This growth has been tremendous in the last two years and is now moving in the same line for service providers as well. Here’s a question for you? How is Yellow Pages getting on in your area in terms of growth and pence of every pound spent? It’s an interesting thought isn’t it? I have to confess, my curiosity got the better of me and on Saturday morning I attempted to contact my local Yellow Pages. They were shut! Next stop, their website which had a complicated box to fill out before

No wonder more and more people are moving to search ‘On line’ for what they want. This was backed up as earlier this week. The Thompson local directory arrived. I have to say I felt quite sad when I opened it. First of all it was half the size of previous versions. Plus most of the adverts were for national companies. I can’t remember the last time I looked in a paper or magazine to direct me to the best solicitor, estate agent etc. What about you? The percentage figures of money spent ‘Online’ are even higher in the United States by the way. Sharon and I work with a number of different companies. Previously we both worked in corporate life in senior positions for a long time before we started our own company. So the benefit we bring to small

organizations is big business thinking tailored to smaller companies who want to seriously accelerate their business growth. One strategy we always suggest is on line PR. The great thing is, it can be achieved for little or often no cost.

When we first did this it was a mine field! Thankfully by trial and error we found a great company where you can actually track your own statistics as well as importantly including your company information and the all important link back to your site. It has instructional videos and will even allow you to add images. Remember, visual media such as photos and video are becoming very relevant in Google’s eyes. What I love it that you can submit a free press release, all done and dusted within a matter of minutes. They also have a premium service that starts from as little as one dollar. Of course PR should be just one element of a targeted promotional strategy. If you want your sales people to convert prospects more easily, having a warm client is best. A warm client would be someone who has come across you, your products and services before. The beauty of PR as it has a less “salesy” focus and can raise your credibility Tenfold. Finally, when you search on Google, you will see rankings on the left had side of your Google page and paid adverts on the right of the page. Rankings on the left hand side have more credibility particularly when they come from a news site which is deemed to be third party. I was at a seminar last weekend where Armand Morin spoke and shared some data with us that points out that the rule of thumb for “clicks” on a Google page are non paid listings on the left 80% compared to 20% for Google adwords.
