New York Fashion Week Rinat Brodach – “Moving Forward” We met with Rinat Brodach, a young budding fashion designer last year when we were out in New York. Rinat who previously served in the Israeli Air Force uses her designs to express herself. This year it will be ten years since she left Israel and her latest collection tells that story. We were excited to catch up with Rinat to find out what she has been up to and what more she has planned for the brand. What has been happening with you since we last spoke? Since we last spoke in September quite a few things have changed. My brand and I have both been evolving and growing. Rinat Brodach LLC is now carried in multiple stores (hooray) and this current season will have new forms of draping and colour incorporated! I have been learning a lot more about the fashion business and owning my own business which has allowed me to expand my brand. I feel like I’m slowly but surely becoming a pro.

movements of fabrics. Really learning to tune in and let it do what it wants to do while still exploring more techniques of draping. The growth of my techniques is apparent from collection to collection What advice would you give to other young designers trying to make it out there? One should know it is not an easy or quick process. There will be a lot of people that will question your passion; you have to move forward and have faith in your craft. Another thing that you should also keep in mind is starting your own line takes more than designing skills. You must have an understanding of everything from business, to accounting, to marketing. Educate yourself in a little bit of all three to prevent being taken advantage of. Prepare yourself through internships and studies. Remember you have to think fast and find creative solutions to overcome obstacles.

So what is the inspiration behind your latest collection? My SS16 collection titled "Moving Forward" was inspired by the 10th year anniversary of my departure from home. This line encompasses many memories and lessons that I have experienced in my 10 years of travel and growth. I have also included natural movement in this collection. We speak, write and move in rhythm and shapes; this can be seen in everyday life and in "Moving Forward". How do you think you have developed since you started your label? Every day that I enter the studio is an evolving experience for me and my brand. I have been exploring and mastering the manipulation of the

Demur Magazine What are you hoping to achieve by the end of this year? I would like to make the Rinat Brodach brand global by the end of this year. I have expanded to multiple locations in the East Coast but I want to continue to become a familiar name across the U.S. and eventually across the seas. You can see more of Rinat’s work at www.rinatbrodach.com. Rinat will also be showcasing at the Tranoi show in New York this month.

MAHIRI TAKES it to

NEW YORK

Mahiri Takai, the artistic energy behind MKLinks Models/ Mahiritakai Enterprises, is a young ,driven fashion industry prodigy who is young and driven. He has worked with some of the top fashion designers, supermodels and celebrity personalities in fashion and entertainment, gaining him many stamps on his passport from travelling to places such as London, France, New York, Spain, L.A and many more. Now Mahiri is taking his fashion label to the city that never sleeps, New York. In his excitement Mahiri shared his journey with us. On starting his line…I wanted to start my own line because I was tired of seeing the same things day in and day out. I wanted to wear things that made a statement and stood out. I also am a fan of comfort. His label is different from the others…we have found a way to make man feel comfortable and stylish. Our fashion line infuses design flair mixes along with a wide range of architecture. The highlight of this journey for Mahiri was in… finding the inspiration from different concepts. Sometimes that means getting really quiet and listening for that small steel voice inside and moving only when you know. My inspiration for this line has to be my relationship with the Lord. I know that sounds cliché. However the black and white theme comes from knowing that there are no grey areas with God either you are for him or against him. I AM FOR HIM! What can we expect to see this season from your collection? Mahiri Takai's unique designs have been influenced by my love of architecture and cultural Cree. My team have also allowed me to draw inspiration and creativity from their day to day experiences. Lastly Mahiri says "the thing that makes me arise daily with a smile on my face, even if there's no money in my pocket is the love I feel from my number one supporter and partner my wife!"

This month, New York City has a lot to offer. Take these four young, handsome guys, based in Manhattan, known as Vineyard. They are here to change the world, one track at a time. Since Vineyard released their album “Heartland” earlier this year, life has been sweet. It seems the fruits of their labour are starting to pay off. We were thrilled when the guys spared us a few minutes to talk about their inspirations and dream collaborations. Our inspiration comes from…

Life. We try to write music from everyday experiences and struggles that we face, in the hope that someone can relate to it and work through their lives. Our dream music collaboration would be with…

Tupac. Definitely. We would even accept a collab with his hologram Our favourite performance to date was…

With Lindsey Stirling about a year ago. About 4,000 people showed up to see her set, and she and her crew were so nice and great to work with. If we could be any fashion item we would be

Crocs. Nothing says style and comfort (and shame) like foam on your feet. To other bands just starting out we would say…

We are still starting out as well and we are learning every day. What we have learnt so far, is to just put your nose to the grind stone and just keep working hard. You'll have to find your own way, we don't think that there is a set way to 'make it' anymore and perhaps that worries a lot of the folks in the industry, however it is an exciting time. Or don't work hard, work really smart, and do it that way. It's an exciting time to be in this industry, the rules are all kind of tossed aside and you just need to find what works for you. Keep up to date with the boys on their website and social media: www.vineyardtheband.com Twitter : @vineyardtheband

Dru Hill

Dru Hill

We had the honour to chat to SisQo, Jazz, Nokio, and Tao, also known as Dru Hill! After a rather long hiatus, the guys reunited to record their fourth album together. The new album is a mixture of R&B, rock, hip-hop, and romance in the true Dru Hill style. Of course we had a few questions we needed to ask. D: What have you guys been up to since you have been away? We have been campaigning for the return of great music! We've been out on the road for the last 7 years just letting people know that we are still here and ready to give you what you need. D: What have you got planned for your comeback? Well we've been back but we are gearing up for our 20th anniversary which is next year. We have a lot of great things in store for that including a few surprises.

14

D:How do you think you will adapt to the many changes that have taken place in the music industry? We've been independent for the last 7 years so we have had a chance to adapt to the new business model and work the kinks out. Radio and record sales aren't the same but we are one of the few acts from our era that still tour on a constant basis and the younger generation loves us so I think we'll be ok as long as we can hit the stage and show people what we can do. D: Your music contributed to many baby making sessions, how does that make you feel? It's a great thing to be so connected to moments in people's lives.

D:Do you still have the same working relationship as a group? We have always been brothers so we operate like a family. We do what we have to do to make sure our own families are straight. You have your good times and bad times but at the end of the day you are still family. No matter what's going on when it's time to sing, that's all that matters. RevMuzik is an entertainment service that carters to helping indie musicians and the nightlife industry by professional collaborations between both industries to grow and sustain individuals / businesses alike. RevMuzik is creating a system for better market knowledge for casual musicians who are hoping to start or create a career through music, keeping the collaboration in a better demographic value for easy and an almost predictable outcome. We reached out to Andrew Dunyo of RevMuzik and he gave us the lowdown on their venture.

RevMuzik

Opening doors for artists

RevMuzik is not your typical music streaming or music downloading website, we want to feature a better business and entertainment environment for all (business, musicians, listener or casual listeners). RevMuzik is creating a detailed examination for musical knowledge for better prediction and genre adaptation. RevMuzik for musicians from all walks of life What’s your favourite genre of music? As a music lover and participant in music creations, I have come to appreciate a wide range of genre of music, but my preferred genres are as order reggae, hip hop, classic, country and afro beats. What made you want to start up this business? Coming up with the vision for Revmuzik was not an easy process, it all started when I saw talented musicians (both known and unknown) lose their hope and dreams of making it in the industry.. I noticed the problem and thought to myself; how can we create a system where we can have a financial middle class for musicians in the industry, whilst offering more options to the musicians. With this problem I needed to find another industry that needed support from other industries to truly grow and the club/ bar industry is what we needed to help push and support upcoming musicians. Not only will this program be for established clubs and bars, but for new businesses and small businesses in the industry. I saw a problem of unemployment and music is the only way out, most people feel they can escape and I want to help with that.

For more info on the progress of Revmuzik, you can have a look at our Instagram page "revmuzik.com" or our skeleton website "Revmuzik", also Facebook and Twitter @ revmuzik.

Scoop London Scoop London is a new addition to Scoop, the International Trade Show. Scoop London will take place during London Fashion Week SS16. We have been so excited about Scoop since it first launched in 2011, that we felt the need to find out more from Karen Radley, the lady who started all of this up.

What was your main inspiration in starting up Scoop? My inspiration behind setting up Scoop International Fashion Shows In a word, frustration! I came back to the industry after a bit of a break as an agent. I was really excited about the brands I was working with but I quickly realised catwalk shows aside, London was missing something important: there simply wasn’t a single event catering for the market sector I was interested in – namely second lines, bridge collections and niche designers who might not have UK representation. Encouraged by a chat with a friend in the exhibitions business, I decided since London lacked a suitable forum for the brands I represented, I’d create one myself – and do it on my own terms. The idea snowballed from there and I launched the first edition of Scoop in February 2011. Who was Scoop designed to benefit? Scoop benefits buyers, fashion influencers, retailers and the fashion press - where else to see current trends, colour for the forthcoming season. What do you think makes Scoop so successful each year? Buyers are now becoming more open to finding and sourcing new talent and hopefully we provide this at Scoop. What can we look forward to at the show in September? I am very much looking forward to September as our new show Scoop London launches for the first time. Scoop London will showcase some exceptional new talent, many of whom have never shown in the UK before.

Mojiana Designs - Galaxy Collection As we were out and about gallivanting in our usual travels, we met this delightful, approachable and passionate lady who left quiet an impression on us. Moji Salehi who is the brains and beauty behind Mojiana a British jewellery and handbag brand. With a background in interior design and textile printing, she formed her craft and business academy Moji Designs in 2008, as an outlet for her natural creative flair. Seven years later Moji talks us through her brand that is continuing to grow and her latest collection. D: What is the concept behind your latest collection? M: The concept behind Mojiana Galaxy collection is to create beautiful and unique contemporary jewellery using the simplest design elements; the circle and the line. I find that the simplest design elements create a strong impact and identity for my brand. D: How hard was the transition from interior design to jewellery and handbag designing? M: The transition is a project in progress and by that I mean that I am always drawing on my interior design experience whilst finding new ways to develop Mojiana. D: How did you feel when you received such positive feedback from your first collection? M:It’s a very rewarding feeling to get affirmation and acknowledgement for my work by others, especially those with an experienced eye. Like any artist, I work making creations for myself first and then offer them to others when complete, and so if my designs are warmly received, it’s very gratifying. D: What do you want people to take away

from your latest collection? M: As all my products, I would hope that they would appreciate the craftsmanship and the use of leather in an innovative and unique way. More than that I would hope the wearer sees the simply beauty in a piece and that they feel empowered whilst wearing it. D: You say each piece takes days to put together, how long does it take you to put together a whole collection? M: It’s a lengthy process to take a new collection from concept through to completion. It involves choosing the right technique, materials and colours that are suitable for both the collection and the season. Along the way there will be designs and colours that don’t quite hit the spot and it’s crucial that anything that is not quite right is discarded, no matter how much time has been spent on it. D: What does the future hold for Mojiana Designs? M: Whilst I feel very optimistic about the future, I don’t set boundaries or limits of where Mojiana can go. I make my pieces, people love them and wear them and where that takes us both is part of the wonder of Mojiana.

Demur Art Collective Gustavo Romano was lucky enough to grow up in a home where creativity was always nearby, and it grew deep roots in his roots, since a very early age which we can see through his work now. His family would turn simple trips to the beach on a quest seeking treasures hidden by pirates or beach Olympic Games, with medals and more. Through this he has learned that creativity has the power to transform people and the world, it gives us the ability to imagine new possibilities and connect dots. He soon graduated at Fine Arts School of the University of Lisbon, seeking what he really wanted to do with life, knowing that the creative way was the direction to go. It seems all he ever wanted the most was to keep learning new things, learn to play guitar, drums, piano etc. At the end of the course he was still lost and moved to London, seeking to be “the traveller in search of signification”. He quickly realized that to be inspired is the ultimate antidote to existential despair. Moved by the distance, sadness and love he started drawing furiously everything and anything. So he finally found his style, sharp strokes made with anger and despair. He found out that it's only when we are lost that we are found, and perfection is not only about control is also about letting it go. “I think we should follow our bliss and the universes will open doors for you where there were only walls.”

Clustr

What makes Clustr different from all the other apps coming out right now? The mobile social network space is very saturated but Clustr is different than its competitors for three main reasons. The first is anonymity. When accessing the Clustr map, users see Clustrs of people at specific venues and locations. However, the only information users see about the Clustr is the age/ gender of the users and if they are a Facebook friend. Aside from these two details, identity is kept completely anonymous. Other mobile applications in this space require users to display their location and identity at all times. Due to the privacy these apps neglect to give to users, people are driven away from these technologies, rendering them useless. Clustr is the first app in the space that incentivizes users to use the app by prioritizing the privacy of the user, while simultaneously allowing users to see where members of their social network are located. Secondly, Clustr employs an Application Programing Interface known as the FourSquare API. Although many apps use the FourSquare API for geotag generating in their app, Clustr is the first app to utilize the software passively. What that means is that users just open the app and then the software places the user in the venue they are in, as opposed to making users login every time they enter a new venue. This is useful because as users move locations the Clustr map gets updated.

45

Clustr

For those who don’t understand what Clustr is, tell us a bit about it Clustr is an anonymous map-based utility used to find Facebook friends around you, in real time. Clustr pins users to specific venues and displays their age and gender to other users on the app. The more people at a given venue, the bigger the Clustr will appear on the map. Other than age and gender, identity is kept completely anonymous on the app. If you have a Facebook friend active, it will be displayed with an icon. You can request to reveal the identity of only Facebook friends on the app and if they accept, you will be able to see each other on the map for 3 hours. Co-Founder Danny explains more.

Furthermore, this technology logs users into exact venues as opposed to neighbourhoods or general locations (i.e. Snapchat). Whereas the geotag function of apps like Snapchat is fun and novel, Clustr provides information that is actually useful to users for planning a day or night out. Thirdly, Clustr has a time limit set up so inactive users vanish from the map. Location tracking is a very useful mechanism but users tend not to want to divulge their location at all times. Clustr solves this issue by putting in a three hour timer within the Clustr map. After three hours, the user is taken off of the map and they will not be displayed again until they reopen the app. For example, let's say you’re just getting home after a night out with friends where you were using Clustr. Once you go to bed and don't access the app for three hours, you are no longer displayed on the map. When you re-open the app in the morning, a fresh session starts. What future plans are there for Clustr? Clustr is an innovative application that is ahead of its time. This is the first time mobile users are seeing technology like this. As innovators of this new application and believers in the potential of anonymous location tracking, we are seeing how our first user base reacts to our version1 prototype. Once we have developed our user-base we will look to redevelop the app and add new advanced features. We wanted to test our user-thesis on a simple version of the app. You can expect all the bells and whistles imaginable in version2 and beyond. Lastly why should people download Clustr? Simply put, Clustr was born out of a need for generally social people like myself and my co-founders. This app has the potential to vastly improve nightlife for all of our users by making it easier to meet up with people they know, and people who are looking for a similar experience. There is huge upside for location tracking but no one has been able to tap into the space correctly. We are incentivizing users to use the app and although the technology is innovative, the more users means the more use people will have for the application.
