Student headed to West Point program By Thom Randall @denpubs.com CHESTERTOWN Ñ North Warren High School junior Daniel Hill, who has dreamed of a career in the military since childhood, has been chosen to participate in the 2013 West Point Leaders Experience. The seminar, set for June, is held primarily for prospective candidates for
attending the U.S. Military Academy at West Point. Hill was among 500 chosen for the oneweek leadership seminar out of about 4,000 qualifying applicants nationwide. Among these top-achieving students, he was again selected to attend after the three sessions were reduced to one earlier this year due to federal budget cutbacks. Daniel is the son of Margaret Hill of Adirondack and Dan Hill of the same hamlet in the town of Horicon. Margaret
Hill is an employee of the North Warren School District, and Dan Hill serves as a patrol officer for Warren County Sheriff’s office. Daniel Hill Jr. said that he is looking forward to the leadership session, he’s hoping to attend West Point in fall 2014, and has his sights set on a military career. He said he’s imagined himself in the military since elementary school, and he has CONTINUED ON PAGE 16
By Thom Randall thom@denpubs.com CHESTERTOWN Ñ In an effort to curb the spread of aquatic invasive species into northern Warren County lakes, the town of Chester board voted Tues-

C H E S T E RTO W N Ñ T h e Chester Veterans’ Memorial plaza, an upcounty landmark reflecting local pride and patriotism, has received a substantial donation for its enhancement and completion. Thursday May 16, dozens of employees of Glens Falls’ Home Depot are to be working at the plaza Ñ located in front of the Chester Municipal Center Ñ installing walkways, shrubs and granite benches. The Home Depot Foundation has donated about $11,000 in materials, and the employees of the home-improvement chain have donated their time and talents in the effort. American Legion Post 964 Commander Joanne Ellsworth hailed Home Depot’s contribution this week. Ò This is absolutely awesome Ñ above and beyond expectations,Ó she said. Ò It is outstanding that a Glens Falls business is assisting us in our remote and rural community.Ó
