Equip yourself for 2016 2016

is here and you have your list of So things that you want to achieve. That’s beautiful, you say to yourself “this is my year!” Statistics show 92% of all New Year’s resolutions fail. We all want to be a part of that 8% of people who go for it and kick ass! We give you a list of 6 things to equip your year and make sure you reach that goal/s.

1. Where is your list?

The first step in achieving a goal is knowing what you want. What better way to be sure than getting it down on paper. So get a piece of paper and write down what you want to achieve for 2016.Fold up that note and put it away, somewhere, where you can’t look at it every day. At the end of the year bring out that piece of paper and see if you have achieved your goal. By not being able to look at that piece of paper every day, you will relieve yourself of the pressure to achieve and instead do things at a comfortable pace.

2. Make a playlist of upbeat songs that motivate you. Use your Spotify or Tidal account, whatever you are into and make a little playlist with all the songs that get you going. Music stirs up emotions and with upbeat energetic music you are only going to feel pumped up and ready to take on the world. The right kind of music can spark creativity.

3. What’s your plan? A plan gives you direction. Your plan does not have to be clear and concise as that can be cleared up as you go along. You can also rewrite and re-write your plan as many times as you want. The most important thing is that you have a plan. Once you have your plan, you will know where to start and once you start you are on your way.

06

4. Reward yourself.

As you work hard towards achieving your goals you need to stay motivated and have something to look forward to. How about planning an exciting activity for yourself every quarter? It can be a short break away, a night out with friends or just nice night in with a takeaway. Whatever you like to do to relax. It’s important that you find a balance between work and downtime. By rewarding yourself, you are encouraging yourself to keep going. You should celebrate all your achievements no matter how trivial.

5. Get a partner An accountability partner is someone who shares similar goals with you. With an accountability partner you can set each other small tasks and then you can review your accomplishments together. You can even compete with your accountability partner if your goals are similar; everyone likes to win (as long as you keep it friendly). You can share ideas and knowledge and when one is feeling down, you’ve got that other person to pick you up.

6. Time Time waits for no man and no man should wait on time. Time is very important do not waste it on anything that is unimportant. This does not mean however that you should make yourself so busy that you do not have time to enjoy your life or your loved ones around you. Use your time wisely, ensure your time is spent on the things you will look back at and smile. That means no time for petty arguments or anything that does not contribute to your goal. You have to ask yourself where is the value in what I am doing now? Time is your most precious resource in whatever you wish to achieve.

We would love to hear from you throughout the year if any of these tips are working for you. Let us know on social media @DemurMagazine using the hashtag #demur2016equip

Rio 2016 – summer Olympics This year promises to be a big year for sports, with the Euro 2016 and the summer Olympics in Brazil. What a perfect excuse to get yourself over to sunny Rio this August. With over 10,000 athletes taking part and 28 sports to be played, there is something for everyone.

Log out of Netflix…go and workout!

14

Studies show that the nation is becoming lazier and unhealthy and we would choose a Netflix binge day than take our dog for a walk to the park. Sad but true. For your own good, make a plan to watch less telly and look after your heart. You do need to be alive to achieve all your dreams and aspirations. A 15-20 minute walk a day can do you some good. Exercise refreshes your mind and with a fresh mind you can become a new person. If all else fails just a buy a stationary bike and that will allow you to cycle whilst you watch your favourite TV programme

Lauren Cecchi New York is the epitome of what a handbag brand should be. The brand is fun, exciting and inclusive. 2015 was an exciting year for LCNY as we saw them branch out to the European market. We caught up with the lady herself, Lauren Cecchi to hear all about her plans for LCNY this year.

What does 2016 hold for LCNY ? In 2016, Lauren Cecchi New York is focusing on bringing our clients and fans more photos, videos, content, and surprises on our new website launching on January 1st! We are going to give our customers what they want, when they want in 2016!

Last year we saw you in Europe, what do you have to offer in Europe that you don’t have in the US? Yes, it was great to see you while we were in London! We offer everything in Europe that we also offer in the US. It is unfortunate when you want something and can’t get it because it is only sold in store so we offer everything online and ship internationally so our clients don’t miss out on the handbags they want.

Now that you have been in the industry for a little while, what is your current vision for the brand? We will be launching our third spring collection in 2016 so we have been around for a bit. Time flies when you are creating fun handbags! My vision for the New Year is to create more handbags and accessories specifically tailored to my client’s wants and needs. We will be rolling out the Bella Backpack, Make Up bags, extremely long tassels, wallets and much more.

If you could name one of your handbags after a celebrity, who would it be and why? If you could name one of your handbags after a celebrity, who would it be and why? that is in jeans or wearing a Dior gown. She can pull off anything!

16

What key items should every lady have in their LCNY handbag? I think a girl can never go wrong carrying her favourite shade of lipstick, sunglasses, a Metrocard for the New Yorkers, her LCNY cardholder, keys (something I always forget), water to hydrate and business cards because you never know when you are going to meet someone fabulous!

You can shop LCNY on www.laurencecchi.com

EL VOYAGE EL VOYAGE as the name suggests, is all about style and travel something that we are rather passionate about here at Demur. Yenifer Lam and Vicky Cohen the founders of El Voyage decided to get the whole world involved in their adventure. Armed with their passion for travelling, style and 20 years of global sourcing experience between them, the two ladies decided to set up an online boutique which features a special curation of woven accessories, leather goods and coffee from artisans around the world, EL VOYAGE.

Scarves and Guatemalan coffee, now that's an interesting combination. Why did you choose to put these two together? It was natural when we started EL VOYAGE to include these products in our vision. Vicky and I said “We want to build a company, that supports small microproducers and creates beautiful products, while we get to travel.” Next step was to decide what products? Well with more than 25 years combined experience in the fashion industry; we decided to start with accessories and it had to be weavings. This is a dying art and we are confident we can put it on the map again. We highlight the array of colours, texture and yarns; whilst bringing a relevant product to appeal to today’s consumer. Ahhh coffee, I must confess that was bit of a personal affair, I love coffee and have been going to plantations in Guatemala, studying the art of coffee for some years...but Vicky is always 100% supportive of my crazy ideas. Vicky always manages to take it to the next level, so we set up the process so it could be Kosher certified so we can service a wider market.

19

As travellers you want to pack light, but yet always have some comfort that makes you feel at home, especially if you travel as much as I do. For me it is my EL VOYAGE coffee and weaving. I use my weaving on the plane as my blanket, in the hotel as my bed throw and on the go as my scarf, and every morning I get ready and have a sip my cup of coffee. A little clichĂŠ but it makes me feel at home anywhere I go.

You say you make scarves for the seasoned traveller, what makes someone a seasoned traveller? I have a large list to share but let me share the essence. Someone that can connect with people in any part of the world, willing to taste and experience the local way; and while they keep their ways and opinions, they are open to seeing and hearing what the rest of the world has to offer without being judgmental. When a well seasoned traveller comes across our products they are usually familiar with the country, techniques and more. Most of the time the conversation is taken to the next level, often sharing our travel adventures and the EL VOYAGE vision. If you ask me there is not one definition, but I know that those that are seasoned travellers know exactly what I’m talking about.

How do the experiences of an experienced traveller influence your designs? Nature, colour, flavour and aromas, as well as the style of the area that I visit influence every collection. I had the opportunity to live in Barbados and our collection for next year definitely conveys beach, tropics, yet serenity and light colours of the sky and ocean. It was amazing to experience this beautiful country. I always remember that at the end we want to offer a classic and minimalist product, because as a traveller I want pieces I can use over and over again...Travel lots, Travel light!

20

Why is it important to you that all your products are handmade, do you think your customers appreciate this more? When we founded EL VOYAGE, Vicky and I both agreed we did not want mass produced items, that is precisely why we walked away from the industry. We don’t want to produce a million units and sell a $10.00 scarf, we want to sell art. A piece that is either a limited edition, small run or one of a kind piece. I hunt for my pieces around the world when shopping; brand and price does not matter, it’s falling in love with a piece I know is me. It represents my style, mood and my uniqueness.

Some consumers definitely do appreciate this more, they actually look for this, others it’s just simple you fall in love with the product, and then the back end story is a plus. For us it was part of the foundation of our company and artisans will always handcraft our products. I have seen the reaction of people when choosing their pieces at EL VOYAGE and they love them, some customers keep coming for more and asking to extend the collection to design other accessories, they love it so much. You should see the process to make these pieces, it’s quite complex and wonderful, we only present one collection a year. We can’t wait to showcase our 2016 | 2017 Collection.

Bianca Miller talks nude hosiery I am an entrepreneur; I started my first business The Be- Group in 2012, helping people understand their personal brand and showing them how to market themselves. We work with Universities, schools and corporate organisations. During my time working with all these people, I had a real issue where I couldn’t buy skin tone tights. I ended up buying black tights like everyone else who has this issue does or just going bare legged. I felt really strongly about this and then one day my fiancé came to me and said “Bianca, they are taking in applications for The Apprentice, do you want to apply?” I turned around and immediately said “No”, I didn’t want to be famous, I didn’t want to be on TV and I didn’t want to be scrutinised by the 10 million people that watch the show every week. At the same time this was an amazing opportunity in front of me and a great platform to get the investment I needed to redefine nude. As you know I went on the show, I battled for 12 weeks against some tough competition and eventually got to the final where I was able to pitch my idea Bianca Miller London, a hosiery range that redefines what nude is and creates a range of shades that are acceptable for all women of all skin tones. Although I didn’t win, my passion was there. I really wanted to be that person who took quite a simple concept fundamentally and revolutionised it, because nude by the Oxford dictionary definition is a pinkish beige colour and we are not all like that when we are naked in the nude. So why would the world think that was an acceptable way of pitching nude in any environment? Now Bianca Miller London offers eight shades of nude catering to all women of all skin tones and I am really proud to be a part of that movement.

Who is Bianca Miller London for? Bianca Miller London is for all women. With eight unique shades of nude and due to the sheer density of the material each shade complements about five different skin tones, so that’s about 45 different shades meaning we have a shade for everyone. That was the whole purpose of Bianca Miller London, to create something that was inclusive, that wasn’t about women of colour or women who are paler than average. I wanted everyone to feel they could buy a pair of tights with the right shade for them.

3 things that you have learnt through Bianca Miller London. I have learnt how really tough the fashion industry is, it is such a difficult business to crack. It is so difficult to create something that is innovative, new and interesting and something that will be accepted by the fashion industry. I wanted to be the person that brought that change and sometimes that can be extremely hard. There are times when I feel like I’m on a one woman crusade to change history, but it has been an amazing journey. So three things I have learnt, fashion is hard, innovation does not mean people are going to open their doors to you and finally determination and passion is what keeps you going and drives you and what creates change.

27

What motivates you as a human being and as an entrepreneur? My passion keeps me going. When I started The Be-Group, my personal branding business, my passion was to help people understand how to market themselves for a better future. How could they create a marketing strategy around their own personal brand that would help them get that job, keep that job, climb the career ladder and reach their trajectory? With Bianca Miller London it’s the same drive and passion. It came from a personal experience, not being able to find the right shade of tights for me but the reality being that they were plenty of other women going through the same thing. It’s that, that keeps me going, working at ridiculous hours in the night, getting up really early and responding to emails whilst I’m supposed to be on holiday.

Because of The Apprentice you were able to.... I was able to launch Bianca Miller London. I don’t have any regrets and I am not embarrassed to say that The Apprentice has given me an amazing platform. I probably wouldn’t have been able to do it otherwise with the same initial following . The Apprentice gave me an opportunity to pitch something that I was passionate about.

You can purchase your nude tights from www.biancamillerlondon.com and watch our talk with Bianca on our Youtube Channel :DemurMagazine

H&M announces the winner of the H&M Design Award 2016

Hannah Jinkins was announced as the winner of the H&M Design Award 2016. Jinkins, a graduate from the Royal College of Art, London, was selected from eight finalists by an international jury that included amongst others Kate Bosworth, Olivier Rousteing and Nick Knight. As the H&M Design Award winner, Jinkins receives a one-year mentorship from H&M, a prize sum of €50,000 and the opportunity to develop her winning collection to be sold in selected H&M stores as well as online in autumn 2016. “Hannah is really brilliant. She has the ability to balance so many difficult things, like the raw with the refined, or something very grown up with something more youthful. I found choosing the winner of the H&M Design Award very difficult, because the calibre of the finalists is up there with the best in fashion,” says Kate Bosworth. Eight finalists selected from 40 of the world’s most respected design schools yesterday took part in a fashion show at The Orangery in Kensington Palace, London. Each finalist presented four looks from their graduation collections to an audience that included the jury and, for the first time, invited members of the global fashion media. 24-year old Hannah Jinkins, from London, graduated from the Royal College of Art in 2015. Her collection created a balance between tough fabrics like raw denim and inner linings of silk. Her silhouettes are oversized yet feminine, showing a real understanding of the female body. The H&M Design Award was founded in 2012, underlining H&M’s strong commitment to the future of fashion. It is open to students and graduates of the world’s most respected design colleges in 16 countries, with the winner each year chosen by a highly-respected jury of international fashion experts. The H&M Design Award 2016 featured students from the highest number of colleges ever, with schools from Austria, Belgium, China, Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Iceland, Italy, the Netherlands, Sweden, Switzerland, the UK, the US, Japan and Korea. The eight selected finalists each won £35,000. To apply visit designaward.hm.com

Winter in a city getting to you? How about escaping into the wilds of the Highlands? Every year there are reports of people getting lost in the snow and ice. Mountain rescue callouts are predominantly about navigation errors. To make winter a safer place, it is a good idea to book a guide to lead or alternatively join a group heading out into the hills. Some groups are organised by companies on commercial trips, others are groups of friends or clubs. Nonetheless there is safety in numbers. This year there are winter wilderness expeditions running under the guidance of Andy Bateman of Scot Mountain Holidays in the Cairngorms and Glen Affric. There's also usually a trip to Knoydart, home to Britain's most remote pub; however there is a major reforestation project going on there this year which makes it less attractive to visit and all the accommodation will be taken by the forestry workers. Life will be reduced to basics during the expedition and the only concerns will be: eat - sleep - hike (repeat). The perfect way to clear the mind and return feeling completely refreshed after only a few short days.

Winter Expeditions in 2016 1. Southern Cairngorms Winter Odyssey - a rare opportunity to experience one of the remotest

parts of the CairngormsNational Park at a time when the mountains can be at their most glorious.
