PLATTSBURGH — It was a storybook romance. Doris Mary Richards gazed across the dance floor at Wilfred Gonyea. “I’m going to marry that boy,” Richards said. She did. The couple got hitched at St. Joseph’s Church in Mooers in July 1945. The American dream followed.

Wilfred took on a number of blue collar jobs to support his growing family — mechanic, tractor-trailer driver, mine worker. The Redford native also joined a number of civic organizations, including the Knights of Columbus, the Trail Blazers Snowmobile Club and the Peru Rod and Gun Club. Doris found joy in homemaking and raising their six children. Both were devout Catholics and deeply respected in the community. And like other sensible Americans, the couple made funeral arrangements long before they eventually passed away. Whispering Maples Memorial Gardens seemed like a good bet. The nonprofit, which was incorporated in 1980, had been advertising crypt space in a pair of new mausoleums in Platts-

The 4-year-old’s mother, Molly Ryan, graciously accepted his invitation to the Teah first annual mother-son dance last year. The mothers were the catalyst, Ryan said. About 100 mothers and sons attended last year’s event. Ryan hopes to see more this year. Besides dancing, dinner will be served, specifically ziti with

One lucky young man will be escorted to the dance by firetruck if he buys a ticket on or before May 6 and wins the drawing. This year’s proceeds will go into the Champlain-Rouses Point Rotary’s general fund to support youth programs, such as their literacy program, which supports kids within the districts of Northeastern Clinton Central School and Chazy >>See Mother-son Dance | pg. 13

MOOERS — The town hosted an informational meeting April 27 to inform the public on the current status of the water and sewer project. Currently, a study, which began last summer, is being conducted through Bernier, Carr and Associates to see what’s feasible for the town in terms of a main water and sewer system. The company plans on evaluating and documenting water and sewer issues in Mooers, such as failing septic systems and contaminated wells. The study focuses primarily properties within the old village boundaries, where the buildings are closer together. CONCERNS WITH COST Once in-field investigations are completed, the firm will list the costs of the water and sewer systems in the report. >> See Feasibility Study | pg. 13
