CONTENTS / EDITORS LETTER We are only a mere 8 weeks away from 2015. It's that time when we start to panic, thinking about what we have done or not done with our year, even though we just had a whole year to worry about that. Some of us start to panic, asking "will we make it on to the best of 2014 lists ?", whether it be among friends or colleagues. This is our last issue for the year and we are mildly impressed about our achievements and are hoping for bigger things in 2015.

In this issue we bring you our fashion hawks for 2015 featuring two stars from Project Runway. Of course we leave you salivating with our best eateries around town for Christmas and Erwin Michel attacks our fashion senses in our Art Begat Fashion feature. We certainly look forward to seeing you in 2015, we are happy with this year and ready for the next. Are you? Noreen Chada

Fashion Hawks

Fashion is an ever changing game and there is always a new trend to follow. Fashion Hawks brings you some of the designers who will be credible for these new trends. These are the designers to keep your eyes peeled out for. Adnan BAYYAT

Whatever outfit Lady Gaga steps out in it always causes us to just go on ahead and celebrate fashion. Take the 50,000 metres cling film dress she wore to the launch of her Madame Tussauds waxwork. The genius designer behind this creation is Adnan Bayyat fresh out of Manchester. We first saw Adnan at Fashions’ Finest London Fashion Week S/S15 Show, where he launched his debut menswear collection which was described as “a sensational twist of tailored tartans interwoven through a spectacular show of elegance and refined splendour.” We were blown away and we knew we had to dig a bit deeper. We certainly want to see more from this zealous, creative, contemporary designer.

Fun fact: Adnan was featured on CBBC’s show Tottally Rubbish last year, making a dress from 310 plastic bottles.

Charles & RON

Charles & Ron met in Malta where they set up their first studio with no prior experience in designing. The self made designers use the Maltese culture as their influence bringing us closer to that Mediterranean lifestyle. Charles & Ron have designed for some prestigious people in Malta and they recently added bags and accessories to their collection last year. We are itching to get our hands on some of that Mediterranean influence over here in the UK.

Fun fact: The duo’s impeccable team work may well be down to the fact that they have been a couple for more than 20 years now.

Ryan LO

The magnificent wonders of Youtube. Ryan Lo was born and raised in Hong Kong. He was part of the British Fashion Council NEWGEN initiative which promotes upcoming designers. Ryan Lo’s beach themed fashion presentation at London Fashion Week was inspired by our favourite “Sex and the City” babe, Carrie Bradshaw. His designs are very much female infused and we saw this in his SS15 collection which was full of candy coated colours and girly soundtracks. He makes us girls excited about fashion and sells us a fantasy that we certainly want to run away with.

Fun fact: With many many thanks to Youtube,Ryan he taught himself how to design clothes.

Klue by Kelly Ann Kelly Ann Garforth is the young lady behind this exciting brand we stumbled upon on the net. She has a story to tell with her designs and we are all ears. The use of colour and pattern throughout her designs will certainly make you stand out in a crown and not in a bad way either. One of the main reasons we fell in love with Kelly’s designs is, all her clothes look like she is having fun with what she is doing, when she is creating. We can see the passion and the enthusiasm that goes into her work. Perhaps it’s not every day that you walk into a clothes shop and ask for the item that is oozing with the most passion and enthusiasm. I guess we are just different here at Demur. Fun fact: Her clothes are made right here in England in Yorkshire which makes them organic and of high quality.

Misha NONOO

She knows how to make a lady look well sophisticated. She has dressed the likes of Kirsten Stewart and Gwyneth Palthrow. There is a lot to be said for Misha Nonoo. Her designs are rather provocative, not to mention her daring act of having Brooklyn artist Dustin Yellin walking down the catwalk in one of her designs casually sipping a coffee. As you do. She also collaborated with Yellin on her SS15 collection and it is from then that she caught our attention.

Fun fact: She also happens to be part of the CFDA 2014-2016 Fashion Incubator Program and she managed to get Lana Del Ray to sing at her wedding.

Michael Costello He says he aims to make women feel beautiful with his designs. We do love a charmer. He was a finalist on Project Runway and he has Kim Kardashian , Beyonce and Paris Hilton wearing his designs. He is well on his way up. Michael is quiet a character, he is rumoured to have his own reality show airing soon. He once had to dispel rumours that he was straight/heterosexual. Michael we love you for making us girls feel beautiful.

Fun fact: The entrepreneurial bug has been in him from a young age. Michael set up his first shop when he was 15.

Music Hawks

We introduce you to some of the future hit makers before they even release the hits. Below is just some of the artist who we feel are worth a listen. In no particular order they are: Moses SUMNEY

“Mid City Island” brings a cool and mellow sound with a nostalgic feel to it. Moses grew up in Los Angeles and Ghana and he kind of reminds us of Frank Ocean, that fresh raw talent just waiting for someone to discover. We can see Moses’ strong work ethic which has already taken him very far as we saw him as a supporting act at Beck’s concert last year. He is certainly a one man band with some garments to die for.

Fun fact: Armed with his guitar and impeccable vocal skills, Moses Sumney made his four track EP in his bedroom.

Logan STRYX

This lad plays the guitar that accompanies his powerful voice on his soft melodic tracks. Logan is currently touring around the UK whilst working on his debut album, “Blood, Sweat, Tears, Love, Laugh, Fears”. We are excited about Logan because his lyrics are sincere, emotive and engaging. We also have a feeling he is going to go far in the music industry.

Fun fact: His last name is pronounced Strikes.

NONONO

Swedish pop trio NONONO is comprised of vocalist Stina Wappling, and production duo Astma & Rocwell. Stina started off as a songwriter and met Astma & Rocwell through her publisher as they were looking for a vocalist. Their own music can be described in their own words as ”Urban – Indie, Melancholy yet hopeful with a bassy beat oriented foundation”. The name NONONO comes from the group having to say no to music that they were forced to do. They sound like a rebellious lot and we want to hear more.

Fun fact: Stina is a Brighton University Psychology graduate who also works in a mental hospital alongside music making.

Katty XIOMARA Born in Venezuela to Portuguese parents, Katty moved to Portugal at the tender age of 17. This is where her brand Katty Xiomara was born with the assistance of her husband. In our digging and searching here are just some of the things we found out about Katty Xiomara: "Portugal is my parents country of origin. I knew the country from previous visits and it has always fascinated me. I decided I would take a longer visit and this is where I studied fashion and I founded my brand. After this, the decision to stay wasn't so hard, I was adopted by the culture and the charisma of its climate and its people. Professionally there are so many possibilities to explore. It is one of the countries in Europe with better quality in the textile and footwear."

"I think what makes my brand unique is the fact that it is so personal. Actually, I don't feel the need to put a division between my work and my personal life, in my world the two are one and feed on each other, organizing your resources never run out..... With this I do not mean that the collections are a reflection of myself, but the feelings I have on today's woman, what it is, but especially that you want to be."

"In recent my collections have come to incorporate many geometric elements, in this collection we wanted to smooth out these elements. We show the construction behind these colored blocks leaving the rows of structures in sight. The geometries were lighter and more transparent, to make them more organic melt 'em its contents, softening their outlines. This is reflected mainly in printed but also in shapes and overlays of fabrics. The colours are quite fresh with contrasts within the same shades. Light pink and coral pink, light blue and dark blue, white, grey and black. The fabrics are lighter and more manageable." "New York is a city with a unique identity. It is the perfect city to reach the rest of the world."

"I identify a lot with Twiggy’s irreverence in the 60 's and with the elegance of Audrey Hepburn in 50’s. Nowadays it is hard to find this irreverence, subtle, simple and elegance like that. I think Taylor Swift has a delicate mixture of these two iconic figures." "My husband is a graphic designer, so we complement excellently. He represents the graphic and more serious side with mathematical thinking of the mark. With a special look masculine which makes the nearest critic."

When preparing for a fashion show "The most important thing is to have all the parts ready and coordinated with each other. Prepare the looks and the exit order. The fitting is always a great deal of stress, because each model has a different style and ways to present the look, there is always the need to adjust the pieces and when you're away from home this process is more difficult."

"The next collection, is always the next step. The desire to grow in new markets like America and Asia."

STELLA NOLASCO Stella Nolasco has built a rather wonderful reputation for herself in her native country Puerto Rico as the most sought after fashion designer. She has dressed the likes of Beyonce and Kelly Reilly, Whoopie Goldberg also graced the front row at her Spring/Summer 15 showcase during New York Fashion Week. We were delighted Stella could spare time to have a chat with us. D:“Puerto Rico’s most avantgarde designer”, how does that make you feel? S: Well, I do not consider my style to be avantgarde, but I understand I have always tried to be innovative while maintaining the essence of my romantic but modern style . D:Talk us through your collaboration with John Malkovich. S: It was a great experience for myself , after almost 20 years producing my own fashion shows to be able to be "the assistant " . I realized I love every aspect of this business, plus ended up with a great new friend. D:What was going through your mind when you knew you were designing your SS15 collection for Mercedes Benz Fashion Week? S: I tried to express in one collection the story of who Stella is as a designer. I was conscious this was going to be the most important fashion show so far in my career. As a creative person it was a big challenge to keep the collection cohesive and small, and not over speak. D:What did you want people to take away from your SS15 collection? S: I would like people to perceive from my ss2015 , The Saints of My Devotion collection, an experience of beauty, femininity, and delicate , sensual modernism , which defines my designs. D: Who is your ideal client? S: My ideal client is a self confident contemporary woman, who hasn't lost her belief in romance. D:What’s next on the agenda for Stella Nolasco? S: Hollywood !
