CHAMPLAIN — It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas in the village. Champlain officials plan to drum up holiday spirit during the 6th annual Christmas in the Village on Saturday. The festivities will begin early that afternoon at the Champlain Meeting House with Champlain Kids Connected. Children will be able to make ornaments, decorate cookies and listen to Christmas stories. Afterwards, young ones can ven-
ture to the Champlain Playground for the Candy Cane Hunt. A tree lighting will follow later that evening. Santa will be there, along with plenty of opportunities for Christmas caroling. Mayor Greg Martin said there will be plenty of Dunkin’ Donuts hot chocolate to go around. “We started this event in order to bring people down into the center of the village to celebrate the holiday season together,” he said. “We’ve expanded it since the beginning and it’s been very successful.” Martin said each year, the day-long event brings in more and more residents and visitors into the village. Village officials started two contests – wreath and home decorating – to make the community look more festive during the holiday season. >> See CHRISTMAS | pg. 2

CHAZY — Students Chazy Central
Rural School have cracked the case of the auditorium murderers. The culprits will be revealed during the CCRS Drama Club’s production of “The Crooked House Murder” next weekend. The play takes place in the Crooked House Hotel where two guests were mysteriously done in by an unknown source.
During the hour-long production, the students solve the mystery through comedic relief and embellishing the stereotypes of that genre. Last Wednesday afternoon, the cast scurried to set up for rehearsals. The act began with Officer Mulligan, played by Lindsey “Max” Barnaby, and >> See CHAZY | pg. 2
PLATTSBURGH — ROTA Studio and Gallery, the city’s only all-ages, substance-free live music venue, is closing next week. “Without a sustainable source of funds to pay bills every month, we cannot thrive and give back to the community any longer,” wrote Shannon Stott-Rigsbee, Secretary of ROTA, on the venue’s official Facebook page. The venue’s last day is Dec. 11. The do-it-yourself space has long struggled to stay financially afloat. At present, the non-profit will owe over $5,000 in back rent and electric bills. “Our landlord is asking us to leave in order to have another business come in that can pay rent each month,” said Stott-Rigsbee. “I wouldn’t call it being evicted even though I guess it technically is, but even if we continued in this space or had a smaller space, we still wouldn’t be able to pay rent.” Rent had been $1,200 per month, but was reduced to $1,000 earlier this year. The building’s landlord said she is empathic to the organization, who have occupied the Bridge Street space since July of 2014. “We totally appreciate the groups that perform there and the opportunity they provide for musicians and artists for >> See ROTA | pg. 4
