Tuesday March 11th at 10:30 AM or Thursday March 13th at 6:30 PM Growing Root Vegetables In Kentucky Many of you have expressed disappointment with growing root crops such as beets; in this session we will explore how to grow the array of root vegetables that can be successfully grown in our Kentucky climate and their stor‐ age. We can enjoy these fresh vegetables year around with a li le planning. Register by March 10th. FREE!

Lesser Known Small Fruits: Medlar and Rose Hips You may not have heard of medlar or have eaten rose hips but these plants aren’t only ornamental but tasty too! Medlar grows 5‐6 feet tall and is an ancient fairly common fruit in Europe (it has a taste like spiced apple bu er). Also, with the right variety of easy care rose you can enjoy nutri ous “hips”. Each par cipant will receive a medlar tree and at least two fast growing large hip producing rose plants to try at home. Supply charge $25.00. Register by March 1st. Limit 40!
Tuesday March 25th at 10:30 AM or Thursday March 27th at 6:30 PM Lesser Known Small Fruits: Josta and Goji Berry Jostaberry is a cross between gooseberry and black currants and exhibits the best quali es of both. Goji berry is new to the US and is considered a super food because of its an oxidant and nutri ous proper es (even high in protein). It is commonly called life‐ berry. We will explore these easy to grow fruits and taste a few products made from them as well. Register by March 1st. Supply charge $20.00, each par cipant will receive a small plant of each to grow at home. Limit 40!

Herb Gardening for Culinary Use The best chefs use herbs in al‐ most all savory dishes and even some deserts; and the best gardeners o en make the best cooks! Join us to learn about the most common culi‐ nary herbs we can grow easily in Kentucky, their uses, cul‐ tural requirements, pu ng the “kitchen” herb garden to‐ gether, and preserving techniques. Some mes we have space for them and some mes we don’t. Here we will look into just what grows on a vine, cultural requirements, variety selec on, trellising, and how to incorporate vining vegetables into just about any garden. Register by May 1. FREE!
Tuesday May 20th at 10:30 AM and Thursday May 22nd at 6:30 PM Begonias! Have you ever wished for a beau ‐ fully exo c, yet durable specimen plant for a shady spot? Begonias can provide just that. The begonia family is one of the larg‐ est and most diverse in the plant kingdom. Here we will ex‐ plore the genus with an emphasis on large specimen types. From the giant angel wings to the wildly varied rhizomatous types, begonias are easily grown and make great indoor guests in the winter. Par cipants will take home a few plants of the most exo c (but easily grown) types we can locate. This might offer some unusual alterna ves to that shady corner of boring impa ens. How about a plant that will grow under deciduous shrubs and trees? Well….look no further the hellebores are for you and yes they will bloom in late winter and con nue for months! Cole Crops For Fall and Winter Harvest Cole crops are a nutri ous and hardy vegetable crop in Ken‐ tucky and they even give us two plan ng/harvest opportuni es, spring and fall. Cole crops include broccoli, cabbage, cauliflower, and several more that you might not have thought about or tried and they all taste be er in the fall! Join us for a look into this nutri ous vegetable group. We will include variety selec on, cultural requirements, and how to prolong the harvest into winter. Tuesday August 19th at 10:30 AM and Thursday August 21st at 6:30 PM Fall Cover And Green Manure Crops We will take a look at the importance of green manure crops and cover crops. Most people think of cover crops as just a winter crop but soil building can be done year round. You will also find out how to use cover crops to break soil hard pans, increase soil fer lity, and improve lth. Register by August 1st. Par cipants will receive cover crop seeds to try at home as well. Free! Limit 40.

Tuesday September 30th at 10:39 AM and Thurs‐ day October 2nd at 6:30 PM Alterna ve Hardy Spring Flowering Bulbs Many of us have tulips and daffodils in our spring gardens but did you know there are many other bulbs out there that can give you a great show? We will look at alterna ves to the “boring” main‐ stays and will include ways to naturalize large areas of your lawn or garden cheaply as well. This rather large family of trees and shrubs my surprise you when you find out what all they have to offer.
