern State President Chris Maggio is a competitor for all seasons. Northwestern State’s fourth-year president was an all-sports athlete in high school, a college distance runner at NSU, and a high school football, basketball and track coach. He became a college coach in track and field for the Demons and Lady Demons. He even spent a few years as a high school basketball referee. His zeal for competition makes him a dynamic recruiter and fund raiser for NSU, and his ability to mentor staff members and students combines with his warmth and sincerity to produce a tremendously effective university administrator. Dr. Darlene Williams achievement in two years as president. Henderson moved up to run the University of Louisiana System, which includes Northwestern and eight other state universities. Maggio, 56, is a lifelong resident of Natchitoches and long-time faculty and staff member at Northwestern State. He is the university’s 19th president since its founding in 1884, and the first one who is homegrown, along with the first to be a four-year athletic letterwinner as a Demon competitor. Maggio was named vice president for the student experience at Northwestern State in 2016 after serving as interim vice president for just over a year. He maintained his role as vice president for the student experience while serving as acting president. When the NSU Student Services building opened three years ago, designers had a lovely office location for Maggio on the second floor. He asked instead for the room just inside the front door to the building, not connected to any administrative wing, but envisioned as a conference space. His reasoning: Maggio wanted to see everybody who walked in the door, and providing the ability to immediately engage them or at least be easily accessible for anyone who needed help. As vice president, Maggio led the Dean of Students and the Offices of Admissions, Recruiting, Financial Aid, Student Activities and Organizations, First Year Experience and Leadership Development, Judicial Services, Counseling and Career Services, Student Life, the Student Activities Board, Student Government Association, Student Support Services, and Greek Life. Northwestern State has recorded enrollment increases for the past four years, with record numbers in 2017-18, peaked by 11,081 in the fall 2018 semester. Maggio served as assistant vice president of external affairs for university advancement from 2013 until 2015, when he was promoted by Dr. Henderson. He has been a staff member at Northwestern State since 1988, when he joined the track and field coaching staff. After several years as director of admissions and recruiting during record-setting enrollment for NSU, Maggio was selected as director of alumni affairs in 1999, director of alumni and development in 2003, executive director of the NSU Foundation in 2005

and Dean of Students and assistant provost for student success in 2007. During his career at NSU, Maggio also served as director of enrollment services. Under Maggio’s leadership, the NSU Foundation completed its first capital campaign in Northwestern’s history, exceeding a campaign goal of $18.84 million and raising $31 million to support the university. He has also been a faculty member in the Department of Health and Human Performance for more than 20 years as an instructor, assistant professor and associate professor. Maggio came on board the NSU staff in 1988 as assistant track and field coach, then became head women’s coach a year later. After a very successful five years in that capacity, in 1994 Maggio moved into administration as the fundraiser for NSU Athletics before quickly being snapped up to become the university’s director of admissions and recruiting. Maggio is a 1985 summa cum laude graduate of Northwestern State. He won Gulf Star Conference All-Academic honors in track and field and helped the Demons win the 1985 GSC championship. As a senior, he was elected Mr. NSU by his fellow students. Maggio earned his master’s of education at NSU. He received a doctorate in developmental education from Grambling State University. His parents helped run a family business in Natchitoches. His father, Buddy, was honored as a “Natchitoches Treasure” in 2015 by the City of Natchitoches. As a young boy, Maggio became playmates with future Basketball Hall of Fame member Joe Dumars, whose home was near one of the Maggio’s stores. Dr. Maggio’s wife, Jennifer, was formerly on the NSU staff as Coordinator of Adult Education Initiatives. They have three children, Melanie, Scott, and Emily.

Jerry Pierce

Vice President • External Affairs Only a couple of people have served Northwestern State as long as alumnus Jerry Pierce has, and nobody has done so in a more understated manner. In his 55th year on the university’s staff, Pierce’s impact on NSU and the city of Natchitoches is indelible. He’s never wanted or gotten top billing, but consistently, he gets results to benefit the university. He is in his 29th year as vice president of external affairs at Northwestern. A significant aspect of his job is oversight of intercollegiate athletics. Pierce works closely with athletic director Greg Burke and all NSU coaches and staff members to keep Northwestern athletics competing at a championship level week after week, month after month and year after year. In 1994, he was named one of Louisiana’s 20 most influential sports figures by the Times-Picayune. Also on the list were New Orleans Saints owner Tom Benson, LSU athletic director Joe Dean and basketball coach Dale Brown, and Grambling football coaching legend Eddie Robinson. His salesmanship and managerial skills were instrumental in convincing Tri-Star Productions to film the 1989 smash hit movie “Steel Magnolias,” with an all-star cast including Julia Roberts, Sally Field and Dylan McDermott in Natchitoches and on the NSU campus. The movie’s impact on tourism in Natchitoches continues to resonate nearly three decades later. Pierce is regarded as one of the most effective legislative liaisons for Louisiana’s higher education system. He has been also a master of ceremonies and speaker who has enlivened hundreds of events since 1965. In addition to his administrative responsibilities, Pierce is a tenured member of the Journalism Department faculty. He is the author of one book and editor of two others and has written thousands of editorials, columns, features and other articles for newspapers and magazines. In a quarter century at the helm of the Northwestern State Athletic Department, Greg Burke is highly regarded far past the 318-area code due to the work he’s done in his adopted hometown. Burke, a native Ohioan and avid fan of all Cleveland pro sports teams, has been the Demons’ athletics director since 1996. Burke is the longest serving AD at any Louisiana or Southland Conference institution, and is believed to be the longest-serving AD in state history. He has steered NSU athletics to many of its greatest accomplishments while overseeing a program that has fielded championship-caliber teams in most of the school’s 14 NCAA Division I sports. Highlights in Burke’s two-plus decades as athletic director include 42 Southland Conference regular-season or tournament championships, 75 All-America and Academic All-America student athletes, and three U.S. Olympic competitors. Twenty-six NSU teams have participated in NCAA or other postseason competition. The athletic program’s $10 million “Victorious” facility campaign has resulted in $1.7 million of construction and updates to the baseball, softball, football, soccer, and track complexes in the past year. Updates are also visible in the Athletic Fieldhouse and at Prather Coliseum, including a new interactive N-Club Hall of Fame display. The “crown jewel” of the campaign will be a $3.5 million strength and conditioning center that will also include significant updates to the department’s sports medicine areas. These completed projects come on the heels of the addition of a $1 million video board and $600,000 chairback seating upgrade at Turpin Stadium made possible through private gifts and sponsorships in the past three years. Fundraising initiatives reached new levels in 2018-19 through increased giving to the Demons Unlimited Foundation that exceeded $2.5 million in restricted and unrestricted gifts, as well as to the “Perpetually Purple” endowment program. The athletic department also recently signed an exclusive multi-media rights agreement with Peak Sports Management. Competitively, one of the biggest achievements under Burke: NSU in 2004-05 became the first (and remains the only) Southland Conference member in the league’s five decades of history to sweep football, men’s basketball and baseball championships in the same athletic year. It’s been done only once in Southeastern Conference history, by Alabama in 1933-34, and only four times in Big Ten Conference history, the last time by Michigan State in 1979-80. From his first day on the job, Burke has stressed the importance of having a balanced athletic program. Tremendous competitive strides have been made in women’s athletics under his guidance. Since 2013, Lady Demon basketball (2014, 2015), softball (2013, 2014), tennis (2013, 2015), volleyball (2015) and baseball (2018) have reached NCAA Tournaments. Most recently, Jasmyn Steels had arguably the best year in Southland Conference history for a female track and female athlete by winning the long jump title at the NCAA Division I Indoor Championships and finishing second at the NCAA outdoor meet. Those accomplishments have come with one of the more modest athletic budgets in the state and conference. Burke’s management skill and fundraising ability have been pivotal. Burke has a remarkable ability to hire dynamic head coaches. Anchors of the department are current head coaches Mike McConathy, Louisiana’s all-time career basketball wins leader; softball coach Donald Pickett, and track and field coach Mike Heimerman, a trio with over 50 combined years on staff at NSU. Three former student-athletes in Burke’s tenure have become NSU head coaches, including fourth-year baseball coach Bobby Barbier, who guided the Demons to the 2018 NCAA Regionals after winning the first conference tourney title in school history. Numerous Burke coaching and staff hires have had great success at Northwestern State that propelled them to national prominence in subsequent positions. Over 100 former NSU studentathletes, coaches and support staff members, most of them here with Burke as AD or assistant AD (1986-92), are working in college athletics at some level. Former Demons are head coaches in 12 Division I conferences - SEC, Big XII, ACC, MWC, Conference USA, Sun Belt, Ohio Valley, Big Sky, Patriot, Southern, SWAC, and Southland – as well as several others at the Division II and NAIA levels. Former Burke lieutenants Todd Garzarelli (Indiana University Pennsylvania), Jason Horn (Xavier-NO) and Adam Jonson (LSU Alexandria) are now athletics directors. OthersBurke proteges include Tommy McClelland (athletic director at Louisiana Tech), Roman Banks (athletic director at Southern University), Kurt Gulbrand (senior associate AD for development at Tennessee), Jodie Libadisos (associate AD for student-athlete enhancement at South Florida), and Dennis Kalina (deputy athletic director at Binghamton). Burke has established a high standard for NSU Athletics in academic achievement and community service. The academic accomplishments are reflected annually in the NCAA’s APR and

GSR studies. Community service and engagement outreach by NSU student-athletes, coaches and staff totaled nearly 7,000 more for the 2018-19 year. NSU was the inaugural winner and has twice been runner-up for The Southland Conference’s “Southland Strong” Community Service since its inception five years ago. NSU has also had the most Southland Conference “Steve McCarty Citizenship Award” honorees since that award’s inception in 2008. Burke spearheaded the adoption of the slogan “Great Tradition, Brighter Future” for NSU Athletics, and the creation of NSU Athletics “Cornerstones” for student-athletes: “Academic Achievement, Personal Responsibility, Competitive Success … Every Minute, Every Hour, Every Day!” In February 2013, he was presented the “Outstanding Contributions to Amateur Football Award” by the North Louisiana chapter of the National Football Foundation and College Football Hall of Fame. In 2010, he was included among 29 winners of the Under Amour AD of the Year Award presented by the National Association of Collegiate Directors of Athletics (NACDA). Burke was the 2010-11 president of the Football Championship Subdivision Athletics Directors Association. In 2005, Burke was one of three recipients of the All-America Football Foundation’s Gen. Robert R. Neyland Outstanding Athletic Director Award and that same year, was also tabbed as one of two Natchitoches Parish Cenla Newsmakers of 2005 by the Alexandria Town Talk newspaper’s editorial staff. He received the 2006 “Outstanding Alumni Award” from his alma mater, Marlington High School in Alliance, Ohio, recognizing his community service and professional achievements. Burke’s NCAA committee service has included terms on the NCAA Committee on Academics and Championships/Sports Management Cabinet. He previously served a term on the NCAA Division I Football Issues Committee (1999-2002) and concurrently served on the eight-member NCAA FCS Committee that administers the national playoffs. He begins a five-year term on the NCAA Women’s Basketball Committee in 2020. Burke is a member of the Natchitoches Convention and Visitors Bureau board, and on the board of directors for the Central Louisiana Community Foundation. He is past president of the Natchitoches Kiwanis Club and remains active in that civic group. He has also been part of the steering committee for the Natchitoches Christmas Festival and is a former member of the Natchitoches Area Jaycees. He has been involved with the American Heart Association and was 2010 March of Dimes chairman locally. His wife, Susu, is a Natchitoches native, NSU graduate and an elementary teacher. Their daughter Catherine graduated from St. Mary’s Catholic School in May of 2012 and completed her graduate studies at UL Lafayette in December 2019 after earning her undergraduate degree from Louisiana Tech. She began a career in public relations and marketing in May 2018. She and Joseph Faucheaux of Natchitoches were married in July 2020.

Idaho State, 1999; Northwestern State, 2001 15th season at Northwestern State Now in his 15th season at Northwestern State, Jason Drury was promoted to director of sports medicine in 2012 after the retirement of long-time athletic trainer Ed Evans. Drury joined the sports medicine staff at Northwestern State University in the summer of 2005 after being the head athletic trainer at Natchitoches Central for five years. Drury was instrumental in developing Northwestern State’s partnership with Natchitoches Regional Medical Center, which doubled NSU’s full-time sports medicine staff in 2015. In the spring of 2009, Drury took over as the head football athletic trainer for the Demons, after working for three seasons with the women’s soccer team and one season with men’s basketball team. A 1999 graduate of Idaho State University in biology, Drury worked with numerous sports in Pocatello, Idaho, including football, men’s basketball and track and field. Drury earned his master’s degree in sports administration from Northwestern State in 2001, during which time he worked as a graduate assistant athletic trainer for the NSU softball team. Drury is a native of Paoli, Indiana. He and his wife, Toni, have been married for 16 years. They have two children, Maddox and Kenzie.

KALEVI PAJULUOMA

INTERIM ASST. DIRECTOR OF SPORTS MEDICINE UL Lafayette, 2020; 1st season at Northwestern State Kalevi Pajuluoma was named Northwestern State's interim assistant director of sports medicine in August 2020 after spending one season as a graduate assistant athletic trainer on the NSU staff. Pajuluoma spent more than two years at Texas A&M-Corpus Christi, assisting with men’s basketball, volleyball, men’s and women’s tennis and track and field. He also assisted W.B. Ray High in a variety of sports for one year. Pajuluoma gained additional experience with events like the Manning Passing Academy, large-scale high school track meets and college tennis tournaments and high school cross country meets among others. He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in May and is CPR and first-aid certified. Nicknamed “Kal,” he also learned on the job while attending Diablo Valley College where he assisted with soccer, basketball, football and volleyball.

Morrisville State, 2014; Daemen College, 2016 Third season at Northwestern State Kolleen Brown is in her third season as part of the Northwestern State sports medicine staff. Brown, who arrived in Natchitoches in August 2017, is Northwestern State’s primary athletic trainer for women’s basketball. A former all-conference soccer player at Morrisville State, Brown earned her undergraduate degree in human performance and health promotion before collecting her master’s degree in athletic training from Daemen College. Brown also played lacrosse, where she helped her team to the NAC West Division Championship Tournament. While at Utica College, Brown was the primary athletic trainer for women’s ice hockey and women’s lacrosse. Brown worked with Niagara University’s men’s hockey team in 2016 and with the University of Buffalo’s women’s soccer team in 2014. She also worked with the Buffalo football team during spring practice in 2015. Her time at Niagara and Buffalo came while she was earning her master’s degree from Daemen. Brown also performed occupational medical clearance physicals at Healthworks in Buffalo. A Licensed Athletic Trainer, Brown is BOC certified and holds a CDC concussion certification. She is first-aid/CPR/AED certified and is a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association.

BRITTANY GOLDBERG

ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF SPORTS MEDICINE Southern Utah, 2016; Northwestern State, 2018 Fourth season at Northwestern State Brittany Goldberg returned to Northwestern State as its assistant director of sports medicine in July 2018 after a short stint at UL Lafayette. The Lake Havasu City, Arizona, native graduated from Northwestern State with a masters in health and human performance with a concentration in health promotion in May 2018, after spending two years working as an athletic trainer with soccer, spring volleyball, tennis and football. She is the primary athletic trainer for Northwestern State baseball. The Southern Utah graduate earned a degree in athletic training and exercise science while serving two athletics seasons with duties ranging from emergency care, rehabilitation and baseline concussion testing. Her sport assignments included football, softball, men’s basketball, gymnastics, cross country, track and field, volleyball and tennis. Goldberg served Parowan High School in a variety of sports as well as the Utah High School Activities Association football championships. Goldberg is a licensed athletic trainer by the State of Louisiana Board of Medical Examiners, a BOC certified athletic trainer and a Red Cross certified professional rescuer. Goldberg, a member of the National Athletic Trainers’ Association and the Rocky Mountain Athletic Trainers’ Association, was awarded the Big Sky Football Officials Association Student Athletic Trainer Scholarship in 2015.

Jason Pugh

Assistant AD for Media Relations

A 12-year veteran of The (Shreveport) Times newsroom, Jason Pugh is in his fifth year as the assistant sports information director at Northwestern State after joining the department in October 2014. During his Times tenure, Pugh was the Northwestern State football and men’s basketball beat writer from 2010-2013 and covered the 2012-13 NSU team that captured the program’s third NCAA Tournament berth. Prior to covering area college athletics, Pugh was the primary high school sports awriter at The Times, during which he covered several athletes whose careers led them to Northwestern State, including All-Southland Conference men’s basketball performers Jalan West and Zeek Woodley and former All-Southland Conference third baseman Chase Daughdrill (baseball). At The Times, Pugh had the opportunity to cover all three World Series that have taken place in Texas, one College World Series, one NCAA Men’s Final Four and Super Bowl XLV. He has won first-place awards in Best Feature Story and Best Sports Story from the Louisiana Press Association and first place in Best Prep Feature from the Louisiana Sports Writers Association. While a student at Louisiana-Lafayette, Pugh was the sports editor of the campus newspaper, The Vermilion, for two years and was a part of the sports information office for three years. In 2000-01, Pugh was the primary media contact for the inaugural season of Lady Cajuns soccer and for the nationally ranked Ragin’ Cajuns baseball team, which made its lone College World Series appearance the previous year. A 1997 graduate of Airline High School in Bossier City, Pugh was named the 2001 Louisiana-Lafayette Department of Communication Outstanding Graduate. He completed requirements for a master’s of science in sport management from the Mark H. McCormack Department of Sport Management at the University of Massachusetts in 2015.

Bud Denega

Sports Information Graduate Assistant Bud Denega joined Northwestern State in August of 2020 after one year as the Assistant Sports Information Director at Ohio Northern University in Ada, Ohio. While at Ohio Northern, Denega was the primary contact for men’s and women’s soccer, women’s basketball and baseball while also lending a hand in all 23 sports, as needed. Before Ohio Northern, Denega was a sports reporter for five years at three different newspaper publications. He worked at The Sheridan Press in Sheridan, Wyoming, The Laredo Morning Times in Laredo, Texas, and The Minot Daily News in Minot, North Dakota. During his time as a reporter, Denega won multiple writing honors from the Wyoming Press Association. He Won Sports Feature of the Year in 2018, Columnist of the Year in 2019 while also taking second place in Sport News Reporting and Column Writing in 2018.
