--1934 Born in Liverpool, England. --1939-1949 English Schooling through Secondary Modern School for Boys until I was 15 years of age. --1949 Attended Nautical Training School for Ship's Cooks and Stewards, earned my Apprentice Certificate.Worked as Apprentice in 'COUSINS' Central Pastry Shop through Christmas & New Years Season. A GREAT learning experience. --!950 January 28th, ten days after my 16 birthday, sailed for the West African Coast as a Kitchen boy on the Elder Dempster Mailboat 'MV ACCRA' After a touch of African fever was transferred to the 'MV APAPA'. promoted to Junior Asst. Cook. --1951, June. joined the Flagship of the Canadian Pacifcc Steamships, the "EMPRESS OF SCOTLAND", as Asst. Cook. Worked through all the key stations and was promoted to Sous Chef on May 4th. 1956. In 1957 the "Scotland" was sold to the Hamburg Amerika Line and was replaced with the brand new, 'EMPRESS OF ENGLAND' to which I was transferred.
