KOEMPOELHAN STUDIEHANDLEIDING CHANGE YOUR PERSPECTIVE

WELCOME TO THE KOEMPOELHAN

“The gift of the east for humanity is to accept things. The gift of the west for humanity is to change things. That Yin and Yan, that duality we can accept totally and we can change it. That is total balance. Marianne Williamson

In a fixed mindset, people believe their basic qualities, like their intelligence or talent, are simply fixed traits. They spend their time documenting their intelligence or talent instead of developing them. They also believe that talent alone creates success without effort. They’re wrong. In a growth mindset, people believe that their most basic abilities can be developed through dedication and hard work-brains and talent are just the starting point. This view creates a love of learning and a resilience that is essential for great accomplishment. Virtually all great people have had these qualities. Carol S. Dweck, 2006 Mindset: The New Psychology of Success.

Label 1. Hate the Status Quo

Label 4. You are a Rebel

It doesn't make sense to Guido that something has been done the time-honored way with no explanation why. Guido is not someone who wants to just go through the motions or sit by idly. Nor does he like following the pack.

Guido knows that greatness resides outside the lines of conformity and doesn't think that policies, laws and regulations apply to him. He can be described as a rebel and rule breaker and he will defy gravity if he can.Â

Label 2. Easily Bored Guido finds himself easily bored, and others start viewing him as a problem. But nothing is wrong with him except that he is bored with activities that aren't up to his abilities and aren't challenging. That's why he hated most of the classes he ever attended. Think Bill Gates who dropped out of college to become one of the richest men in the world.

Label 5. Resist Authority Guido has a lifelong record of resisting authority from his parents, teachers and bosses. He doesn't go along with the agreed upon norms of the group or community he works and lives in.

Label 3. Fired from Jobs

Label 6. Ready to Improve Everything

Guido is too creative for his own good when it comes to working for others, and he may have some history of losing jobs. Being just a cog in wheel is very difficult for him because he want to create something others can be inspired by and contribute to.

Guido always sees how he can do things better. In addition, he is opinionated and freely gives his two-cents about the better way of doing things--even when he’s not asked.

4

Label 7. Bad at Making Small Talk

Label 10. Scared to Go Solo

Guido has difficulty making the kind of small talk that so many people get comfort from. This social pattern of relationship and rapport building seems like a waste of time to him and makes him uncomfortable.

The entrepreneur in Guido is scared of going out on his own—and also terrified of not doing so. This fear is so common in our society because we've been conditioned to think that entrepreneurship is much riskier than getting a "good job." The reality is there is instability in both.

Label 8. Bullied in Your Youth

Label 11. Unable to Unwind

Guido may have been heavily criticized, picked on and even bullied as a child or teenager. This has caused him to be driven to excel and to prove to the world that he is indeed a force to be reckoned with.

Guido can't go to sleep at night because he can't turn his thoughts off. An idea even manifests itself in his dreams. The next morning he finds himself still consumed with that idea, distracting him from the job he’s supposed to be doing.

Label 9. Obsessive

Label 12. Don't Fit the Norm

Guido may have been labeled obsessive/compulsive because when he gets started on something he has difficulty letting go. Don't try to convince him that this is a disease or deficiency. All of the great entrepreneurs become completely immersed in their vision.

Guido has always been a bit uncomfortable in his own skin. Until he gets used to the idea that he is in fact different from most people, it could prove to be a problem--or exactly the motivation he needs to acknowledge the entrepreneur screaming to get out.
