INTRODUCING THE NEW PEUGEOT 308 ntroducing the next-generation Peugeot 308, the 2014 European Car of the Year. Unusually for a Peugeot, the name has been kept the same – but everything from the chassis up is new and improved. The small hatchback segment is incredibly competitive and to beat their rivals the team at Peugeot worked hard to make the new 308 more stylish, more efficient, higher quality and a better drive. You’ll have to try it for yourself to come to your own conclusion, but the facts speak for themselves. The new chassis saves 140kg of weight, though thanks to new construction techniques, it’s stronger
than before. That makes the new 308 more responsive and controlled, with shorter stopping distances and better performance. It’s also more efficient. Eight engines will be offered, mixing power and efficiency. Every diesel engine option emits 100g/ km of CO2 or less and achieves at least 70mpg, and next year’s BlueHDi model will deliver a segment-leading 91mpg. But it’s not all dry efficiency figures – the driver-focused interior comes equipped with a small steering wheel for better feel and pod-style instruments. The centre

console is dominated by an ultra-modern 9.7-inch touchscreen allowing for a mostly button-free dash. It’s a very stylish solution to the problems of cluttered modern interiors. PEUGEOT 308 EUROPEAN CAR OF THE YEAR
Whittling down a shortlist of 30 cars, 58 judges from 22 countries around Europe crowned the innovative Peugeot 308 as the European Car of the Year.
Beating the BMW i3, the Tesla Model S, Mercedes S-Class and more, the 308 took the prestigious award making radical advances in a market segment that’s normally less than exciting. In the award summary, the panel noted the new, diverse engines and use of lightweight composite materials. Maxime Picat, Peugeot’s CEO, was understandably delighted with the direction his company took with the 308.
"We made radical choices. We made it very light, and we made an interior clear of buttons,� he said. “The Peugeot lion is hungry again." The European Car of the Year Award vote is intended to provide a single, decisive winner. That the Peugeot 308 won by over 84 points (with 307 points overall) makes this this one of the clearest winners in recent years.

The space age name describes what amounts to a hatchback version of the ŠKODA Rapid saloon. Don’t assume that it’s just a slight change though: the Spaceback improves on the Rapid’s looks no end, and the slick rear hatch glass extends down the tailgate in a waterfall effect.
