Five golden retrievers By Bill Quinlivan

NORTH CREEK — It may not have been the fifth day of Christmas, but residents at the Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center were all recipients of “Five Golden Rings.” “Five Golden Rings,” are a group of five golden retrievers owned by Pam Pooler of Speculator and Debby Starling of Indian Lake. Throughout the year, each of the retrievers visit the Tri-County Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in North Creek, but the holidays called for some special celebrating.
On Dec. 20, all five golden retrievers made a special group appearance. Kade, Piper, Bolo, Augie and baby Fergus treated the Tri-County residents and staff to a lively and festive visit. All five goldens showed up wearing “ugly” Christmas sweaters to delight those in attendance and to show that they knew a bit of something about what it means to be fashionable. In addition, Santa and Mrs. Claus made an appearance with one of their reindeer wearing a Christmas wreath. It was all merriment, dog biscuits, pets and smiles for all who were graced by the visit. Organizers also took time to thank handlers Alice King, Jessica Sears and Robin Jay.

INDIAN LAKE — A recent report from Comptroller Thomas DiNapoli estimated two million people hunt and fish annually in the state, ranking them third in the nation. Those people spend an average of $5 billion, earning the state second place in revenues. More interesting to local folks may be the discovery made during the collection of data concerning Hamilton County. Though it’s the least populated county in the state, “the total number of licenses sold in Hamilton County was equal to over 84 percent of its population,” said DiNapoli in his report. “More than a third of all licenses issued in the county were to out-of-state residents.” >> Story Continued | pg. 2
