A belated Happy New Year for 2010. We decided to take an extra week off in a very snow bound Ullswater. In true marketing style we thought we would share some predictions for 2010 related to how your business might grow online and what the current trends are in the UK. Unless you have been living in a cave for the last few years I am sure you will be aware of the explosion of Google and how consumers buy and interact online. The buzz words have been social media marketing, Twitter, Facebook, Youtube to name just a few. The graph from google insights below gives you an idea on how some areas have grown. I omitted Facebook otherwise nothing else would have appeared on the graph!…………….

So what will it be worth keeping an eye on in 2010? Here are 7 areas that are set to continue growing in the UK internet landscape in 2010 and as a local business owner you can capitalise on. 1. Content Creation Search engine optimisation will continue to be a foundation for establishing an online presence. However Google is becoming wise to keywords added into a site that do not add value or could be described as keyword stuffing. If you do not actively add content of value to your clients and customers, learn how to fast! Posting on a blog or writing articles and distributing them on the internet will add massive value to you and your brand. Nowadays if people have a question what do they do? they Google it. In fact the term how do…? is searched over 9 million times a month in the UK alone. Imagine if you could answer a relevant question……….think how much traffic that could put your way? 2. Video….might have killed the radio star……………….and now could make the local business owner! Video and video marketing is big business. The growth in Youtube is astounding. In fact it is now officially the 3 largest search engine globally. Video keeps people on your sight longer and it is getting easier to do. Video is a superb connection tool as it hits all our senses in one go. Any pages we have that have video or images on always keep peoples attention longer. In 2010 this will only increase. As a business owner if you do not have video on your website or blog you might be looked over in preference for someone that does.

3. Reputation Management. This will be even bigger in 2010. What do we mean by this? Well if someone meets you at a networking event and then they Google you, what will they find? Hopefully what you want them to? This takes a little bit of work and yet the positive results you can obtain will be amazing. You can be your own PR agent. By the way, online press releases will get even bigger in 2010. We are a news hungry nation in the UK. Online PR is something you or a member of your team can do for you. 4. Social Media Marketing I know I used to cringe when I heard this term as well. Yet it is so big now and as a business owner you need to utilize it to your advantage. People want to connect with one another. Society and the way we do business are changing. Being on LinkedIn and Twitter can bring untold benefits. Including search engine rankings by the way. Look out for your actual Twitter tweets appearing on page one of Google anytime soon. 5. Iphones and Mobile websites The growth of the last couple of years is set to continue. Google launched their own version of the Iphone just recently so expect mobile websites to grow. Is this an area that your company can exploit? 6. Business Blogging in the UK and WordPress I am a huge fan of blogs. WordPress has grown in the UK over the past couple of years and this trend will increase especially as it forms part of the social media revolution. WordPress is easy and low cost and can enable even the most technically challenged individual to have a presence online. It allows for content creation quickly………….and a way to interact with your audience within minutes. 7. D.I.Y internet Skills The growth in technology and the financial demands that people have means more and more people are starting an online business…………..the costs are low and the skills with some application can be learnt. This trend will continue. The UK government are even helping fund businesses who want an online presence as well. So what are your thoughts on 2010?? Post your comments we would love to know To You and Your Business Success in 2010, Denise and Sharon
