P L AT T S B U RG H | Wabte c Corporations’s Vapor Stone Rail Systems held its official grand opening and ribbon cutting to announce the completion of its new facility. The 60,000-square-foot building, on Arizona Avenue, is located at the site of the former Plattsburgh Air Force base which closed in 1995. The grand opening took place on Sept. 12 and tours of the facilitiy’s inside were given to those in attendance. P resident a nd C EO of Nor t h Countr y Chamber of Commerce Garry Douglass was there to speak and make introductions. He thanked Wabtec for the company’s help over the past 20 years providing jobs and transportation equipment. “Any community would love to have a quality employer with the jobs that [Wabtec has], doing what they do,” Douglass said. “Their role in several steps along the way here in Plattsburgh has made them a particularly special part of the economic history of Plattsburgh” Vapor Stone manufactures train and metro parts, such as doors and windows, for rail systems across the world. According to workers, they average a total of 12 doors a day with their new system and technology. During a tour of the inside, there was a demonstration of the sanding machine the company has to smooth down the doors, a task previously done by hand. It saves copious amounts of time and strain on the muscles. Another demonstration showed how each door and window is tested in recycled water. Set to a certain pressure for ten minutes at a time, a door or window is locked into the machine where it then sprays the water. This tests the durability of the glass and makes sure the rubber is sealed in tight so there are no leaks. “All fixed windows are tested at a 10 percent rate, while meanwhile all the windows that open are tested 100 percent to ensure we’re delivering a quality product to our customers,” a manufacturing engineer said. “We have one machine to do it all.” Vapor Stone employs around 200 people between both Plattsburgh sites, as opposed to the 64 when they originally began in 1998.

WARRENSBURG | Steve Farina looked out over dozens of prizewinning vehicles parked on the front lawn of Fort William Henry on Sept. 8, the final day of the 2019 Adirondack Nationals Car Show at which 1,600 vehicles were on display from Sept. 6 through Sept. 8. Known as the Favorite Fifty, these vehicles — chosen by members of Albany Rods & Kustoms club members — ranged from meticulously restored antique sedans to 1960s muscle cars — joined by a few vehicles pieced together from salvaged junkyard parts. “At the Adirondack Nationals show, we have an unsurpassed collection of rolling sculpture,” said Farina, a longtime member and former official of the car club. “It’s nothing less than automotive art.” Taste in art encompasses a wide range, and two vehicles in this group of Favorite 50 epitomized the extremes in automotive aesthetics. On the western side of the lawn, a classic 1954 Chevrolet truck was parked alone in an open space beside a towering trophy, while the other 49 awarded vehicles were lined up side by side surrounding it. This impeccable Chevy truck — recently featured on the cover of Classic Trucks magazine as the “Gold Standard” of automotive restoration and customizing — had just been honored as Adirondack Nationals’ “Senior Award,” which is granted annually to the most impressive vehicle chosen as outstanding for two consecutive years. Owned by Rob Newman of Bridgewater, N.J., the truck has won many national honors, including multiple top awards at both the Detroit Autorama show and SEMA car show in Las Vegas. It was customized to perfection years ago by Jeff Matauch, a renowned expert in automotive paint. This gleaming Chevy pickup, nationally known by the title “Liquid Gold,” displays Matauch’s expertise. About 30 yards away was another Favorite 50, exemplifying the epitome of the “rat rod” trend in custom vehicles.

Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration kicks off

Foot bridge officially named: The 2019 Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration kicked off last Wednesday, Sept. 11 at the Commemoration Bridge. The Saranac River footbridge, which connects Cumberland Avenue and Green Street was officially named in honor of those who fought in the 1814 battle in Plattsburgh, which was a turning point in the War of 1812. It also honors the volunteers who worked hard over the years to get the bridge named and, through the help of grants and donations, have the historical sign installed. Joined by Gary VanCuor and Christopher “Kit” Booth, City of Plattsburgh Mayor Colin Read officially unveiled the historic landmark sign on the bridge. The sign reads, in both English and French, “Volunteers were key to fighting British invasion in 1814. Later volunteers Christopher Booth & Gary VanCour led commemorations, including 2014’s bicentennial.” The dedication ceremony was the start of the annual Battle of Plattsburgh four-day event, which included memorials, historical lectures, music, cosplaying (costume play) and live re-enactments where battles took place.

Battle of Plattsburgh design receives praise: City of Plattsburgh Mayor Colin Read made a proclamation in honor of the top three winners of the poster design for the Battle of Plattsburgh Commemoration 2019. Beekmantown fourth-grader Elena Recor’s art was chosen to be on this year’s Battle of Plattsburgh buttons, which depicts an old sailboat on Lake Champlain. Read thanked all three kids for their hard work and they each received official seals from the mayor’s office. Photo by Sarah Elizabeth Morris

SEGUIN DENTURE CLINIC

This rusty assemblage of junkyard vehicle parts started off as a deteriorating 1940 Ford pickup body, welded to a Chevy S-10 frame, sporting salvaged parts from everything from 1950s GMC to a Nissan Versa — all fused together, welding seams left primitive. Its gigantic engine, taken from an old tow truck and updated with fuel injection and a supercharger — is so large it obscures the driver’s vision out the windshield. The vehicle’s owner/ builder, Nick Molinski of Champlain, talked about how his “daily driver” featured kitchen castoffs as well as automotive salvage. “That was my mom’s spaghetti strainer,” he said, pointing to the domeshaped screen covering the mouth of the supercharger’s air intake — a repurposed 1938 headlight cowling. “It will strain out gravel and birds, but it won’t do much else,” he said, adding that he hasn’t yet been able to locate an air filter that will fit in the old body part. While many of the custom vehicles at Adirondack Nationals cost $100,000 to $300,000 to build, Molinski said he spent only $6,000 to create a vehicle that won Adirondack Nationals’ 2019 Kenny Jensen Award — and a third of that $6,000 was likely spent on the new tires. Molinski stood beside huge rusty exhaust pipes that drooped over his front fenders, and explained how they were outfitted with oxygen sensors, despite their primitive, menacing appearance. “I’ve got the best of both worlds here — technology from today, mixed with some old-school parts — and I still get 20 miles to the gallon, and 525 horsepower delivered to the rear tires.”

Both Molinsk i’s creation and Newman’s 1954 Chevy 3100 drew plenty of spectators over the weekend at Adirondack Nationals. One of the show’s countless attendees — a man appearing to be about 70 years old — gazed at the “Liquid Gold” Chevy show-winner and with tears in his eyes, walked up to Newman and gave him a hug. Moments later, Newman said that his

truck reminds people of vehicles they have owned and loved as young adults. “People gravitate to it wherever it goes — people feel a real affinity for it,” he said. “It really inspires them.” Newman gazed over the thousands of people examining vehicles of all makes and vintages. “I’ve been at a lot of car shows, and it doesn’t get any better than this — Lake George is a magical place.” ■

looking for new members to quilt and volunteers to help out. Students from Plattsburgh often help, according to Beauharnois, with things that are too hard for the older members to do. For those who want to join the group, but don’t know much about quilting, beginning classes are available. The group holds meetings every second Wednesday of the month at Stafford Middle School in Plattsburgh at 6 p.m. Anyone can come to the meetings to become a member of CVQGNY, or sign up during the upcoming Quilt Show. “Every two years we have the quilt show and it’s out fundraiser for buying material, buying bedding, buying

threads and sewing together everything that we do,” member Vicky Johnson said. “(The show) is the opportunity for the people in the guild to show off some of their skills and what they do.” The 17th bi-yearly Celebrating Creativity Quilt Show will be hosted the weekend of Sept. 28 at the SUNY Plattsburgh Field House, located at 167 Rugar St. There, quilts will be displayed and for sale, along with other quilted items. There will be a raffle for the 2019 quilt-of-the-year, and vendors will be there to answer questions. Tickets are $8 for one day and $10 for the entire weekend. CATS to host Harvest Hike Five mile route trods scenic, historic ground By Tim Rowland STAFF WRITER

Hikers enjoy a section of the Viall’s Crossing trail. Photo by Tim Rowland

WESTPORT | When the body of freshly hanged abolitionist John was being transported from now-Charles Town, West Virginia, to his North Elba farm, not everyone on the route knew what to make of the circumstance. When the procession, which included Brown’s wife, Mary, reached Westport they had trouble finding someone willing to lend a wagon to bear the coffin to Elizabethtown. They found help at a farm that’s known as Viall’s Crossing on Route 22 northwest of the hamlet. Viall’s Crossing was protected from development in 2018 by Champlain Area Trails; the farm remains in private hands, but now includes a hiking trail through woods and fields, with views of Hurricane,

Rocky Peak Ridge and Giant mountains. The trail is one of three that will be featured in CATS’ annual Harvest Hike, which precedes the annual Harvest Festival at the Essex Fairgrounds in Westport on Saturday, Sept. 21. The hike begins at the fairgrounds at 10 a.m., and is routed along trails that include Viall’s Crossing, Hemlock Hill, and Woods and Swale, looping back to the starting point by way of Lakeshore Road and Sisco Street. This year’s Harvest Hike is a fundraiser for the Viall’s Crossing Project, which protected the 135-acre farm from development, and added two loop trails. CATS Executive Director Chris Maron said, “The funds raised from the Harvest Hike will

Bulletin Board

help pay the $47,000 loan balance for the conservation easement that saves the land and guarantees a permanent trail. Our goal is to raise a total of $27,000 by year’s end. We invite everyone to come out and support CATS in this effort — and have fun while you do.” Maron said the trails included in the five mile Harvest Hike loop are among hikers’ favorites, with diversity that ranges from deep, hemlock forests to open meadows to rocky ledges and giant oaks. The hike begins along a stretch of railroad bed that was to have run to Elizabethtown, but was never completed. The Adirondack Harvest Festival runs from noon to 6 p.m. and the Harvest Hike will wrap up about the time the festival is starting, allowing hikers to satisfy any appetite they may have worked up. The registration fee for the Harvest Hike is $10, and free for those under 17; hikers can register at champlainareatrails.com/our-events. Hikers can also register just prior to the hike, but registering online is recommended. Registration will be at a table near the entrance to the fairgrounds. ■

Honor Flight No. 30 set for this weekend

I

PLATTSBURGH | North Country Honor Flight No. 30 will head down to Washington, D.C., this Saturday, Sept. 21, with 15 more North Country veterans. “We hope everyone will join us once again to pay tribute to our nations defenders,” a press release from the North Country Honor Flight organization said. The send-off ceremony will begin promptly at 7 a.m. at the Veterans Park on the U.S. Oval. The parade will start immediately after with law enforcement and motorcycle escorts leading the way. “Please join us for a great family friendly event you’ll be glad you got up early for,” the release said. The return welcome home is scheduled for 8:30 p.m. back at Plattsburgh International Airport. Flight No. 30 will take one Korean veteran, one Cold War veteran and 13 Vietnam veterans on their trip of a lifetime. “This flight was added to the original lineup due to an ever-increasing waiting list,” the release said. “We know we are risking our faithful crowd by sending another flight but we feel it is imperative to reduce our waiting list to a reasonable time frame. We would like to thank everyone involved with North Country Honor Flight, no matter how big or small, your efforts contribute to a wonderful community program.” ■

Early detection key in fight against prostate cancer

Guest viewpoint

By Dan Alexander Ever since the day after our last presidential election, the Democrats have been resisting the current administration with every conceivable approach they can muster. Try as they have, nothing they’ve tried nor has anything the media reported derailed his administration, yet. Democrats anxious to impeach President Donald Trump scored a modest victory of sorts recently when the House Judiciary Committee voted to launch a formal investigation that resulted in the adoption of articles of impeachment for consideration by the full House. Despite being far from the 218 votes they’d need to pass the articles of impeachment, a majority of House Democrats now favor launching a formal inquiry. Still, other lawmakers, even those who support the effort, seem unsure any of the multitudes of offenses they believe Trump has committed would make the strongest case for his removal. That uncertainty over the exact target of a potential impeachment remains the major obstacle in this effort. Depending on your perspective, Democrats in the House, have failed to win over the broader public opinion despite the support of the left-leaning national media outlets. For many months, the debate over impeachment had centered on the allegations that finally came out of the two-year Mueller investigation. But Muller’s failure to pursue the president’s indictment or to specifically recommend action by Congress has prompted some impeachment supporters to argue that there are better targets for the Judiciary Committee to pursue. Last week when President Trump fired his National Security Advisor John Bolten, an appointment Democrats railed over when he was first named and continued to claim he was far too extreme. After his firing they claimed Bolten was a stable influence on the president and his firing was a sign of grave instability for the country. Proving the one thing consistent in the Democrats efforts; When you are a hammer, everything looks like a nail. Unfortunately, the Democrats haven’t found the perfect nail in the haystack to put into Trump’s presidency, yet still, they persist. As we move closer to the 2020 campaign, it would seem more fertile ground would be found putting up a formidable Democrat candidate to defeat Trump and rally the country to get behind all their candidates instead of looking back to undo the 2016 election. It’s time for the voters to decide if Trump should remain or be removed from the White House. If Trump wins re-election, the Democrats may find they’ve wasted two years of House control seeking his removal, and the American public may not look favorably upon those efforts when it comes time to pull voting levers for congressional candidates. ■

By Billy Jones GUEST COLUMNIST

While most of us would rather not even think about our risks for cancer, we must be proactive to combat this insidious disease. For men, prostate cancer is especially prevalent, affecting 1 in every 7 men during his lifetime. The prostate is only about the size of a walnut, but it is an important organ. The good news is that if the cancer is localized to the prostate, the prognosis is positive. If detected early enough, there is a nearly 100% five-year relative survival rate – but if it progresses to the advanced stage, the number drops down to 30%. While people may know little about prostate cancer, it’s important that North Country residents have the ability to recognize its symptoms, allowing for prevention and early intervention. That’s why organizations like the Prostate Cancer Foundation and the American Cancer Society promote research and spread knowledge during Prostate Cancer Awareness Month, which is

September. Prostate cancer in its early stages may cause no signs or symptoms. However, more advanced stages may lead to trouble urinating, discomfort in the pelvic area and bone pain - in addition to other symptoms. If you have any of these symptoms, you should talk to your doctor as they could be a sign of cancer or another health problem. The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that men between ages 55-69 talk to their doctor about their risk for prostate cancer and whether or not they should be screened. The task force does not recommend screening for men age 70 and older. Risks for prostate cancer include family history, race or ethnicity, and other medical conditions. Screening for prostate cancer can pose health risks and it should only be done after discussing potential benefits and harms of screening with your doctor. If your doctor recommends getting screened for prostate cancer, two options are available. One is a blood test called a prostate specific antigen (PSA) test. Men’s prostates make PSA and if your level of PSA is high, it could be an indicator of prostate cancer or another health condition such as an

enlarged prostate, a prostate infection or from taking certain medications. Alternatively, your doctor may recommend a digital rectal examination. Prevention is essential in the fight against prostate cancer. Exercising regularly, quitting smoking, and learning your family history can help lower your risk of developing prostate cancer. I fought to ensure all New York men can get prostate cancer screenings without incurring a financial burden by passing a law that requires health insurers to cover prostate cancer screenings without deductibles or co-payments (Ch. 335 of 2018). This law, similar to the breast cancer screening law enacted in 2015, will guarantee that men have access to potentially lifesaving prostate screenings at no cost to them. This month, and every month, take control of your health. Prevention and awareness can save your life. If you have any questions about this or any community issue, please reach out to me at JonesB@nyassembly.gov or by calling 518-562-1986. ■ Assemblyman Billy Jones, Assembly District 115

New feral cat law is not enough

To the Editor: The new cat law passed by the City of Plattsburgh to deal with feral cats is requires a microchip be implanted in cats so that their owner can be identified. Other local municipalities would be wise to consider a similar law. However, the City law does not go nearly far enough. It is imperative to identify the criminal cats and to track them down. There needs to be a data base obtain maintained (electronically though the chip) that lists all offenses, ranking from misdemeanors, such as wandering onto a neighbor’s property, to more serious offenses such as pooping on a neighboring property, or (god forbid) mortally injuring a chipmunk or other small rodent. The most egregious of all of course is attacking a songbird. To ensure that the criminal cat can be apprehended and appropriately dealt with, a cat court must be established. The cat should be entitled to a fair hearing for all offenses on its “rap sheet”, and the owner may plead in its defense. But all this is still not enough. All cat owners must have synchronized chips implanted in their heads in order to monitor their cats should they somehow escape or stray beyond their property limits. It would also help the authorities track down rogue cat owners. ■ — Dick Lamb, Chazy

Abortion is a tortuous cruelty

To the Editor: After reading “Horse racing is cruelty” and “Drop animals from menus” in the Sun (8/31/19), I wondered if the compassion for animals as sentient beings could translate to the same passion against human cruelty to a mother and her unborn child. I hope so. After all, unrestricted abortion is a tortuous cruelty to a sentient human life as well as a deadly form of child abuse. — Clementina Maltbie, Chestertown ■

Granny Goose

By Jan Gosselin STAFF WRITER

I was recently reminiscing about the various agencies I have had the pleasure of volunteering for since my retirement, including JCEO, CVPH, Literacy Volunteers and various other locations. My assignment with Literacy Volunteers involved assisting students from other countries in learning English as a second language. Invariably, nearly every student would comment about the difficulty that accompanies this endeavor. Most complained about too many instances of words

that sound exactly the same having completely different meanings. Much confusion typically ensued. For those who may be far displaced from their grade school days, these words are known as homonyms. I have composed the following story to explore the use/misuse of these tricky, little homonyms. (Please be sure to read the following out loud or my hard work will be lost!) Once upon a thyme, their were too bares who built there cabin in the woods, living write next two some mountain peeks. The fodder bare was the liter of all of the animals who roamed threw the forest. He would waive whenever he would meat won of them walking threw the trees. Sometimes after the reign wood pore down, won could knot sea the son shining because it would be sew foggy. The mother

bare seldom left there cabin on those dais, sew she did not mined the rain and tended to lye in bed and eat bred and serial. When the son was shining, the too bares wood often chute there darts using a bored as a target. Moor and moor wile life wood gather around there cabin, peaking two sea the to of them dewing awl kinds of crazy things. Won never new watt this pear of bares mite try to do next. The End. Past and present Literacy Volunteer students working diligently on their English proficiency, I must concur. There is a strong possibility that the English language might just be a bit difficult to learn for those not born into the language. I would assume even for those born here, the first few grades of school provide the same confusion with English proficiency. I can definitely empathize, having spent much

time and money attempting to learn French - a semester at Clinton Community College, private instruction with a local Parisian woman as well as multiple CDs and DVDs. After many years and dollars, I can say, with confidence, “oui”, “merci” and “non parlais francais”). (Footnote: For anyone who red my SUN column last month, eye wood like you to no that I am still only able to wok with won foot, still maintaining non-wait-baring on my broken leg.) ■ — Jan Gosselin retired from NYSDOCS after 25 years of service. or permitting systems that would limit use. The report is critical of the DEC for being overly accepting of tree cutting on the forest preserve, and failing to do all it could to discourage motors from encroaching on protected lands. It also criticizes the DEC for bullying the Adirondack Park Agency, which it sees as losing influence due to vacant seats on the board, a leadership void and a growing tendency to rubberstamp the proposals of the bigger and better-funded DEC. “The APA’s 56 staff members are supposed to act as a check on the DEC’s authority to manage the Forest Preserve,” the report states. “Rather than respect the APA’s independence, the DEC leaned on the agency to approve Unit Management Plans (UMPs) that undermine state policies requiring natural resource protection to take precedence over intensive use.” ■

Adirondack Council says the mountains have their ups and downs By Tim Rowland STAFF WRITER

ELIZABETHTOWN | Hiking a trail or paddling a pond on a weekday in September, everything Adirondack seems well and good, joyful even, just as it has for generations of outdoor enthusiasts. But in its annual State of the Park publication, the Adirondack Council, an Elizabethtown environmental advocacy group, warns that the underpinnings of the park are coming loose, risking permanent damage if the problems are not addressed. “The Park looks like a success,” wrote Willie Janeway, the council’s executive director. “The maps show lands as protected. Government says it supports protecting clean water, air and wildlands. Everyone says they support the Park. The science shows otherwise. The Adirondack Park is so popular that overuse is harming wilderness and communities.” The report states that overuse and under-planning continue to plague popular Keene Valley trailheads. The state seems fi xated on throwing money at community development, while the park and park personnel go begging. Leaders are insisting on a motorized trail through the heart of the forest, ATVs continue to shred sensitive ecology, the Adirondack Park Agency is in flux, salt and sewage are threatening the water, and without mandatory boat washing, invasive species remain a constant threat.

Church

The report indicates that there has been good news over the past year as well. Gov. Andrew Cuomo and the Department of Environmental Conservation have acknowledged overuse as a serious threat, and are incrementally moving in the right direction. The report notes parking restrictions designed to cut down on the number of hikers to the most popular peaks, but says it was done in a vacuum without consideration of the role the rest of the park is to play as crowds and destinations shift. The governor and legislature also win accolades for their big-picture approach to the environment, with expansive climate-change law and an upcoming ban on plastic bags. And if it was stingy on park spending, the state was generous to Adirondack communities, where it sent more than $400 million in aid, the report says. Other victories in the park were won by groups such as the Adirondack Land Trust, which protected 600 acres in the Fourpeaks area in Jay and Wilmington, adjoining the popular Hardy Road mountain biking trail network; the Northeast Wilderness Trust, which saved the 2,400-acre Eagle Mountain tract between the Taylor Pond and Jay Mountain forests; the Ausable River Association for demolition of the Rome Dam in AuSable Forks; and the Protect the Adirondacks environmental group, which released a comprehensive study debunking the myth that the Forest Preserve is an economic burden. Other landmarks were also achieved, including the opening of Boreas Ponds and the state’s acceptance of overuse as a problem in need of best-management practices as enumerated by the council: comprehensive planning; education and outreach; improved parking, information centers, and bathroom; improved trails and campsites; limits on use, at some times, at some places; and increases in staff and funding. But while the state may have acknowledged the problem, the report indicates it has done little to help. The DEC is understaffed at all levels, and has not to date acted on reservation

Plattsburgh to host the state this weekend at cross country invitational

By Keith Lobdell SPORTS EDITOR

PLATTSBURGH | Over 800 high school cross country runners from throughout New York State will be coming to Plattsburgh this weekend to get a look at the course where the 2019 state championships will be determined in November. As of noon Sept. 15, 465 boys and 375 girls had been registered to run from 56 schools had registered to take place in the Section VII Invitational at Plattsburgh State University Saturday, Sept. 21. With registration still open, there could be over 1,000 runners come race day. “We will probably end up with more schools and runners for this weekend then we will for the state meet,” said Section VII cross country coordinator Brian Kiely. “Some schools are bringing their teams, while others are only bringing one team or a couple of runners who they feel will make states so they can get a look at the course.” The 5K (3.1 mile) course runs throughout the Plattsburgh State Field House property, going around the softball and baseball fields, into the neighboring forests and back to the finish line near the old track and football field.

DRY RUN

win second straight over SENTINELS 3 EAGLES Connor Mcg innis ran for 160 yards and a pair of touchdowns as Beekmantown went to 2-0 in the early CVAC football season with a 42-12 win over Ticonderoga Sept. 14. Kaden Myers added 46 rushing yards, with Nate Finley throwing for 121 yards and three touchdown passes.

Kiely said this weekend will serve as a test run for the state meet. “We have been on conference calls with the section, the field house and local authorities,” said Kiely. “We will have a traffic pattern in place and will get the chance to see how our plans will work.” Kiely said they will also rely on their experiences from 10 years ago, the other time the state cross country meet was held in Plattsburgh.

A field of near 1,000 runners is expected at Saturday’s Section VII cross country invitational meet at the Plattsburgh State Field House, as teams from across the state are coming to get a first look at the course which will host the 2019 NYSPHSAA championships in November. File photo The meet was held at Mt. Van Hoevenburg in 1988 and 1998. The Sept, 21 meet will feature eight total races, starting with the JV girls race at 9 a.m. and the JV boys race at 9:35 a.m. There will then be three varsity girls races starting a 10:10 a.m., with races starting every 35 minutes before the three varsity boys races begin at 11:55 a.m. “These races will not be separated into large schools and small schools, because we want to accommodate schools who want to leave earlier to get home or other needs,” said Kiely.

LOCAL FAVORITES

As of Sept. 15, eight of the 11 Section VII teams had registered for the event (PHS, NCCS and Ticonderoga had not), including the fift h ranked Class C girls team, Saranac, and the top-ranked and

defending Class C boys champions, Saranac Lake. In the first state rankings for the season, Lake Placid is ranked seventh in boys and eighth in girls, while Seton Catholic is ranked ninth in girls. “It has been my experience that the host section will always have some solid performances when they host,” said Kiely. “It is great that we have some good teams and runners who will be looking to do well at states here.” The top ranked teams in Class D, Beaver River (boys) and Tully (girls) will be in attendance, as will Class C boys third ranked Newfane and the second ranked Class B girls team Saratoga.
