Tuesday February 23rd at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM Growing Honeyberry In Kentucky Honeyberries are a relatively new fruiting crop for Kentucky. These Northern honeysuckle family members are unlike their cousins...they are noninvasive, form a small bush, and produce a dark blue berry similar to blueberries in taste. All of this, and late frosts aren’t an issue. Join us to learn how to grow honeyberries and take home at least two plants as well. Register by February 10th, $20.00 supply charge, limit 40 participants. Tuesday March 8th at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM Dennis’ Favorite Summer Vegetable Varieties This isn’t necessarily a “how to grow” class but more of just an introduction to “my” personal favorites. I am doing your shopping for you! In this session I will pick a complete season of perennial plants for you to grow at home. I will include some of the standby’s and many of the new varieties that aren’t easily found in rural Kentucky. These plants will be plug and landscape plug size. Believe it or not alliums are actually in the onion family….yep the same ones we eat! Alliums can create a beautiful display spring into summer depending on variety selection. Join us for an in depth look into this fun and fascinating group of ornamental onions for your landscape. Participants will receive several varieties of bulbs to grow at home. Many of you may not know but phlox is a relatively large group of plants! For this class I will concentrate on the perennial phlox from creeping all the way to the tall or garden phlox, and even the new Proven Winners “Flame Series” This is a class you won’t want to miss! Each participant will go home with 8-10 plants, some bare root, plug size, and pint pots. Register by March 20th, $20.00 Supply Charge. Limit 40 participants.
Garden Tool Maintenance and Storage Most of us abuse our tools but with a little maintenance they can last a lifetime! Join us to learn how to keep your hand tools in tip top shape so they are ready to use come spring. You are invited to bring your favorites to work on during this hands on class. Peonies The Queens of Spring!
The Summer Garden Headliner, Hardy Hibiscus
No other perennial outlives peonies! You can find them at abandoned homesteads blooming happily for years. This is one plant that you can fully intend to leave to your grandchildren! In this session we will discuss how to get peonies off to a good start, planting, maintenance, and care of old plants you may already have. We will discuss tree, herbaceous, and intersectional hybrids. Each participant will receive one Bartzella intersectional peony perhaps the most sought after peony in the world ($60.00Value!!!) which is in the pictures, and at least one herbaceous peony. This will probably be the only time Bartzella will be available in one of my classes! If you want in on this deal you better act fast, I fully expect this class to fill up quickly. There have been great gains in the breeding and production of hardy hibiscus, we have new colors, new sizes, and a much longer blooming season. Pollinator Friendly Gardening
We will take a look at growing herbs to flavoring your favorite dishes. Learn how to grow, use, and store herbs for use in the kitchen year round. Each participant will also take home a variety of small herb plants to start your own culinary herb garden! Supply charge $10.00, limit 40, register by April 15th.
No doubt you have all heard of the plight of our most famous pollinator the honeybee. It is responsible for pollinating up to 1/3 of the foods we eat! In this session we will discuss how to protect the honeybee as well as native bee pollinators, butterflies, and moths. We will cover habitat development, plant selection, and more! By being mindful of our pollinators you will reap the bountiful benefits of their work. Free!!!! Register
Tuesday May 24th at 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM Fabulous Ferns For Indoors Or Out These ferns aren’t hardy but they are easy to grow and can make even the drabbest porch or shady area come alive. They can be used as houseplants in the winter and then taken outdoors to transform any shady area into a tropical oasis. We will discuss variety selection, cultural requirements, and general fern care. Each participant will receive plants. Register by May 1, limit 40. Free!!!

In this session we will discuss how to grow beautiful daylilies with minimal work. Perhaps no other perennial is easier to grow and more forgiving. We are lucky in Kentucky that we have three distinct gardening seasons with the last being fall…...but if you want a fall garden you have to plant in summer. In this session we will discuss cool season vegetables for fall, planting dates, cultural requirements, pest control, harvesting, and variety selection. These plants remind me of my childhood and I know of no one that doesn’t like or at the very least find them interesting. The name alone is just darn cute.
