Includes spending $169,535 for railway repairs

subcommittee meeting, a contract for track repair for the county railroad was endorsed by county supervisors. Superintendent of Public Works Kevin Hajos noted that close inspection of the railroad bed — reviewing damage caused primarily by the Halloween 2019 storm — turned up more damage than previously discovered. He suggested approval of a new contract with Real Work Track Services for track and rail-bed repair amounting to $169,535 — exceeding an Oct. 31 estimate of $100,000. “We think we’ll be able to keep it under that price,” he said. Hajos also reported that the Albany area chapter of Project Healing Waters of upstate NY had requested a donation of trout yearlings to be stocked at a local waterway, so disabled veterans and military personnel could experience aspects of fly fishing through an upcoming outing. The supervisors approved both of the proposals.

QUEENSBURY | Confirmed COVID-19 cases among Warren County residents rose to 25 as of early April 6, an increase of five over the prior 42 hours, according to information compiled by the county’s Public Health Department. These new cases, monitored by the agency’s staff members, are considered relatively mild, according to county spokesman Don Lehman. He said in a prepared statement that county officials were pleased to report that a total of 19 were considered fully recovered as of mid-day Monday. County Public Health reported April 6 that 79 percent of the county’s total of 25 cases have been considered mild, 14 percent were considered moderate, and 7 percent of those residents infected remain in serious or critical condition. In addition to those who test positive, Warren County Public Health staff continues to monitor a number of “presumptive” COVID-19 cases based upon clinical interviews with people in the community who call and report symptoms. Due to the continuing scarcity of testing kits, medical providers can’t test all of these people, who are treated in the same manner that positive tested cases are handled, including all follow-ups and quarantines necessary to protect the public health, Lehman said. All Warren County residents who feel sick are urged to call Public Health at (518) 761-6580 and report symptoms, and a medical professional will provide instructions on how best to recover and protect their families at the same time. The county’s data on confirmed cases cannot account for infections that are not reported or are not apparent, Lehman said. In other developments this week, county Public Health Director Ginelle Jones announced that the county had received 100 test kits, and they were passed on to Glens Falls Hospital. Washington County also handed off their allotment of test kits to the hospital. County officials continue to urge the public to adhere to social distancing directives, and that there is a state executive order in force banning groups of people from different households gathering in public places, including at parks, trailheads and other recreational sites. Failure to abide by this executive order can result in a citation of up to $1,000. The Warren County Sheriff ’s Office and Warren County Building & Codes Office will be enforcing these orders, according to Lehman. Although county officials responded to complaints the weekend of March 28 and 29 that people in Lake George Village were not adhering to this executive order banning gatherings, county Sheriff Jim LaFarr reported April 6 that he and his officers found “good compliance” in the village last weekend.

WARRENSBURG | With power failures common in the area, Warrensburg Emergency Medical Services is now gathering contact information on people in the towns of Warrensburg and Thurman who need electricity to survive. This campaign was launched in early February when thousands of people in northern Warren County were left without because of an ice storm. Warrensburg EMS is creating a registry of people who are dependent on home dialysis devices — as well as respiratory machines including oxygen concentrators, electric nebulizers and continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP) devices, Warrenburg EMS President Corey Oullette said April 2. “To protect people’s health when a widespread natural emergency occurs, we need to know who may who may be in distress, and this registry allows us to be prepared,” he said. In the event of an emergency, such information will be shared with emergency responders, Oullette said, noting that his ambulance squad provides advanced life support for the town of Warrensburg and
