DISCOVER THE 30TH ANNIVERSARY SPECIAL EDITION It’s been 30 years since Peugeot’s legendary 205 GTi hot hatchback was introduced. To celebrate the anniversary, Peugeot have cooked up something new. You’re already familiar with the basic Peugeot 208, which brought style and sophistication to the supermini segment. The retrofuturistic design was a hit with critics and the public alike, but it’s the high-performance 208 GTi that spirited drivers hanker for. And now there’s a new 30th Anniversary Edition, directly inspired by the 205 GTi of the 1980s. Like that car, the 208 GTi 30th Anniversary sets new benchmarks for speed and fun among hatchbacks, having received a round of updates and modifications from the experts at Peugeot Sport. On the exterior, the muscular wheelarches, spoilers, sills and redesigned front and rear bumpers all combine to create an impression of power and agility. New 18-inch alloy wheels fill the arches. The GTi also receives matt-black trim elements and new colour options. The cabin is trimmed with new Alcantara bucket seats plus red and black highlights throughout the interior. For all the visual flair, the driving experience is the most important aspect of any GTi.
And the 208 is no letdown. The 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine has been tuned to produce 208bhp, 9 more than the standard model, and enough to launch the GTi from 0-60 in 6.5 seconds. Meanwhile, the tweaked chassis and big Brembo fourpiston brakes make the GTi as exhilarating in the corners as it is in a straight line. The 30th Anniversary Edition also sits 10mm lower for better roadholding performance. The most important change is in the front axle: the anniversary edition is fitted with a limited-slip differential to better distribute power between the drive wheels. The effect is a huge increase in traction, the new differential working with larger front wheels and revised suspension to keep the GTi glued to the road. Only 100 cars are coming to the UK, out of 800 total cars. 30 cars will be painted in an eye-catching metallic red and matte black two-tone colour scheme. Unveiled at the Paris Motor Show, Fiat’s 500 city car is bulking up to become the tough 500X crossover. Sharing a platform with the Jeep Renegade, there’s no doubt about the 500X Cross’s off-road ability. Fitted with a locking differential (so you don’t spin your wheels) and Drive Mode Selector (for different terrain types),
drivers can get the most out of their 500X Cross in the rough stuff. Standard 500X models get more efficient two-wheel-drive and a 6-speed manual. The best news is saved for last, though: the 500X is highly customisable. You can make the model your own with 12 exterior colours, 8 alloy wheel designs, 9 engines and
dozens of options to choose from. Chances are you won’t ever see another 500X exactly like yours – especially if you’re driving off the beaten track. The Fiat 500X goes on sale this Spring.
