Youth Climate Coalition put together the Plattsburgh climate strike last Friday, Sept. 20. Along with Plattsburgh, upstate New York students in Queensbury, Potsdam, Saranac Lake, Johnstown, Burlington, Middlebury, Albany and Utica had their own climate strikes as well. “We are currently experiencing a threat to the Adirondack Park, our national security, and the world’s human security,” the Adirondack Almanak said. “It’s our responsibility to do something about it now.”

The Plattsburgh climate march began at 10:20 a.m. Trinity Park downtown, where they marched to the SUNY Plattsburgh campus. The actual strike began at 11 a.m. Gathering at Amity Plaza on Rugar Street, the large group stood together with signs on climate change. People were invited to come up and voice their concerns on climate change and what society can do to prevent irreversible damage. See CLIMATE STRIKE » pg. 4

PLATTSBURGH | Dozens of people, some dressed as pop culture’s most beloved characters, queued up outside the Crete Memorial Civic Center waiting for the doors to open to explore the memorabilia, eclectic merchandise, games and panels awaiting them inside. The third-annual Plattsburgh Comic

Con took place Sept. 21 and 22 attracting fans of science fiction, anime, comics, TV, film and video games to the largest version of the event yet. Although some people believe that being a fan of comics is a requirement, Event Owner and Organizer Samuel Chase said the familyfriendly event is based in pop culture and encompasses many different types of entertainment. “Some people hear ‘Comic Con’ and they think it’s just comic books but that’s pretty untrue,” Chase said. “We have so many things like handmade crafts, toys, collectibles, original artwork... We just bring this all together and create a community event. It’s almost like going to a fair.” See COMIC CON » pg. 2

Truck donated to Chazy Highway Department Old 1955 on display for commuters By Sarah Elizabeth Morris STAFF WRITER

CHAZY | Outside the Chazy Highway Department, just off Exit 41, sits a 1955 International R-170 truck, recently refurbished and repainted. Elwood Jennette, once the one who drove the truck along town roads, purchased the yellow vehicle in 1964, when he was 18 years old. Now retired and in his 70s, Jennette donated the truck to the Town of Chazy for display. “They worked on it during the

winter - a paint job, things like that,” Jennette said. “But it was really in mechanically good shape.” The truck was refurbished and painted to include a “55” on the side to commemorate the year the truck was made - 1955. Also on the side says the year the Town of Chazy highway department was established. A new plow was attached to the truck, made to look the same as they did back then. “We had this old plow up in the dump … this is about the size plows they used on these lower trucks back then,” Highway Department Superintendent Dan Nephew said.
